Navy Veteran Recalls UFO Encounter-USS Blandy DD 943
|
I was reading the account by Jim Kopf regarding the 1971 encounter involving the USS John Kennedy CVA 67 and it brought to mind a similar encounter in 1960 that I experienced when I was in the US Navy. Unfortunately, time has erased a lot of what I would like to recall such as the exact time of the year, however I can state that what I witnessed was very similar to Mr. Kopf's experience.
My ship, the USS Blandy DD 943, routinely patrolled the Atlantic Ocean off of the East Coast and quite often within the Bermuda Triangle while conducting Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercises. During this one particular cruise in the summer of 1960 (which I am sure took place within the Bermuda Triangle) I was standing the 8 to Mid watch as a Quartermaster when I heard someone yell: "Hey, what the hell is that?" I went outside to the port side wing of the bridge and as I looked upward I saw a large blue light hovering directly above the ship.
Like Mr. Kopf's sighting the light was spherical (i.e., circular) but with no definition or "hard edges" and it was hard to determine exactly how close or large it was but in my minds eye I recall that it appeared to be fairly close and something like 50 - 75 feet in diameter. Although the light seemed to glimmer, no noise emanated from the light. Also, the light did not seem to have any effect on the ships electronics, etc., nor did it appear on the ship's radar screen (or at least no one reported that it had, anyway).
This phenomenon lasted about 20-30 seconds and then it started to lift - slowly at first - and then it went upward very fast and then disappeared (it did not seem to go upward for a great distance).
This event took place at about 2200 hours and, as I recall, it was a calm but cloudy and moonless night. I do not remember the names of my fellow sailors who witnessed this event with me (about 6-7 others including the Officer of the Deck) but I am sure that they would remember it as vividly as I do today.
As Quartermaster it was my duty to make a wide variety of entries into the ship's log (such as weather conditions, ships speed, ships heading, changes in the watch, sightings of other ships, etc.) and I recall writing something to the effect that " A strange and unidentified phenomenon had appeared above the ship" in the log book. The date and time of this entry was also recorded.
I still believe it strange that no investigation nor any further discussion or reporting ever took place in regards to this sighting. No one ever told us that "I would like to remind the crew, that certain events that take place aboard a Naval Combatant Ship, are classified and are not to be discussed with anyone without a need to know" as Mr. Kopf related but no one ever told us what it might have been, either. But I remember and somewhere in the Naval Archives is the USS Blandy's ships log that recorded this event.

Strange Object in Photograph from Canton, TX
|
Texas-10-12-07-My friend was taking pictures of their new land they had just bought in Canton, Texas. The first picture (seen at left) is of her boyfriend removing the "For Sale" sign. You can barely see the small black dot in the upper right corner of the picture.
The second picture (seen below) is of him after tossing the "For Sale" sign on the ground. Here you can see the object very well. She did not notice the object in either picture until the film was developed.
She didn't know what to do with the pictures until I told her they should be seen by someone just in case it is something.

3rd Annual Retro UFO Spacecraft Convention
|
Have you ever looked up at the night sky and swear you saw a UFO? …or wondered if our friends from distant planets have already visited Earth? Want to know more? Then head for the 3rd Annual Retro UFO Spacecraft Convention in Landers, California, a small town in the high desert, roughly 30 miles from Palm Springs, midway between Yucca Valley and famed Joshua Tree, for two days of fun the weekend of April 26 and 27!
You’ll get a friendly, nostalgic look into the unique era of UFO history in the Mojave Desert in the ’60s and ’70s.
Unlike other UFO conventions which are typically held in bland civic center meeting rooms, Retro UFO is unique. It’s held on the grounds of the legendary Integratron, a fascinating dome-topped building which scientists have called “ a mass battery” and “a magnetic room”. With Giant Rock nearby, the largest free standing boulder in the world until its unexpected split in 2000, the location is quite possibly one of the most sacred sites of all extraterrestrial phenomena. The Integratron is described by its creator, George Van Tassel, as “a machine, a high-voltage, electrostatic generator that would supply a broad range of frequencies to recharge the cell structure.”
Are we talking the Fountain of Youth? Ok, you have my interest. Now on to the main event.
The Retro UFO Spacecraft Convention brings together some of the world’s most notable speakers in fields such as the paranormal, alien mind control, urban legends, crop circles, past life regression, alien abduction, and naturally, conspiracy theories, among many other fascinating subjects, to share their stories. Some claim to be “contactees” themselves, having personally been contacted by extraterrestrials. Others claim to help you remove your alien implants, account for missing time, or talk through your abduction(s). All have wondrous stories to tell and plenty of advice to give for those who need it.
In addition to the speakers, expect tours of Giant Rock and the Integratron, movies, contests for best costume, including our favorite, a contest for best tin foil hat, live music, a laser light show, and what we consider to be one of the most unique experiences in the desert, a “Sound Bath”. The Sound Bath takes place inside the Integratron and is described as a “30 minute sonic healing session experienced while resting in the highly resonant, multi-waved sound chamber as 9 quartz crystal singing bowls are played, each keyed to the one of the chakras of the body.” Bottom line: You’re bathing your body in sound to produce a healing relaxation of the mind and body. Sounds great to us. Fire up your blasters and enjoy some unique desert UFO history at the 3rd Annual Retro UFO Spacecraft Conference!

Argentinean Communities Visited by Strange Entities in Human Shape
|
Date: 04/06/08-Strange Apparitions Accompany Saucer Waves
By Sebastian Aranguren
In Valcheta, Rio Negro Province, between Bajos del Gualicho and Somuncurá, there are those who claim to have seen an inexplicable light in the immensity of the desert, belonging to a lost city that emerges and vanishes, according to Luis Burgos.
The vast number of UFO cases recorded in Argentina, totaling 110 sightings since the start of the year, has opened the door to a singular number of ET- related phenomena which include, for example, strange characters that vanish and evaporate in the loneliness of the towns of the interior.
Ufological studies of these mysterious manifestations of “strange people”, as defined by the locals who experience them, suggest that these fantastic manifestations of the UFO phenomenon are closely tied to the latest extraterrestrial developments.
Specialists who deal in these cases believe that the manifestations are usually contained within the small communities in which they occur, and therefore do not yield even larger case histories within a field that nonetheless acknowledges the presence of ghostly figures ascribed to alien entities.
Luis Burgos, director of the Fundacion Argentina de Ovnilogia (FAO), stresses that the subject isn’t an easy one, as involvement in these cases implies crossing the swampy terrain that lies on the border between ufology and parapsychology. Burgos cautiously took on the challenge of stating the specifics of these manifestations, which always occur at lonely locations with few witnesses. The final result is a unique experience that may have various interpretations.
”The explanation one can give these cases is that the fit into a collateral manifestation of the UFO phenomenon,” says Burgos, convinced that in order to venture into these cases “it is necessary to have the proper balance, as poorly grounded individuals could go off the deep end.”
From FAO’s perspective, one of the most valuable cases consigned in local records and involving fantastic events that cannot be rationally explained, could be taking place right now in any town of the interior.
Burgos recalled that some 8 years ago, in the vicinity of Estancia La Esperanza, Gobernador Galvez, Province of Buenos Aires a young woman witnessed one of these cases: two alleged teenagers, dressed in early 20th century farming clothes, crossed her path in an empty field.
Carolina, the protagonist of this story, gave FAO a detailed account when researchers delved into the case. She explained that the two teenagers – a male and a female – whom she was seeing for the first time, greeted her by name. When she turned around to ask where they knew her from, they had already vanished.
“There are many cases in ufology that involved contacts with humanlike entities clothed in archaic dress, as though they belonged to another time,” explains Burgos, not dismissing the possibility that this situation could be the result of a “breach in time.” The specialist does not dismiss the possibility of a “dimensional doorway”, but adds that the known cases of “oddball humans” always occur within the framework of UFO manifestations. Therefore, it is “very feasible” that the current UFO flap will yield some of these experiences.
The 110 sightings catalogued by FAO in 2008 stress the possibility that fantastic experiences, such as Carolina’s, may occur. To this day she still talks about the day that she crossed paths on her way to La Esperanza with “oddball people” having nothing to do with the town and probably not to the world as we know it.
Humanoids And Mysterious Cases
Ufology acknowledges several sidelines of the UFO phenomenon that somehow mark the presence of humanoid contact with Earth dwellers. These give rise to such bizarre events as the animal mutilations ascribed to the Chupacabras, imp-like beings similar to the ones from the SUPE neighborhood in Berisso, and even ghosts.
One of the stranger cases involves animal mutilations in the pastures of the heartland by a specimen still uncatalogued by human science or rather, by an entity that still remains unknown, aside from its red eyes glaring in the dark of the night, generally near the carcass of an eviscerated bovine.
The Nuns of Berisso and Suicide Dogs
When it comes to marking strange events linked to the UFO phenomenon, the FAO’s records hold some unique cases that exemplify this connection rather well, such as the enigmatic presence of the so-called “Nuns” of Berisso, who caused surprise and shock to infrequent witnesses.
FAO’s files make reference to them during an investigation performed in 1991, in after some workers in the Naval Workshop area of that community, located south of La Plata, allegedly saw entities clad in hooded garments – hence their description as “nuns” – moved around, causing wonder and fear of the unknown.
At that same site, and within the framework of this investigation, another “high-strangeness” characteristic ascribed to UFOs emerged. Three operators of the old electric power station facing the port of La Plata claimed seeing a strange creature running between the sheds. It stood no taller than 40 centimeters, but was robust and clad in green, military-type garments.
Prior to the manifestations of the “Nuns” and the creatures of the old power station in the SUPE neighborhood, FAO also recorded an intense UFO presence over the area which gave rise to a terrible situation: dozens of dogs leaped into the void from terraces and balconies, inexplicably committing suicide.

Teleportation, Time Travel and Aliens - a Vision of Tomorrow Today
|
--Graphic-Barney Broom
Even the most outlandish science fiction could become fact, says professor James Randerson, science correspondent The Guardian
Wednesday April 2 2008- Scientists currently have the best chance in history of making contact with aliens. Photograph: Graham Turner
Einstein gave hope to scientists chasing the most outlandish theories when he famously declared: "If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it."
He then proved the existence of black holes and the notion that time passes more slowly the faster you travel.
Now one of the world's most distinguished physicists has scrutinised some of science fiction's other concepts, such as teleportation and forcefields, and is convinced that they too can become reality.
Professor Michio Kaku, of City University in New York, has ruled out time travel for at least a few millennia, but believes invisibility cloaks and telepathy could be possible this century.
"So many times predictions are made that certain things are impossible only to find them becoming possible a decade or a few decades later," he said. In his new book, The Physics of the Impossible, published in the UK today, Kaku rates seemingly impossible phenomena according to how likely they are to happen.
Teleportation
When Gene Roddenberry was planning the early episodes of the cult sci-fi series Star Trek Paramount studios, who financed the project, said the special effects necessary to recreate ships taking off and landing were too expensive. Roddenberry needed another way to get his characters down onto the surface of the uncharted worlds they were visiting. "He said, 'we'll just beam them onto the planet and save a tonne of money'," said Kaku.
That money-saving decision did much to cement teleportation as the epitome of the sci-fi way to get around, but teleportation is actually already being done by physicists. It relies on a deeply strange phenomenon called quantum entanglement, which physicists have already used to "teleport" a photon 89 miles between La Palma and Tenerife in the Canary Island group. But Kaku concedes that Captain Kirk will have to wait a couple of centuries. "You are not actually moving the photons from one place to another because you are destroying the original. What materialises at the other end is your twin which has all the information of the previous object."
Time Travel
The Cambridge physicist Professor Stephen Hawking spent much of his career attempting to prove that time travel is impossible. If it were possible, he reasoned, why have we not been visited by voyagers from the future? But he was forced to conclude that there is actually nothing in the laws of physics that prevents moving in time.
"He changed his mind about 10 years ago," said Kaku, "There was no way to ban time travel from happening. So now he says that time travel is possible, but not practical."
The way it might work would be to take a trip through a worm hole connecting one point in space and time with another. The laws of physics suggest that the intense gravity of a black hole is enough to rip the fabric of space and time, making a worm hole possible.
"What we physicists want to do is create our own wormhole so that if you walk through the looking glass you may go backwards in time," said Kaku. Stabilising a black hole would require large amounts of an exotic form of energy called negative energy, thought to be impossible. "But we can now make it in the laboratory," said Kaku.
Invisibility
One reason why no one has met any time travellers from the future might be, Kaku suggested, because they are able to make themselves invisible. "Invisibility a la Harry Potter's cloak is no longer out of the question," he said. He rates it as the sci-fi technology that is likely to happen soonest. Perhaps the most promising new development is the creation of an exotic new substance called a metamaterial. By eliminating reflections and shadows, it renders an object invisible.
Alien Contact
Scientists currently have the best chance in history of making contact with aliens. Although humanity has been combing the skies for signs of life for decades, the search so far has been haphazard. Astronomers have detected around 300 planets in other solar systems, but these are generally large Jupiter-like planets which do not look like a good bet for harbouring life.
Satellites will greatly enhance scientists' ability to detect Earth-like planets. "We've only scanned about a thousand stars and that's nothing. We haven't even scanned the stars in our neighbourhood," said Kaku, "We hope to analyse a thousand times more data than was collected in all the sweeps of the past. And that's why we are much more optimistic that we will make contact with alien life." He thinks contact with an alien civilisation could happen within decades.
Precognition
Being able to predict the future is very difficult to reconcile with the known laws of physics. "It would set off a major shake-up in the very foundations of modern physics if precognition was ever proved in reproducible experiments," said Kaku.
The impossible takes longer: Michio Kaku's ratings
Type 1 impossibilities
Impossible today, but do not violate the known laws of physics. Might be possible this century or the next: force fields, invisibility, phasers and death stars, teleportation, telepathy, psychokinesis, robots, UFOs and aliens, starships, antimatter and anti-universes
Type 2 impossibilities
Technologies that sit at the edge of our understanding of the physical world. May be realised millenia or millions of years in the future: faster-than-light travel, time travel, parallel universes
Type 3 impossibilties
Technologies that violate the known laws of physics. If they turn out to be possible, they would represent a fundamental shift in our understanding of physics: perpetual motion machines, precognition

Blips on the Scopes, Washington D.C., 1952
|
Monday, Aug. 04, 1952-Air traffic was light at Washington Airport one midnight last week, and the radar scope of the Civil Aeronautics Authority was almost clear. At 12:40 a.m. a group of bright blips showed. The operator estimated that they were about 15 miles southwest of Washington. Then the blips disappeared abruptly and reappeared a few seconds later over northeast Washington. The operator called his boss, Senior Controller Harry Barnes, 39, a graduate of the Buffalo Technical Institute who has worked for the CAA as an electronics expert since 1941. The operator told Barnes: "Here are some flying saucers for you."
Barnes laughed at first, but the blips kept popping up all over the scope. They sometimes hovered, sometimes flew slowly and sometimes incredibly fast. Technicians checked the radar; it was in good working order.
Over the White House. Barnes began to get worried when he saw the blips apparently flying over the White House and other prohibited areas. He called the airport control tower. Sure enough, its radar showed the strange blips too. When the towermen measured the speed of a fast blip, they found that it had flown for eight miles at 7,200 m.p.h.
Now the blips on Barnes's scope were moving toward Andrews Air Force Base about ten miles to the east. Barnes called the Andrews tower. Nothing strange showed on its radar, but both towermen and an enlisted man on the field saw a single, round, orange light drifting in the southern sky. That was enough for Barnes. He called the Air Defense Command and reported an unidentified object was over the Washington area. Then he told an airline pilot, C. S. Pierman of Capital Airlines, who was about to take off for Pittsburgh, to watch for mysterious objects. Pierman climbed to 6,000 ft. and headed northwest. Barnes & Co. saw a group of strange blips cluster around the blip made by Pierman's plane, and Pierman spotted a white light "like a falling star." It sped away, and its blip disappeared from Barnes's scope.
Air Force to the Rescue. Over from a Delaware base came a flight of radar-equipped F94 jet fighters. Before they reached Washington, all the blips vanished. The jets saw nothing at all. But when the jets departed the blips reappeared, playing all over the scope, Barnes said, "like a bunch of kids." He called all airliners flying near Washington, asked their pilots to report any strange objects. One pilot saw a white light, moving fast. But during all this uproar, other radars near Washington (e.g., Quantico and Fort Meade) saw nothing unusual.
All the rest of the week, a few strange blips appeared now & then. Then on Saturday night they broke out all over, crisscrossing the capital as they had the week before. This time, the radar at Andrews was seeing the things too. One blip hung over Boiling Field, across the Potomac from the airport, but observers at Boiling saw nothing in the sky. Some airline pilots saw mysterious lights; others saw nothing.
The Saucer Flies Again. Down from Delaware roared another flight of night fighters. This time the blips did not vanish. They stayed on the ground scopes while the jets screamed among them. But only one pilot saw a light; another saw a doubtful blip on his scope. It vanished before he could shoot.
What were the mysterious blips? The Air Force, unless it was trying to conceal some mysterious gadget of its own (e.g., a radar countermeasure), was as baffled as everyone else. As might be expected, the phantom invasion touched off a whole new rash of flying-saucer stories. But if the men from Mars were really overhead, the oddest part of the whole strange story was the fact that among all the conflicting reports, no radar outside of a ten-mile radius in Washington reported seeing anything unusual at any time.

California-Red Lights in Triangle Formation
|
03-28-08-At 8:05 PM, I was outside looking at the stars when I saw 2 to 3 red blinking lights. When I looked closer I noticed that there was 8 to 10 red blinking lights in a triangular formation. They appeared to be high and fairly spread apart but kept the triangular formation. There was a single plane flying in the same direction what seemed to be seconds after I lost sight of the red triangle shaped lights. source: www.mufon.com

Florida-Red, Star-looking Object
|
03-29-08-We were at the beach having a bonfire, the sky was clear, and it was about 8:30 or 9:00 PM. I was looking up at the stars, and noticed the small red looking light (star?) and thought that it started moving. Then I noticed it was a really bright light that was moving, not the red light. It was moving northward and it seemed to be moving pretty fast. I had everyone look up and we were trying to figure out what it was, and as it was moving across the sky heading to the north it quickly changed directions and started moving eastward, it didn't turn it moved quickly to the east and we continued watching it as it disappeared into the sky it appeared to disappear into the stars.
I watched it until it could no longer be seen. We all deduced that it moved too fast and changed direction too fast to be a plane. Also, it was such a bright white light. We all tried to come up with a logical answer to what we were seeing but all we could figure out is what it wasn't-a plane, a satellite, or a comet... would love to know what it was. source: www.mufon.com

Missouri-Unknown Light Moves Toward House
|
04-05-08-I was walking into our bedroom to feed the baby, and also talking on the phone to my mom. I walked to the window (facing west) to shut the blind when I noticed a bright yellowish light in the southwestern sky.
I was looking sort of catty-corned towards the Missouri river. I thought it was just an airplane at first, but it appeared to hover for around a minute. I watched it a little longer, and it seemed to waver and quiver around, so I figured it was probably a planet, since I've seen Venus appear to do similar things due to atmospheric distortion.
As I watched, the light sunk below the tree line. When this happened, I got off the phone in order to pay attention to this light better. As I watched, I could see the light moving back and forth and up and down behind the trees: I'm not sure just how long I watched it, but then the light emerged from the trees at about treetop level and started across the road and into the field, heading directly towards our house (the tree line is maybe about 300 yards from us).
The light appeared to be a diamond-shape composed of 3 or 4 smaller yellowish lights, and there was no noise associated with it. When I saw it start towards the house, I yelled and shut the blind as fast as I could. My husband heard me yell, and asked what was going on. I ran into the living room and told him what I saw, so we both went outside to look. By the time we got outside, the light was gone. source: www.mufon.com

Pennsylvania-Pulsing, Red Light
|
04-07-08-It was between 1:00 and 1:15 AM, on the morning of April 7th, 2008. I was in my car driving around the neighborhood looking for my cat. I saw a red light about the size of two quarters behind the trees, and it was moving. It pulsed. I was curious and followed it to get a closer look. It crossed over Rt. 309 over behind WalMart and then I couldn't follow it anymore as the road ended and it eventually was out of sight.
It had a really bright, big red light and some smaller white lights and some other colors-I couldn't tell exactly what the other colors were as it moved quickly and then I lost sight of it. It was pretty low as it appeared to be behind trees. The red light pulsed and the other lights twinkled and changed color rapidly. source: www.mufon.com

South Wales-Light Larger than Star
|
04-02-08-I was walking our dogs with my mother in the countryside not far from our home in Penperlleni, South Wales at 10:20 PM. It was just starting to get dark and we saw what we initially thought was a really bright star. We were then standing still looking at it we realized it was moving. It was bigger than the few other stars that were out and a lot brighter.
It was moving at a fast, steady pace at what looked to be a high altitude. Unlike shooting stars or comets, it did not have a tail, it was very similar to a star only brighter. An aircraft was nearby, and looked like it was at the same altitude. But, this thing was bigger than the aircraft and faster.
Eventually after a couple of minutes it went into the clouds and was out of sight. After speaking to a few people and watching videos on youtube.com, I thought it could be a satellite, although I really have no idea what it was, and neither does my mother. I was pretty excited after seeing it, but definitely felt on guard the rest of the way home. After seeing it, there appeared to be a lot of aircraft around that area although that could have easily just been a coincidence.source: www.mufon.co

Texas-Triangle Sighted
|
03-08-08-I live in Austin, TX and several weeks ago (March 08) I saw a triangle (inverted "V" is the best description I have) w/ red lights down what would be both wings.
This object was the size of my thumbnail when held up to compare and moved from west to east at approximately 7:00 PM or so. It did not make any sound and I failed to get a picture. Submitted by Mark N. source: www.ufocasebook.com
