MEXICO (EFE) -- In an unprecedented move for this country--and perhaps the whole world-- military authorities have made public a video showing 11 unidentified flying objects (UFOs) captured by an aircraft belonging to the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA). This video shall be presented today by journalist and UFO researcher Jaime Maussan.
In an exclusive interview with the La Prensa newspaper, Maussan stated that the Secretary of National Defense himself, Ricardo Clemente Vega Garcia, authorized the broadcast of this material to both domestic and foreign news media.
According to the researcher, the encounter occurred on March 5, when an aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force, a Merlin C26/A, was engaged in drug interdiction patrols. At around 17:00 hours it detected the presence of 11 objects following it.
The routine flight took place between Copalar, Chiapas and the State of Campeche. The encounter took place near Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche. It was there that the aircraft, belonging to the 501st Air Squadron was performing its routine patrol when it suddenly detected the presence of an object on its radar at an elevation of 3500 meters, as well as through its infrared equipment (FLIR).
The airplane immediately pursued the object, which according to the video footage, lost itself in the clouds. Minutes later, the presence of other objects -- for a total of 11 -- was detected. They followed the aircraft and surrounded it.
These UFOs were captured on radar and by the FLIR gear. However, they were never seen by the aircrew despite having been two miles distant from the aircraft at one point. The crew consisted of eight monitoring specialists, among them the pilot, Maj. Magdaleno Castañón Muñoz, radar operator Lt. Germán Martin Ramirez and FLIR operator Mario Adrian Vázquez Tellez. These military men were interviewed and claimed having never seen a similar phenomenon, since the speed and movements detected by radar confirmed the fact that the [objects] were not aircraft.

(Editors Note: This report was sent to the UFO Casebook via email. I received a very interesting picture in email from the webmaster at benzjie.demon.nl who stated that he thought he had found a very interesting photograph on this website. It appeared to him that there was a transparent dome on the Moon. The photo he sent was not altered in any way except for enlargement. It does appear that there is a dome of some type that is at least opaque, and is reflecting a light source of some type. It appears to be almost a perfect circle. Take a look at the larger photo, and see what you think. (click on small image above)

CENTERVILLE. A full moon shone over Centerville when a young mother nursing her 3-week-old baby at 5:30 a.m. saw the electricity go off and on, the tops of trees glow, and bright lights arcing outside. Numerous 911 calls streamed into the Centerville Police Department from Lakeview Drive residents near Stingley Elementary School about explosions and electrical disruptions. The couple, who asked that only their first names be used, said they saw an alien spacecraft hovering in the sky. The March 8 event has an area UFO researcher claiming a cover-up by city officials who have shown disinterest in investigating. "My wife first saw it. It was right outside our window," Mark told a police dispatcher in his 911 call. "It was like an alien ship and it blew up," he said. "It was like a bomb going off. It was going to the power lines. I don't believe I'm saying this. It hovered down over the school and it was streaming lights and flashing. It came down all the way over the school towards my house and then it would just go 'Boom!' All the electric would drop." Mark later described it as a disk-shaped ship "about the size of a small house. I thought it was a ship attacking in the night," he said. The ship appeared and disappeared over the school, and was gone by the time police arrived, he said. "It was only about 50 feet away and 15 feet off the ground and it had lights," wife Deanna said. "My first initial thought was that they were trying to get the baby." Mark described the craft as having a "burnt polished aluminum surface" to Kerry Young, a UFO researcher from the Kentucky/Cincinnati area who manages a UFO Web site. Young said he plans to post a story he wrote about the event along with 911 tape he got from Bruce Forester, a Bellbrook UFO investigator. He said he's concerned about radioactivity in the area and the fact city officials have dismissed UFO claims. Centerville police say they don't have any plans to investigate. "We are convinced it was a transformer blowing," Centerville police Sgt. Scott Owsley said. Dayton Power and Light Co. spokesman Ted Tathan said DP&L had "one brief outage in the morning that affected 200 customers. A tree limb got on the lines at Main and Normandy streets north of Franklin Street and a circuit breaker in a substation (260 Zengel Drive) opened up" to protect the system, he said. Regis Higgins, 91, who lives across from Mark and Deanna, heard three loud explosions. He said he understands how they might think it was "something else. They're not imagining, but it was a mistake on their part," he said. "I don't think we had any UFO. It really was an illusion." Centerville Assistant City Manager Judy Gilleland and Washington Twp. fire Chief Ken Parks said high winds made electrical wires arc and spark on Lakeview and North Johanna drives. "It's a very frequent occurrence," Parks said.

I receive a large amount of email; most of it comes from folks who give us a thumbs up, and we do appreciate that. We also get a lot of pictures, documents, sighting reports, and an occasional video through email and regular post. They all are welcome, and a source of study and sometimes amusement. Many friendships have sprung from my email contacts. These friendships have made the whole long journey into the mysterious and sometimes baffling study of UFOs a worthwhile experience.
Recently, I received an image of what is obviously a photograph of a UFO. The image also had a type of official looking stamp on it, with the word "center" at the top and "classified" at the bottom. I put the image on a webpage, and sent the url through the para-discuss group at Yahoo, but so far no one has identified the emblem. Of course, the whole thing may be a joke, or hoax. The email had no message, just the embedded image. I, of course, repsponded to the sender for additional information, but no answer was forthcoming. If any of you know what the emblem means, or have any information about the photograph, please let me know, just send me an email. Saturday, May 8, 2004. Florence resident seeks people who saw object in '49. FLORENCE - Kenny Young is searching for people who may have seen a UFO in Norwood many moons ago. Young, a Florence resident, says he's trying to find proof of 10 UFO sightings in Norwood from August 1949 to March 1950. "If we're going to get critical information on it, we'll have to get it fast because it's such an old story," said Young. Young is studying reports of an unidentified flying object that he says was first seen and logged by searchlight operator Donald Berger Aug. 19, 1949. Berger, now dead, was operating the light for the festival at SS. Peter and Paul Church (now Holy Trinity Church) at Drex Avenue and Montgomery Road that evening. The object, according to newspaper accounts, was also observed by the late Dr. Paul Herget, then director of the Cincinnati Observatory. Historian John Ventre is tracing the history of the observatory and said information on what Herget saw will be included in that research. After Berger's UFO sighting, clergy members, scientists, astronomers and military personnel went to the church in the next seven months and saw the object, Young said he has learned through news accounts and interviews. Art Veser, 77, lived next door to Berger. Veser went with Berger to the church in October that year to see it for himself. "He turned on the searchlight and there was something up there, but I wasn't too impressed," said Veser. "It could have been a cloud." Berger told Veser there had been flashes of light shooting from the object on past nights, but it didn't happen while Veser was there. If you have information, contact Young at (513) 588-4548 or ufo@fuse.net.

1949 Norwood, Ohio Searchlight Incident |
The alleged observation of a massive object by searchlight operator Donald R. Berger, and meticulously detailed in his logs, remain one of the more curious events in UFO history.
This case is exceptional not only because of the dramatic event reported, but also because of the caliber of witnesses involved. The series of incidents were said to have been witnessed by civilians, by clergy, by scientists, by police officers and military officials.
Photos were taken on October 23, 1949 by Norwood Police Sgt.Leo Davidson, and 2 reels of 25-ft. motion picture film were kept in the possession of Reverend Gregory Miller, last seen at WCPO Channel 9 TV studios in 1952.
Still frames from the movie film were given to investigator Leonard Stringfield and published in his book "SAUCER POST 3-0 BLUE." That photo from his book was scanned and enhanced for this report. Using this same photo, an earlier analysis had been made by Dr. Richard Haines.

"I have included two versions with special filtration. The second (middle) image makes the dramatic bend of the light beam especially clear and easy to measure (on the top of the beam). The second (last) version seems to show what might be interpreted to be a focus effect of the light within the beam. Note the dark diamond shape (bright in the original) between the object and the place where the beam bends."

Could someone help explain if any reference to the 1949 Norwood Searchlight/UFO incident does or does not appear in Project Grudge files?
The Norwood case involves 10 visual sightings by multiple civilian, clergy, police, scientist and military witnesses over a 7-month duration, facilitated by the use of a powerful searchlight ran by Army Sgt. Donald R. Berger. The first sighting took place during "The Jitney Carnival" of 1949 and witnessed by hundreds The following morning, three local newspapers- The Cincinnati Post, The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Cincinnati Times Star- all had articles regarding 'strange lights' and 'comets seen over the city' from the previous evening.
There was an explanation for the occurrence, according to one local newspaper. The Albee Theater in nearby Cincinnati, accompanied by the Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Norwood, were operating searchlights. It was said that the hundreds of persons calling newspapers and weather bureau officials were simply observing these searchlight beams 'bouncing off of clouds.'
Despite this, the sightings began in earnest after 11:00 p.m. (Berger logs indicate that he observed the UFO from 8:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) and continued to flummox Cincinnati residents until 6:30 a.m. the following morning. It seems unlikely searchlights would be operating all night long until daylight, and further still, one weather bureau official recounted his early-morning observation of two objects that looked like "two weather ceiling balloons" that weren't moving despite a wind speed of 25 to 32-miles per hour.
Even the Berger logs indicate the possible presence of a second searchlight from that evening, whether Berger knew there was another searchlight at work or not. "When I moved the searchlight away, the object continued to glow," Berger wrote in his 1949 logs that were later kept in the possession of Rev. Gregory Miller until 1954, when he imparted them to UFO investigator Leonard Stringfield.
Meanwhile, during the festival in Norwood, Robert Linn, the managing editor of the Cincinnati Post, along with church pastor Rev. Gregory Miller, were certain that Berger's searchlight had found and been bouncing off of "some definite object." They entered into agreement and reported the situation to intelligence officials at Wright Field in nearby Dayton, Ohio.
Now that the situation is established, I am hoping someone might be able to offer some explanation of the attitudes toward UFO investigation by Grudge during the August, 1949 time period. Was Project Grudge headquarted at Dayton and did they disregard the events at Norwood? The August 19th episode is a mass-witness case, reported in all three local newspapers of Cincinnati, Ohio, a city not far south of Dayton, home of the airbase. A possible explanation is publicly toyed with: the deception caused by two searchlight beams strolling the dark skies. It seems as if Grudge folks would have likely been aware of the events at Norwood on August 19, 1949 - either from all the reportage or from the direct report to the airbase itself, by Robert Linn and Rev. Miller. Why does the Norwood Case not factor in to their investigation when, in fact, far 'lesser' cases may have been prominently addressed? If Project Grudge had sought to dismiss UFO sightings as psychological phenomena, they had a good case with the Norwood searchlight events at this stage of the situation.
Thanks

Did you know that... There have been a few UFO sightings in which the unknown object was of immense size. The Norwood unknown may be one of the very largest objects ever seen. How big was the object? Answer below after "UFO Quote of the Week."

Unidentified flying planet? SUNDAY, May 9, 2004. CADILLAC - Donna Billett of Harrietta saw the backyard and field behind her house light up like she had never before - considering it was nearly midnight and it was pitch black outside. "I was so shocked when I saw it out the bathroom window I just stood there in awe for five minutes," Billett said when the object appeared Sunday. Unidentified flying planet? The moon was not responsible for the unexplained light, even though it shone brightly in the clear sky. Instead, Billett saw another bright object in the northwest sky. Billett's son Allan McIlvain quickly came out of the house and recorded the object for about 30 minutes before it finally left their sight. He said it moved at a very fast pace. The object bounced and weaved as McIlvain attempted to film it, zooming in and out. Neither had an explanation at the time. "I thought it was lightning at first," Billett said. "It was like flipping on a light switch - the whole sky was bright." McIlvain said he has a different explanation. "I think it was a spaceship," he said. Both believed the object to be pulsing, reflecting light toward the ground. David Batch, professor at the Abrams Planetarium at Michigan State University, said the object may have been the planet Venus. "Venus is probably the most mistaken object for a UFO," Batch said. "It really attracts people's attention right now because it is so bright." Batch said there is an old story that former president Jimmy Carter once reported Venus as a UFO in his younger days. Like the object seen in Harrietta, Batch said Venus is capable of changing shapes and colors during the night and is capable of leaving the sight of viewers depending on weather conditions. In a camera, Batch said it would tend to be overexposed making it appear to look different. Batch did rule out the possibility of a comet sightings because it would be nearly impossible to get video footage as it would be too faint. Mysterious Object Caught on Film Shocked Neil Carter was putting the rubbish out in the backyard of his Sunderland home when a mysterious flashing light caught his eye. Unable to tell exactly what it might be, he rushed inside, grabbed a camera and started snapping away at the banana-shaped object. Mr Carter, 40, from Monkwearmouth, said: "At first it appeared to be very small and was bobbing up and down in the sky then it dropped down a bit and got bigger. "It was all a bit of a shock because there was nothing else in the sky and there appeared to be no explanation as to what it might be." The sighting, last Saturday at about 9.15pm, was also spotted by Mr Carter's girlfriend. It comes just weeks after amateur stargazer Alan Toon, 60, from Park Estate, Hetton, spotted two lights flashing above the sky near his home. He had also been walking outside to empty the rubbish when he noticed the mysterious object. Mr Carter is hoping other people in the area might have seen the lights and could offer him some kind of explanation as to what it might have been. The self-employed businessman from Devonshire Street, added: "I have always believed there might be other life out there - it would be a shame to think there was only us. "I really don't know exactly what it was that I saw, but I would certainly like to try and find out. To witness something like this is really very strange." Reports of unexplained objects in the Wearside skies have stretched back to the 1950s. One of the oddest was that of Gordon Brown, who spoke to the Echo in 1993 about the events of September 22, 1951, when he went to Roker Park for Sunderland's clash with Portsmouth. Despite being among thousands of potential witnesses, soldier Gordon struggled to find anyone else to back up his story. He was standing in the Fulwell End when a man in front of him pointed at something in the sky, a small object shaped like a child's spinning top about 20,000ft up, which hovered above the ground for about half an hour. In 1996, a strange craft was seen over Hendon, emitting bright yellow rays from its cloud-like centre. A bumper crop of sightings emerged in August and September 1988, with UFOs spotted over Marsden Grotto, Sunderland and County Durham. source: http://www.sunderlandtoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=1107&ArticleID=786724

ELSMERE – The witness was walking to his car at midnight when he turned to his left and over the trees from Vilone Park flew a wing shaped flying object on April 21, 2004. It looked like it had the wingspan of a B-52H and it had a solid non blinking red light underneath. The witness states, “I turned on the FAA band on my scanner in my car and no such major cargo aircraft with that span were over Delaware Airspace at that time.” I grew up in a military family, but since I lived in MD and had been a witness to the Waldorf UFO in 2002, I am quite aware of what a UFO is and what it isn't. ST. AUGUSTINE – An hour after the above sighting a golden disk was seen to travel from north to south at a high rate of speed on April 9, 2004, at 10:15 PM. Then it slowed dramatically and seemed to land in the ocean and slowly sink below the surface. ORLANDO – An oval shaped object was seen between two jet aircraft, on April 16, 2004, at 6 PM. A gold looking oval shaped object that made no vapor trail was seen in the southwest evening sky. The sun was shinning off all three craft. The two jet aircraft kept moving to north. The sky was clear of clouds and the object was visible for about 60 seconds. ((NUFORC Note: We spoke via telephone with this witness, and found him to be exceptionally objective and eloquent in his description of the object. He seemed quite credible to us. He is a federal public employee, and occupies a position in the government requiring considerable technical acumen, and high reliability. PD))

MT. WASHINGTON -- On April 18, 2004, at 7 PM, a strange shape with lots of color was over us for about thirty minutes. We watched and were shocked as it changed shape, it flew near planes but didn’t even touch them. We called some friends in another part of town and they saw it, too. It was like watching us, but it was cool and different but we still don’t know what it was. Thanks to Peter Davenport

ASHGROVE -- About 10:40 PM, on April 16, 2004, the witness saw a triangle shaped moving object dart up and down and from side to side. It had a white light in the center, with a red light on the front, and two blue lights on the back. At arm’s length it was about the size of a half dime. The light continued to blink or flash throughout the time we watched. The center light was about the size of a cigarette and the craft stayed at about the same height, when not "bouncing" until it faded from sight 27 minutes later. It stood on end so we could see all four lights at the same time. We saw two commercial jets fly to the west of it. Thanks to Peter Davenport

JACKSON -- Lisa McDaniel writes, “I was checking the WAPT-TV weather cam and saw this UFO! I had saved the two pictures but unfortunately you can't do that with a web cam shot without it automatically refreshing itself; at least not this web cam.” I have already contacted the station to see if they have the still shots by any chance. At any rate, at 12:15 p.m. central/standard time, May 3rd 2004, there was a silver disk over Jackson, MS, just to the left of the Standard Life Building (the tallest building in the picture) and about midway up. I'm just really disappointed about this! In both of the pictures, however, the second one was dated 12:21 p.m., so just minutes later...and it was GONE! It is a gorgeous, sunny, clear day and not a cloud in the sky and no rain whatsoever! Thanks to Lisa McDaniel

PHOENIX – A large white saucer-type aircraft was spotted hovering at 9:30 PM, for several minutes and then disappeared on April 17, 2004. The witness states, “My grown daughter and I saw one oblong saucer-like aircraft hovering in the sky giving off a very bright white glow that appeared to have smaller white lights around the outer perimeter. It was distinctly NOT an airplane or blimp. It appeared to turn sideways after a few moments which made the profile a slender oval in the sky and then it disappeared. We both could not believe our eyes as we watched. PHOENIX -- At 10 AM, I heard my neighbor knocking on my window When I went out side I saw a white cigar like object in the sky it was hard to look at because it was so close to the sun on April 18, 2004. source: Filer's Files

MERCED -- The witness was driving north on I-5, with his parents and around 12:30 AM, on April 14, 2004, they noticed an odd pair of lights. He states, "I first noticed it when the object was vertical with only two corners visible like viewing a triangular block from the side." The small triangular object had round circular and cycled lights on three corners. To visualize one set of lights, imagine a cross section of a pipe with many lights making the circle. These lights alternated like Christmas lights and looked like the electricity was moving through them. It hovered over the highway for maybe 30 seconds and quickly sped off behind the overpass. As I approached the overpass it flew speeding back over the highway and hovered very low. It actually passed right in front of my car twice and then hovered off to the left and shined a light right at me from the right hand side. This light came from one of the sides, not from one of the corners of the object as I drove 80 mph. I saw it for probably close to a minute or two total but it seems longer. It was 3 to 5 feet in length and definitely not wider than my Civic. However it had great agility and speed and it was silent. MODESTO – R. David Anderson writes, “I took this picture on Friday evening, April 20, 2004, as I was sitting in the backyard with my new digital camera ready with telephoto lens. A high flying airplane, making no sound, attracted my attention, and I began to snap pictures. When I downloaded the pictures, I found these strange objects which appear to be skirting the plane. Tonight, after taking these pictures, a military plane was flying real low over my house, making circles several times overhead before moving off to the West. It was so close it shook our house and frightened us. Thanks to R. David Anderson Puppysonny1 source: Filer's Files

May 9, 2004. 2340 local. A lone witness watched five, slow-moving bright lights in the night sky
approach from different directions, converging to form a straight line.
They then moved together as one object, flying low above the tree tops at
an estimated altitude of 50 meters. After about 45 seconds, the lights
disappeared. No sound was heard. Investigation pending.

CHURCHBRIDGE, Saskatchewan.-- My stepson and wife were driving down the grid road 9 km east of Yorkton when we saw what looked like an oddly shaped fighter jet coming at us fairly low to the road at 1:30 PM, on April 20, 2004. We yielded basically in stunned fashion when the object seemed so slow, almost to a halt, 20 feet in front of our Suburban. The object was a black triangle with no apparent windows and on the bottom was one large light in each of the three corners. It rotated so a different angle was facing forward and took off in a blur over top of our car. It was as if the object went straight up once it came to view and vanished into the sky.

CANCUN – A couple was looking at the Gulf of Mexico from their balcony at the Hotel Riu Cancun at 2 AM, on April 20, 2004 and saw a flying triangle hovering and illuminating the night sky. The distance was hard to determine but I could hear the sound of it breaking the wind. We stood there in amazement as the object darted into the clouds and then it faded away. They ran to tell their friends across the hallway and they all ran out to their balcony to see if it could be seen again. After a couple of minutes we spotted it again, but not as close as the initial sighting, now it appeared as an illuminating circular object. It seemed more energetic then before because it was speeding left to right zigzagging in out of the clouds. It maneuvered in the sky for a good hour.

EDINBURGH -- At 1:05 AM on Wednesday 21st of April, I was standing outside my house having a cigarette looking to the north eastern sky from my home town Livingston, when I saw two dots of lights suddenly shoot downward from the cloudy sky. They were moving at an incredible speed and they were keeping almost the same distance running parallel to each other. They turned sharply and came parallel to the horizon and went on for a couple of seconds, during which they both took another short dive and came back level again. From there, they seemed to shoot back up into the sky and vanished back above the clouds and there was no sound at all! I have never seen anything move that fast in my life. While no one among the thousands of Cincinnatians, including the experts, who saw the object, could guess its identity, Harry Mayo of the Post wrote a feature article April 6, 1950 under the headline, "What Glows on Here? Norwood Muses". At the close of the article, Mayo wrote, "Dr. D. A. Wells, professor of physics at the University of Cincinnati, and Paul Herget, U.C. professor of astronomy, took a look. Said Dr. Wells: 'In my opinion its an optical illusion'. Said Prof. Herget, 'It's not a fake. I believe it may be caused by the illumination of gas in the atmosphere. We need an explanation to squash people's fears.'
Cincinnati Post
|
But as I have since learned, Herget's words, "We need an explanation to squash people's fears' were closer to the truth than his guess about the gas. While I cannot publish Herget's exclamation while he viewed the object on December 20, 1949 because of a confidence entrusted me, I can say that Herget's reactions and utterances indicated anything but indifference. Nor can I publish, for the same confidence, the actions and behind-scenes maneuvers of Dr. Wells which are veritable guideposts pointing to and confirming some of my conclusions toward saucer secrecy. I can say, however, that Dr. Wells, was there with camera and protractors and was in frequent hush-hush huddles with two 0SI members also present. Computations of the object's size were made and then confirmed by Dr. Wells. Like something out of Gulliver's Travels, the size was approximated to be 10,000 feet in diameter.
