On Friday, January 12th 2007, London Military Air Traffic
Control contacted a flight of US Air Force F-15s out of RAF
Lakenheath, Suffolk, UK, to intercept an unknown target they had
picked up on radar at 3000 to 4000ft altitude.
The F-15s callsign Gator, went to investigate, and got a solid radar-lock on the unidentified target. They made two passes, passed the object which was at 17,000ft on the first pass, and then 17,700ft on the second pass. They described it as black in colour, and stated that it was not a bird, and unlike any aircraft they had ever seen. One pilot was heard to say to another: "Did you see that." and the other replied: "Yes, but I don't want to talk about it." An audio file is being analysed by UFO Monitors East Kent, and UFO Data Magazine, from the air to air comunications by the crew of the F-15s. And UFO Data Magazine hope to have a copy of the file on their website for researchers and other interested parties to listen to. UFO Monitors East Kent, here in Kent, England, along with UFO Data Magazine are making enquiries into the incident, and are hoping to make representations under the US and UK Freedom of Information. If anyone feels that they can help out in anyway, please do get in contact with myself at ufomek@hotmail.co.uk This looks like an intriguing case, especially as the incident was recorded by radio monitors here in the UK. James Carrion, MUFON International Director to B J BoothUpdate on the 1953 Kinross UFO Event The recent claim by the “Great Lakes Dive Company” (GLDC) to have found the U.S. Air Force F89C Scorpion Jet that disappeared in 1953 over Lake Superior while in pursuit of a UFO, created quite a stir of excitement in the UFO community, as reported last month in the Journal. Unfortunately, based on an in-depth investigation conducted by MUFON investigators, Great Lakes Dive’s claims cannot be substantiated. MUFON’s investigation began with attempting to answer the basic questions – Is GLDC a valid company? Who are the principals of the company? What is their corporate history? Since GLDC claimed to be a Michigan-based corporation, our inquiry began with a telephone call to the Michigan Division of Corporations which did not have any record of a company incorporated under or operating under the name “Great Lakes Dive Company.” When GLDC spokesperson Adam Jimenez was questioned about this, he said in an email sent on September 19, 2006: “GLDC is in the process of switching from an incorporated company to an LLC organization. We began as just a group of divers who would get together with our sonar equipment and sweep locations in the great lakes. As it became apparent that we would need to develop a business entity to interact with museums, obtain grants etc, we formed a company early on. Once the group downsized and became more focused with regards to who was involved, the main group members decided to form GLDC LLC, to better manage the direction of the company. This entity is still pending, and not yet available to public records.” However, in an earlier email sent on September 6, 2006 to MUFON investigator David Watson, Mr. Jimenez contradicted his later statement by saying: “Incidentally our company name is Great Lakes Dive Company (not Inc.) we are technically an LLC. (just for accuracy sake). We are in the process of putting together a "formal" office, and will give you the mailing address when available.” Mr. Jimenez also refused to reveal who the principals of the company were, the company’s operating structure, or the types of marine vessels used in their search, citing recent security threats made against them. When asked about the nature of these threats, Mr. Jimenez stated: “Threats were made regarding the salvage of the object, essentially ‘tell us where it's at or else...’ The individuals represented themselves as producers for the Discovery Channel. We made a few calls, found out the group was fraudulent and told them we no longer were interested in any future dealings with them...that's when the threats started. As a security precaution we changed all phone numbers associated with GLDC and have not included any company or personal information (like background info on the team) on any interviews. Until this situation (returning to the object) is resolved we will not be providing any further information on the project or the team.” MUFON later discovered that Mr. Jimenez had provided a cell phone number to various film makers and researchers, but switched to a new cell phone number soon after the threats were made. When MUFON tried to trace either phone number through Intelius.com, both phone numbers proved to be untraceable. Since trying to confirm GLDC’s corporate identity led to a dead end, MUFON then attempted to corroborate some of the other claims made by GLDC. Mr. Jimenez claimed that GLDC was founded in 2001 for the purpose of shipwreck exploration and discovery and with the goal of solving the enduring mysteries of lost vessels in Lake Superior. In addition to the F89 find, GLDC claimed that they were searching for the French minesweepers Cerisoles and Inkermann, and that they were interested in filming in high definition the wreck of the Gunilda. Mr. Jimenez was quoted in an August 29, 2006 article in the American Chronicle: "2006 began as an ambitious project season for us, we were looking forward to further work at the F-89 site", said Jimenez. He added, "Then we received some bad news. The Canadian government refused to allow us to use our ROV at the wreck site without first providing them the GPS coordinates of the site and allow either a Coast Guard escort or government official to accompany the expedition. We were stuck, we don't want to give up the site (especially because of the object, and it's potentially huge significance) but we need to stay on the good side of the Canadians due to our Gunilda project which involves a lot of other contributors." MUFON contacted the Ontario Ministry of Culture and spoke with Mr. Michael Johnson, manager of the ministry's Heritage Operations Unit, whose office issues work permits for survey or exploration work in Lake Superior. Mr. Johnson told MUFON that no one had requested a permit for exploring or surveying the F89 jet or “mystery object,” nor had his office received any related correspondence. Mr. Johnson further revealed that the Ministry would not require a coast guard vessel or government official to accompany any expedition, but would allow the licensee to work under their own cognizance, and that the wreck’s GPS coordinates did not have to be provided up front as long as they were included in a final survey report. On Coast to Coast with George Noory, Linda Moulton Howe played an interview she recorded with Adam Jimenez where he stated that Canada automatically claims ownership of any wrecks in Canadian territorial waters. However, Mr. Putt from the office of the Ontario Receiver of Wrecks told MUFON that the original owner of the wreck (ship, plane, etc.) maintains ownership and would have to grant salvage permission--the F89 would therefore still be considered U.S. Air Force property. Mr. Putt elaborated by stating that if a wreck’s owner is not known, which would possibly be the case for the “mystery object,” then the Ontario Provincial Government would become the custodian for a year, and if the original owner could not be found, then the Ontario Receiver of Wrecks could sell it to the salvor or to the public. In the same Coast to Coast interview, Linda Moulton Howe stated that Adam Jimenez graduated in 1990 from Kettering Technical School (run by General Motors) with a degree in Computer Engineering. MUFON contacted the registrar’s office at Kettering University (which had changed its name in 1998) and Becky Ibbotson, registrar assistant, related that no one by the name of Adam Jimenez had ever attended Kettering. Giving GLDC the benefit of the doubt, MUFON posted messages to the public message boards on Scubaboard.com asking if anyone from the Ontario dive community knew GLDC or of any of the exploration work they had performed prior to 2006. After hundreds of viewings, no one could provide any information to shed light on GLDC’s claims. MUFON also contacted Tom Farnquist, CEO of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, whose organization has been actively searching for the Cerisoles and Inkermann. Mr. Farnquist heard of GLDC’s F89 claims from a local newspaper article, but had not heard of any of their other exploration work. The Soo Evening News wrote an article on GLDC’s claims, and mistakenly attributed the F89 find to the Great Lakes Diving Company of Rockford, Michigan. MUFON verified with the Rockford company owner that his company has no connection with GLDC. MUFON sent copies of GLDC’s F89 side scan sonar images to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and a Woods Hole scientist, who wishes to remain anonymous, offered his professional opinion that they do not appear to be side scan sonar images but photographs that were altered with computer software to look like side scan sonar images. MUFON also contacted a professor at Michigan Tech University, who also wishes to remain anonymous, who stated that although the GLDC images looked to him like genuine side scan sonar images, they could have been fabricated by a dedicated person. When Mr. Jimenez was asked whether a ROV was deployed and how GLDC was able to confirm that the mystery object was not radioactive, he responded via email with: “We did lower the ROV on the initial discovery (because we knew the risk existed that we may not be able to return to the site). We haven't been able to use the ROV on the site since (or return to the site at all for that matter) this season...we had hoped to use the ROV to further explore the site in 2006. Weather issues in 2005 prevented us from thoroughly exploring the wreck(s). The confusion is that the accounts are talking about two different dive seasons. We used a DX-1 hand held Geiger counter that was placed into a sealed chamber within the ROV and the speaker output was patched into the audio input of the digital camera on the ROV. We had to get the ROV close to the object to make sure the reading was accurate...however the efficiency rating of the DX-1 is not 100%, but we were satisfied that it was not radiation causing our electronic problems. We made the metallic determination based on visual evidence from the ROV.” Mr. Jimenez’s statement alludes to GLDC illegally operating their ROV in Canadian waters without a properly issued license and contradicts his previous assertion that “we need to stay on the good side of the Canadians due to our Gunilda project”. It is not clear as to how the Geiger counter was “patched” to the audio-input on the ROV’s camera, as DX-1 Geiger counters do not have an audio-out jack, but only an internal speaker. In a recent Journal of UFO History article on GLDC’s claims, editor Dick Hall writes that: “In answer to questions from editor, Adam Jimenez of Great Lakes Dive Company said that they had not yet found any positive identification such as a serial number” (on the F89). However, in a September 11, 2006 email to MUFON International Director James Carrion, Mr. Jimenez contradicted this statement to Dick Hall by saying: “The ROV confirmed that the canopy is intact, but we were unable to see inside due to silt and the translucent nature of the canopy. One would assume the crew is still inside. Yes the aircraft tail number is visible on the F-89c...this is how we were able to confirm that we had found the actual F-89 and not some other aircraft.” MUFON then investigated how and when GLDC’s claims were first made public. The earliest known account MUFON could find was an Aug. 22, 2006, posting to the UFO Updates mailing list where a certain “Preston Miller” forwarded to Francis Ridge what appeared to be a Port Huron, MI, Associated Press (AP) news article on GLDC’s claims. Francis told MUFON that he does not know who Preston Miller is. Checking with the Port Huron Times Herald, an authorized AP news source in Port Huron, managing editor Judith McClean told MUFON that her newspaper did not originate the article. MUFON also contacted the Associated Press Michigan Bureau in Detroit and spoke with Joe Altman. Mr. Altman looked at the UFO Update article online and said that it was not written in the characteristic style of an AP press report, as it lacked any date references. Mr. Altman also searched all AP news feeds and could not find any information that would indicate AP was the source for the article. On September 26, GLDC’s web site content at www.greatlakesdive.com was removed and is no longer available. A week later, the GLDC message board that was hosted by excoboard.com was also unavailable. Performing an Internet Whois query of the greatlakesdive.com Internet domain name revealed that the domain name registrar is Melbourne IT Ltd, a company based in Australia. Thinking that GLDC’s claims may be related to the recent Australian UFO wave videos that were revealed to be a hoax, MUFON contacted the UFO wave perpetrator, Chris Kentworthy, who denied any involvement or knowledge of GLDC. Searching the Internet revealed various security bulletins warning that some fraudulent web sites use this same Melbourne IT Ltd registrar and the related myprivateregistration.com service. Mr. Jimenez is currently not responding to emails or phone calls. In summary, MUFON after many hours of investigation by a number of our dedicated field investigators has not been able to substantiate any of GLDC’s claims. Until GLDC personnel resurface with more information and definitive proof of the F89 discovery, their claims remain doubtful at this time. MUFON will continue its investigation and update our readers as further developments unfold. James P Carrion in response to B J Booth, webmaster, www.ufocasebook.com MUFON International Director

It was a beautiful summer night, and Michael Lee Hill went to the water, as he often does, carrying a camcorder and a quest: Record the UFOs. The aliens send messages to the Eastlake resident, sometimes through weird coincidences or just by urges he feels. Yeah, yeah, he knows it sounds crazy. But he gets a "feeling" about where the UFOs will be, and he shows up with his recorder and there they are. "I'm positive that they know I'm filming them," he said. So one evening last August, he and his friend Chris Miheli stood at the Lake Erie shore at Willowick Lakefront Park as night fell, in a spot not far from a famous 1988 sighting chronicled in a Coast Guard report. And there they waited until, in the black sky, two objects appeared, pulsing brilliant, multicolor lights. One hovered above the other, then zipped away. Hill switched his camcorder to night mode to prove that these were not ships' lights -- the objects appeared to be airborne over the water. For Hill, the video was further evidence that aliens visit Earth. He thought his fellow believers would see it and welcome it as a weapon in their struggle for credibility. California filmmaker David Sereda certainly did. Sereda already had used some of Hill's clips in his film "Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs," in which the comic actor described his views on the existence of UFOs and the possibility of another dimension. Now, Sereda had video of another sighting that would fit nicely in his new film, "From Here to Andromeda," due out on video April 15. Hill, a gifted guitarist, got work as the co-producer of the film, allowing him to quit his job selling guitars at Sam Ash. Sereda recently appeared on Fox News Channel's "Heartland" show to talk about his upcoming film. He brought with him the Lake Erie UFO clip, which Hill then posted in its entirety on YouTube (view it at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njo7TWFoZqs). And that's when Hill learned that, when it comes to skeptics, no one is tougher than the true believers. "Good try stoners, but yer [sic] 'Whoa, man!' every five seconds gave you away," writes one visitor to the message board the UFO News Web site (ufonews.tv). "While UFOs may very well exist, it doesn't help to get all amped up over obvious frauds," writes another. "I'm impressed that an alien would equip his craft with red and green navigation lights, just like our boats and planes here on earth. Very considerate of them. Oh wait, maybe they didn't do it on purpose and it's a coincidence they just happen to use the same red = port, green = starboard that we use. What are the odds? Dude?" wrote a man identifying himself as a pilot. It didn't help that on the video, Hill and Miheli sound like they were filming, "Dude, Where's My UFO?" "Dude, it's beautiful . . . I'm filming it, dude," says Hill, 38, the crashing Lake Erie waves providing a backdrop as he works the camera. "Dude, we just saw something amazing," says Miheli. Another doubter posted his own video on YouTube showing similar-looking lights that turned out to be a plane, which passed overhead. Skeptics variously claimed Hill's video was of planes or ships. Those unfamiliar with that area of Lake Erie claimed the lights were those of police cars on a distant hill or bridge. "How can you watch this video and not see that you have been fooled?" wrote one skeptic. "Michael Lee Hill or Pinocchio," wrote another. Hill, who has not filmed much lately because of cold weather and his work producing the "Andromeda" movie soundtrack, takes it in stride. "I don't really care," he said. "I know what I seen. I've learned to separate myself from other people's energy. It doesn't really affect me." He has defended himself online, posting the opinions of those who believe him, such as the proprietors of the UFO News site and Sereda. "Cars don't float in the air and landing aircraft eventually 'land.' These UFOs never leave the immediate scene," reads the UFO News post. "Let's stop hating each other and start trying to find out what the heck is going on in our skies!" Said Sereda: "What amazes me about this footage is that there is no noise from jet aircraft, helicopters, etc., and a UFO comes so closely by to hover right on top of the other UFO and then flies back out the way it came in. No airplane could do this. Also, when the video camera switches to night-shot mode, we can see the UFOs are not boats on the lake. They are hovering a good 50 to 100 feet above the water." The video has people talking, which is a good thing. The fact that some of that talk is attacking Hill makes no difference. "You know . . . whatever," he said. "Sooner or later, everyone is going to see them with their own two eyes, and it won't matter if they believe me or not." Hill knows this: Aliens are out there. They have visited. They mean good. They may even want to help us save our planet. He has video of multicolor single orbs; what appear to be flamelike flickers on Lake Erie; and a purplish blob hovering in the night sky. "I think the universe is teeming with life," he said. He can't explain the night he believes he was drugged and possibly examined by aliens. It's all a blur. He woke up in his bathroom with his jaw broken in three places. "We are on the verge of becoming a galactic society that is on the verge of joining the cosmic community," he said. "When first contact happens, it won't be a question. It will be apparent that they are here. I've got a new phrase I've been telling people, 'Just look up!'"

RE: UFOs on the Moon
I've read your articule about UFO bases on the Moon and the Nasa Moon program. It is striking similar to the info that I was told in 1997. The only thing that wasn't mentioned was during the Moon landing in 1969, Nasa received a television signal from what I was told about 20 seconds in length. It was a blackened image with some alien language apparently of an alien. When Nasa translated the audio they said it was a warning for them to stay off of the Moon and not to attempt space travel. Also most of that info I was told came from Werner Von Braun's son. He may be a person I believe you may want to interview sometime. He spoke very freely about Nasa and UFOs, and he seemed to have been passed along a lot of info from his father as well. Though he may be under some government secrecy agreement or he may still be working for the government. Thanks MattR

RE: UFOs on the Moon
Just thought that I would share this with you and your readers:
I was in the Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Vietnam ('67 - '68).
The first night that I spent in the bush (jungle), I was astounded when I
looked up into the heavens. There were stars everywhere. Every inch of the
sky was populated with stars. I never knew that so many of them existed.
Having been born and raised in the inner city, I had never seen the night
sky in total darkness. No lights, no smog or pollution; just darkness. It
was breathtaking.
The first time I saw a full moon, it blew me away. The moon took up half the
sky. It seemed that all one had to do was reach up and touch it. You could
clearly see every crater, line and marking on the moon; especially on a
clear night. Because Vietnam is located south of the equator and because of
the Earth's tilt on its axis, one got a closer view of the heavens.
The light from the moon was so bright you could read a book or write a
letter; and many of us did. In a letter home I wrote, "Mom you won't believe
this but I am writing this letter by the light of the full moon." But the
main thing we did during the full moon was watching all the vehicular
traffic taking place on the moon.
We watched as solid, bright/white spheres of light continuously flew in and
out of the craters. These objects were so bright; Stevie Wonder would have
seen them. An object would appear outside of a crater. It would stop for a
second or two and descend into the crater. Others would ascend out of a
crater, stop for a second or two and then zoom off into the blackness of
space. This went on all night long.
Being grunts (infantrymen), we were well trained and proficient at observing
our surrounding, events and occurrences because many times our lives
depended on this ability. We knew what we were watching. That is why we were
so taken by it all and talked about it amongst ourselves. We knew we were
watching Unidentified Flying Objects.
Indeed, the Moon is more than it appears to be.

February 27, 2007 A photo taken by Ana Wolfenson and David Magram (Webcam Uritorco) on February 11, 2007. According to witnesses, the image was picked up near the base of the Uritorco in Capilla del Monte, adding that they are not aware of any fauna having that particular morphology, indicating as an additional item of information that on that date, the "Opening of Dimensional Portal 11:11" (sic) was celebrated. Door number 8, accoridng to this belief, is of particular importance in this locality. (Translation (c) 2007. S. Corrales, IHU. Special thanks to Ana Luisa Cid)

2007-02-25 McKinney, Texas- 4:40 PM- My wife and I were just leaving Erwin Park after walking our dogs. When we saw a extremely bright orb of white light. It was fairly large, about the size of a dime held out at arms length. It was almost to intense to look at just hovering not moving. If I had to guess it might have been up 30 degrees from the horizon and maybe 5,000 ft. We could see small airplane traffic down lower and commercial aircraft up higher leaving chem trails. The orb of light would fade out after a few seconds and the come back on in another location several time it would appear to be further away each time. Then some times it would be closer. We could not see anything when it faded out it would just appear at the next location. The last time we saw it, it was closer again. and stayed in the same spot. It would just fade out then reappear in the same spot. I managed to get five pictures of it from different locations always when I stopped the truck on the side of the road. I never did get a picture of it at its most brilliant state but some of the pictures show it quite bright. In one of the pictures it is not shinning and you can see some kind of elongated teardrop shaped object. The sighting may have lasted 15 minuets. My camera could only hold twelve pictures and some of the shots had no object in them.

Intrigue persists over lights in sky-For first time, military pilot tells of dropping flares; others say 'Phoenix Lights' were UFOs. Scott Craven The Arizona Republic Feb. 25, 2007 12:00 AM On a mild springlike evening the string of amber orbs appeared as if by magic, a celestial sleight of hand that would in the coming weeks make headlines and video highlights across the nation. Although little more than an atmospheric curiosity at the time, the hovering and evenly spaced balls of light would soon become known as the Phoenix Lights, an event that 10 years later continues to spark debate over just what was seen that night. Those who accepted the explanation that it was military flares dismissed the controversy with logical precision, while people who saw it as an otherworldly encounter claim the truth has been shrouded in lies and disinformation. In the ensuing decade, the Phoenix Lights would change outlooks, minds and even a few lives. What hasn't changed is this: The mystery that still hovers above March 13, 1997. The key witness What she was seeing had barely registered when Lynne Kitei raced inside to fetch her video camera. Lights, six of them, evenly spaced in a direct line. They were - floating? - over Phoenix. Certainly not a plane. Or balloons. She had seen something like this before, but could these be like the amber orbs she saw in 1995 hovering in formation just 100 yards from the backyard of her Paradise Valley home? And she had seen orbs like that just two months ago. In each case she had snapped photos. This time she wanted video. By the time she was back on her patio, only three lights continued to shine. She pressed "Record," and those several seconds of tape would become one of the seminal recordings of the Phoenix Lights to be shown on the news, TV specials and, several years later, her own documentary. In the decade since that night Kitei, a respected physician, has resigned from her position at the Arizona Heart Institute to devote herself full time to talk about, and further investigate, the Phoenix Lights. "If you had told me this is what I'd be doing," she says, "I would never have believed it, not in a million years." For seven years she spent nearly all her spare time trying to answer the question that plagued her: What were those orbs, and what did they want? She finished with 750 pages of notes detailing her interviews with witnesses, experts and UFO investigators. Her notes included extensive research of similar sightings around the world. Kitei remained anonymous for seven years, fearful of the ridicule that accompanies those seen to be tilting at extraterrestrial windmills. But her chase for the truth eventually overcame her fears of going public. She condensed her notes into a 222-page book, The Phoenix Lights, where she revealed her findings as well as her name. What she has not found is a definitive answer, only educated speculation as to the meaning of the lights. "It's never been about me; it's about the data," Kitei says. "To present it I had to come forward, to tell people what I know." Kitei also has discovered something nearly as surprising as interplanetary visitors - a wider acceptance of things that can't quite be explained. She said she still receives e-mails from fans of her book and her documentary, The Phoenix Lights . . . We Are Not Alone. She takes no offense at those who call her efforts a waste of time. "Some people deny it even exists, that it all feeds into a logical explanation," she says. "That's OK if it gives them comfort. Everyone in their own time." The lights appear It is generally agreed that at about 10 p.m. on March 13, 1997, under a clear sky with no breeze, a string of lights appeared to the southwest. The orbs seemed to form a flattened V shape, like a boomerang. They appeared to be motionless, or traveling so slowly that movement was imperceptible. They shimmered for five to 10 minutes and were seen by hundreds, and likely thousands, of people. In the days to come, air traffic controllers at Sky Harbor International Airport would tell reporters and UFO investigators that they spotted nothing on radar. Officials at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson would report that no military maneuvers were taking place that night at the Barry M. Goldwater Range to the west of Gila Bend (and would change their story two months later, saying the person on duty that night failed to look at the proper logbook). Photos and video of the Phoenix Lights were popping up on local and national TV news. The images made their way around the world. Then things got crazy.
Stories trickled in of isolated sightings from northwestern Arizona about three hours before the mass sighting in Phoenix. Some people said the lights seemed to float before accelerating and disappearing into the night. From those sightings, experts in the UFO community assembled a timeline that had a mysterious craft drifting north to south across Arizona. Video of the Phoenix Lights appeared on TV tabloid shows with breathless commentators wondering if this was the proof UFO believers had been waiting for. And when Gov. Fife Symington called a press conference, few expected to see the extraterrestrial who emerged from backstage (a Symington aide in alien drag). At least one person wasn't laughing. Frances Emma Barwood never saw the lights as she drove home March 13 north along Highway 51. Her eyes were on the road, not the sky, though in a week's time she'd be eye-deep in controversy. As the Phoenix city councilwoman fielded calls from curious constituents, she decided she needed to know more. She called for an investigation. What she got, Barwood says from her home in Dewey, was ridicule. "Oh, the media had a heyday with me," says Barwood, who would never hold another political office when her City Council stint was up. Barwood did not assume the lights were UFOs as the media inferred, she says. She only wanted a government agency to look into the odd occurrences of March 13. She received calls from eyewitnesses in Prescott Valley, Phoenix and points south. A decade ago, Barwood would have leaned toward a logical explanation. Today, she's open to the not-so-logical. "I don't know what it was, but I'm a lot more open to that thing coming from elsewhere," Barwood says. "What makes us think we're the only intelligent being in the whole entire universe?" The flares exposed Those who believed in logical explanations would have to wait four months for the proof they knew was out there when the military, spurred by a June 1997 story in USA Today that brought national attention to the Phoenix Lights, decided to take a second look. They were flares, said the Air National Guard, dropped during nighttime exercises at the Barry M. Goldwater Range. That simple explanation didn't fly with those who had four months of mystery on their side. They were flares, insists Lt. Col. Ed Jones, who piloted one of the four A-10s in the squadron that launched the flares. Jones, in his first interview with the media about the night 10 years ago, can't believe a decision to eject a few leftover flares turned into a UFO furor that continues to this day. Jones now is assistant director of operations for the 104th Fighter Squadron of the Maryland National Guard. His title has changed, but his story remains the same. He and the rest of his colleagues were cruising the night skies of southwestern Arizona on the last night of Operation Snowbird, so named because they were winter visitors. Pilots dropped flares to light the night but had no idea they were about to ignite controversy as well. On the way back to Tucson, not far from Gila Bend, Jones says, he reminded pilots to eject their leftover flares. Since this was their last night on maneuvers, it was more cost-effective to eject the flares than to offload and store the munitions upon returning. "One of our guys had about 10 or so left, so he started to puke them out, one after another," Jones says. "So every few seconds or so, when the next flare was ready to go, he hit the button and launched it." Jones looked behind him and saw an evenly spaced string of lights over the desert, floating ever so slowly to earth. Each was extremely bright, a "couple million" candle power, Jones knew. They seemed to hover because heat from the flare rose into the parachute, as if each were a tiny hot-air balloon. The planes headed for the base. Jones and the rest of the crew returned to Maryland. Several weeks later, Jones says, "All this stuff just blew up."
News of the unexplainable Phoenix Lights reached Maryland, where the logical explanation sat waiting to be discovered. It would not be until the end of July when it was announced that the Maryland Air National Guard had launched flares that night and were the lights everyone had seen.
"With flares that bright, they can be a lot closer than they seem," Jones said. "Yes, they could have looked like they were right over Phoenix." There are those who believe the flare story is a lie, the military's attempt to cover up the truth. Others think flares were indeed dropped but only as a diversion so officials could explain what people saw that night. Jim Dilletoso belongs in the first camp. The Phoenix computer specialist who has analyzed film and video of dozens of alleged UFO sightings says Lynne Kitei's video, the best taken that night, is not of military flares. Dilletoso compared the lights to the thousands of images on his database, which he likens to testing fingerprints or blood samples. He tests for size, brightness, movement characteristics and more. "I have thousands of knowns," Dilletoso says. "I didn't get a match to flares, airplane lights, Venus, swamp gas, flashlights, whatever. That means it's unknown. Not a spacecraft necessarily, but unknown." The questions remain A decade has passed, and while the Phoenix Lights have dimmed, they refuse to disappear. Steve Kates is not surprised. Dr. Sky, as he is known on radio and on his Web site, follows aviation and astronomy and often is called upon to explain unusual occurrences above us. Kates is hardly surprised the mystery of the Phoenix Lights endures today. "Mystery is a great thing," Kates says. "We don't want to think we're alone. I imagine even ancient people looked to the sky and wondered." The night had a profound effect on Bobby Brewer, who was with a friend driving southbound on Highway 51when the lights appeared. Brewer would write UFOs: 7 Things You Should Know, which many may consider unusual coming from a pastor. The experience led Brewer to respect those who have reported sightings, encounters or even abductions. The lights were so compelling that night, he pulled off the highway to stare. "It was like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time," says the pastor for young adults and singles at Citichurch in Scottsdale. "It took my breath away." Brewer did his own research, yet to this day he is still unsure of what he saw. Flares certainly seem plausible. A high-tech craft pushing the edge of physics is in the realm of possibility. And he won't discount a visit from another world. For Brewer, the Phoenix Lights remain a tantalizing mystery. He can live with that.

March 3, 2007-I wish to report a sighting of a UFO I saw around April or perhaps in July
1986 or 1987. The date will be helpful if I were to find out how I can
obtain a copy of either The Sun newspaper or of The Gazette Telegraph, of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, or from the actual reporting by AP who
disseminates such news reporting.
After reporting my first ever sighting of a UFO to a fellow NCO, Staff Sergeant Celso Lujan and to my direct supervisor, Captain Raymond Wixom, these soldiers did not believe my initial story. The following day, Staff Sergeant Lujan read the newspaper and alerted to me of the same story that I provided him just the day prior! Brief History: I was on Fort Carson, Colorado, in my 1986 Chevy Cavalier, and returning to work at the Staff Judge Advocate's Office. The time was around 11:45 a.m. I think the date was around April 1986 or in July 1987. I cannot recall, and the date I wrote down is temporarily missing, or permanently lost. I came to a stop at a red traffic light at Fort Carson. While watching for the light to turn to green, I continued to look up through the windshield of my car most of the time, but just as soon as I had come to a stop, I was already looking upward, in anticipation the light would not stay red for long. Something caught my attention! In the far corner of the upper left side of my windshield, I was startled to what appeared to be an out-of-control helicopter or aircraft of some sort. The object had an appearance to be "floating out of control". The distance was at what appeared to be near close to the edge of the blue, just above the highest of the clouds. The day was beautiful, but with a good number of white clouds, which periodically got in the way of a clear view of what was going on up there! I was startled over thinking that I was about to witness the crash of a helicopter, because of the way it was moving. An airplane most likely would have plummeted; a helicopter has rotary blades, and in the fashion it was moving, was not like a helicopter either! The movement was as if it was in a dizzy, floating episode. I also wondered, "How can that be a helicopter up that high? It's too far up there, and there's no way that can be with thin and cold air, for that to be a helicopter!" The low level clouds often were in my sight, but I tried to scan through the clouds against any open space to continue to keep an eye open for what I still wondered what the object was, out of concern and fear of a possible crash. Up to this point, I was never a believer in stories of UFO sightings. Still scanning the sky for the out-of-control object, and keeping my focus on the red light, I suddenly saw it! It was a huge silver or light gray disc! Not a shiny silver, but more like a flat silver-gray color. Just a plain underside! It was hovering below the lowest level clouds! I could not believe what I was seeing!!! The huge disc, which was sort-of "oblate spheroid shape. It was huge!!! I could see the entire disc bottom, and the angle was tilted to a degree, with the far side in the down position. (PLEASE SEE COPY OF MY DRAWING/ SKETCH-below). Given the height above me, and the enormous size, I would believe it to be as large as a football field, or close to the size! No way on earth could that have been created on earth, and there was no way I could have ever been convinced such things would have ever existed, not until that day made a real believer out of me! I am often perplexed, why of all days, was I so fortunate to witness it. I am bothered by the experience sometimes when I think of it. As I sat there in disbelief, my sudden panics from thinking I was about to witness a crash, turned to another side of emotion never experienced in my life, and that was to witness in plain view, the sighting of the UFO I saw that day!!! I went from, "Oh my God, what is that and I think it's out of control and going to crash, but where?", to "Oh my God! I can't believe this! A UFO! Oh my God, I can't believe this! A UFO!! I can't believe it!" looking around for any available person to scream out to look up. I did not see a soul! I was laughing this time, simply could not believe I was witnessing a UFO for the first time! My heart was racing even more from the emotions connected from the time I thought "something is going to crash!", to "Where is it? Where did it go?" And then, to suddenly see the huge disc appearing below the lowest level clouds right there in plain daylight! I was full of wonderment the whole time! I went from fear and excitement, to joy and excitement, and mixed with fear again and joy, wondering what would happen next, if anything. Having heard of stories of alien abductions, I remained scared inside my car. I wanted to get out of the car at the traffic light, but in some fear that this thing may see me and fly away, but on the other hand, I had some concern I would be abducted, or something unusual more than what I had already experienced would do something strange to me. I periodically glanced around to see if anyone was around, hoping there would be just to have a witness. Within moments of about a minute from the first sighting of it's fullness, glancing around for witnesses, the UFO remained hovering like a feathery like appearance, then it began to vibrate to the left. It slightly vibrated to the right, then back to the left, appearing that it was trying to pick up some sort of momentum, all in a few seconds, off to the left side of my windshield view. Then, it stopped as quick, and then Zoom! It took off faster than I have probably could close my eyelids!! It took off to the right side of my windshield's view, leaving an impression of a tail, but thinking back on my experience, my eyes were still fixated on the object, and because it moved at such a high speed, my eye perception simply could not comprehend it's fast speed, and it was gone! The moment I could see it no more which was too fast for me to comprehend, I looked around again, still no one in sight, the light was already green when I looked to see, and I drove to The Staff Judge Advocate Office claims department. There, Staff Sergeant Lujan was monitoring the phones for the week, and reading the Colorado Springs newspaper. I reported what I had just witnessed. He was more light, "Yeah, right, yeah right Sergeant Hansford!" I went into my office. Within the hour, Sergeant Lujan and Captain Wixom entered my office space, and Captain Wixom began with a smile and asking me, "So, you're starting to see UFO's now, right Sergeant Hansford?" (words to that effect), and, "Should I call the hospital for them to send some of the guys in the white jackets over here?" (something like that), and I stood up and reported to him exactly what I just saw earlier that day. They both apparently did not believe me, just as I would not have believed anyone in the past, such as the stories in the paper or on T.V. During the day, I told my friends and family later in the night. I made phone calls to friends and family to tell them as well! The following day, I went to lunch, and occasionally scanned the skies, and returned to the office again. Sergeant Lujan was monitoring the phones again, and as I passed him reading the paper, I muttered something to the effect of "No UFOs today, Sarge." I don't recall his reaction, and I went back to work. While I was in my office, Sergeant Lujan began screaming loudly for me, something like, "Oh my God, I can't believe this! Sergeant Hansford, come here! You've gotta see this! You're not going to believe this! Oh my God, I can't believe this!!" (something like that), and I went out to the open floor where he had the paper off the desk and pointing the article out to me. The article we were reading from the Colorado newspaper was an AP wire, reporting that over 500,000 people witnessed the same object which I had described to Sergeant Lujan and Captain Wixom and to all my friends and family, from the day before what I had seen at about 11:45 a.m. I believe the report came from witnesses around either in New Zealand or in Australia. I had written the date down, and cannot find the date at this time. I am believing the paper I had written it on, was lost in transition from my moving around since 1989. I have tried to contact the Colorado Sun or The Gazette Telegraph to obtain the exact date, but Are you able to help me to pinpoint the same type of report where there were about 500,000 people reporting seeing a UFO somewhere around that timeframe, and location? That would help me to pinpoint the exact date, which would have been the date prior to the article being printed. I have attached a copy of my only personal sketch for you. The numbers are the sequence of events.

02-24-07-Me and a friend were off Willshire Blvd looking east towards LA and a bright tealish blue flash appeared for 2-3 seconds. We got the camera and were setting it up in case it would happen again. Before we could start recording there was another one approximately the same time in length. There were no clouds yet the flashes were bright enough to light up the sky. source-www.mufon.com |

02-24-07-I went outside near my stair well of my apartment complex about 21:20 hrs. to smoke a cigarette. I was looking west toward the mountains when I noticed a light. At first I thought it was someone messing around with fireworks cause it all the sudden appeared, went up and then down, then disappeared. Then I saw it again. And this time it appeared, went from left to right then disappeared. I was watching it through the trees and then all the sudden appears to me in clear view. Moving around irraticaly moving in all directions, appearing and disappearing for about 10 minutes. Then it finally disappeared all together. During those ten minutes, I was laughing in astonishment at the object. In other words I was so excited I was giggling time to time. Just surprised to see a sighting that well, it is very unusual to see such a sighting here in Denver. Seeing ones way out in space is one thing, but whoever or whatever it was, was trying to catch civilian's attention. I know I wasn't the only one to see, I couldn't be... source-www.mufon.com |

02-22-07-Standing on my back porch I have a view of 9 radio antennas. Between two of the antennas which are about 2 miles in the distance and above them I noticed a single blink of white light about 1 second in duration. At first I thought this was an airplane, but there were no other blinks. So I watched that area. Then about 1-2 minute later there was a second blink same duration close to the first one. I waited another few minutes to see if there were anymore, but that was it and I was impatient and went back inside.
It was a cloudless clear night. Other planes could be seen in the sky with blinking lights as usual. The angle from the horizon was about 10-15 degrees. The antennas themselves have an array of blinking lights, and blink about every 3 seconds. I could distinctly see the antenna blinks, and the two blinks I saw were not part of the antenna arrays. source-www.mufon.com |

02-20-07-Manhattan-I think it was the 20th of this February that my son pointed out to me as we were driving... what looked like a very bright star, or bright airplane. However, it was not moving-at all... it sort of just stayed in the same place above and a good distance in front of us. It was about 10pm at night, with very few lights nearby us, we were able to look at it for a while, until it then just moved from where it was stationary. It sort of zipped very smoothly to the right across the sky, and then we no longer saw it at all. In January, I questioned a comet or "shooting star" that I saw from my balcony. It was very bizarre. But what we saw in February was, bar far- unidentifiable. Jill C.-source: www.ufocasebook.com |

02-21-07-I was on the Triple chair lift at maple ski ridge alone and I see a light crusing along at a normal plane speed in the distance to my left. Then it, without even stopping, changes course to down and back, diagonally, much faster (unlike a chopper.) when it is near the tree line it stopped and hovered, then gradually sank below the trees. Later on my next lift ride I saw It apparently rise up again and fly away.-source: www.mufon.com

02-19-07-At 11:00 PM, me and my boyfriend were on a road between two lakes and we saw a very, very bright white object knowing that an airplane or helicopter can't fly vertically and can't stand still and cant dip up and down and can't go backwards, we started thinking of a UFO. We were following it in my car as it got lower and then real bright and real dim and blinking. We were following trying to get close and there was a second little light behind the very bright white-like light and we followed it about 6 miles and it just dissappeared. We both thought we were crazy but what else could it be moving and shining like this very bright circle light was. Any ideas? source-http://ufos.about.com |

02-23-07-I have a witness this time. Tonight at work at approximately 8:15pm (during my break), I saw the same cone-like object from Altizer, as it hovered over the Procterville area. As soon as I came outside, I immediately located the luminous object but it was a bit higher in the sky and somewhat closer (approx. 20 degrees) above the horizon. I was suprised to see it again but I remained calm and motioned the security guard to come over. I pointed it out to him and told him it was the same object I had seen the previous evening at approx. the same time. We were looking towards the north. We stood together and watched the object as it hovered and slowly moved eastward (almost drifting like a balloon) around the hillside and dipped out of view. It was in view for approx two to three minutes. We both agreed it wasn’t a star or a plane (the sky was very clear w /a few planes high up). We both watched it together for approx. two to three minutes before it drifted east and dipped downwards. The guard said it seem to be over RT. 775 in Ohio. I was very glad to have a witness this time as I told the security guard the night before of what I had seen. source-www.mufon.com |
