UFO Snapper Defends Spaceship Photo

The Derry, Prehen, UK Photograph-
Photograph-The mobile phone camera which captured the UFO
Published Date: 14 May 2008
By Julieann Campbell
As speculation still surrounds the mysterious flying object spotted in the Derry skies last week, local man Michael Harkin speaks to the 'Journal' about his photograph and why this particular X-File has sparked global interest.
Michael Harkin, from Ederowen Park in the Galliagh area, still insists that he saw something strange hovering overhead while driving through Prehen last Tuesday.
"I'm not a big believer in flying saucers, but I suddenly saw it out the window as we came over the hill and screamed to Catriona, who was driving, to stop the car. We slowed down and were literally crawling along the road at about 20 miles per hour when I took the photo and by the time I had taken the photo and the car had stopped, it was gone.
"We must have only seen it for about ten seconds at the most before it disappeared, so we were actually really lucky to get that one photograph."
Websites and UFO forums all over the world have since picked up on Derry's UFO, and Michael says he will be replying to every response with details and co-ordinates of the exact spot.
On whether the photograph could be an elaborate hoax, 32-year-old Michael says: "To begin with, I wondered if it was some sort of helium balloon, but it was far too big. It definitely wasn't the tax disc on Catriona's car either, as that is still there, further down near the bottom of the window. Even though we saw it, I suppose it could have been a model space ship or something similar but it was just so big. It was definitely outside the car and way above us - I just knew it wasn't normal and that's why we stopped the car."
Michael says he and the car's driver, Catriona Horner, have been overwhelmed at the interest the photograph has generated.
"We're amazed that so many people seem interested in it. We only sent it into the 'Journal' because it was so unusual. Catriona has been defending what we saw too, she wants people to know that it's definitely not Photoshopped and the actual photo saved on my mobile phone is no different to the one I sent to the paper."
So does Michael believe that the truth really is 'out there'?
"I'm still a sceptic I suppose, but it was just so massive I don't know what to think."

Fond du Lac Area is Hot Spot for UFO Activity
|
By Heather Stanek
The Reporter hstanek@fdlreporter.com
Photograph-An “alien” in a jar is just one of the many UFO/alien-themed items decorating Bill Benson’s bar at Benson’s Holiday Hide-a-Way, N4241 Boy Scout Drive, town of Osceola. The Reporter photo by Patrick Flood
Posted May 12, 2008-It's just a weather balloon. Or is it?
Several Fond du Lac area residents aren't surprised that Long Lake, located near Dundee, was recently named the top UFO hotspot in Wisconsin. The area is notorious for strange lights and objects, plus an occasional crop circle.
Some people say they've even had close encounters in the region.
Noah Voss, a paranormal researcher from Sun Prairie, compiled the UFO list after years of research. He said he's traveled to Long Lake numerous times to learn the region's history and speak with citizens. He has seen UFOs over the lake, which he describes in "UFO Wisconsin: A Progress Report." The book hit store shelves in late April.
Voss said his book discusses UFOs but neither confirms nor denies the existence of aliens. He said he approaches everything with a critical eye and doesn't draw conclusions without hard evidence.
"People can sit and read (the book) as a novel or take it along (on a trip) as a road guide," he said.
Orbs, pyramids
Bill Benson, owner of Benson's Holiday Hide-a-Way, doesn't deny that something fishy is going on over Long Lake. He said he has seen many UFOs and heard stories from patrons.
He said he's noticed multiple lights floating overhead. He once saw orange orbs fly through the rain and enter the clouds.
Bonnie Meyer of Neenah said she's seen balls of light over Long Lake. Some were gold, green and blue. She also saw a UFO that looked like two pyramids stuck together.
"It was beautiful, just beautiful," she recalled.
One Y-shaped UFO flew in low, added Meyer. It made no sound.
"If I had a good arm, I could have hit it with a rock," she said.
Bob Kuehn, 77, of Fond du Lac, said he's seen many flashing lights above Long Lake.
"It's not new to me," he said. "That's been going on for over 60 years."
Or maybe longer.
Benson said history shows that even the Native Americans had unusual experiences near Long Lake and Dundee Mountain.
"They called it 'Spirit Hill,'" he said. "There's been strange things forever out here."
People don't have to look up to see oddities. Crop circles were reported in an oat field in the late 1940s. Another circle appeared in some cattails in 1995, he said.
"It looked like South America from the air," he said.
UFOs have become such a popular topic that Benson's business, located at N4241 Boy Scout Drive, Campbellsport, started hosting UFO Daze with Kuehn. The celebration, which marks its 20th anniversary this July, attracts hundreds of people, some from other countries, including New Zealand.
"People can come and share their experiences without being laughed at or scoffed at," he said.
Close encounters
Meyer said she used to dole out such ridicule.
"In 1974, my best friend got involved in UFOs, and I thought she was off her rocker," she recalled.
Meyer did all she could to prove her friend wrong — until a camping trip in 1976 changed her perspective. She said she was on a road near New London when a round, silver craft landed. She said an alien walked out and invited her to his ship. He was about 5-feet, 2-inches tall and was wearing a silver suit and helmet, she said.
The ship flew through space for a short while the alien communicated with her telepathically, she said. He told her that aliens, at least the good kind, feared for humanity because of violence and greed.
Since then, Meyer said she's met several friendly aliens. One of her favorites, she said, was a 7-foot-tall alien that resembled a large bird. He had an eagle's head, a soft blue down and paws with talons.
"He was the most compassionate being I have ever met," she said.
Meyer noted that she's never been afraid because the aliens were kind.
"We're at a point where we could destroy ourselves or become more spiritual," she recalled one saying. "They don't want that to happen."
Kuehn says he's also communicated with religious aliens. One that he's encountered is even a Christian, he said. Ezeata, an alien from the Plaidian star system, has communicated with him telepathically for about 10 years, he said.
He added that Ezeata visits Long Lake occasionally, even though the journey takes about 500 light years.
"She calls me 'Bobby,'" he said. "No one calls me that."
Kuehn said his encounters date back to when he was about 4 years old. At the time, he lived in Lomira. One night, the front of his bed lifted off the floor, and he floated out the window, he said. He has no memory of what happened afterward.
"For a certain reason, they picked me up, and I don't know why," he said.
Kuehn added that he later developed telepathy and one day felt a strange object in his left ear lobe. He thought it was a chip but was afraid to go to the doctor.
He said the chip was gone when he went to remove it.
Kuehn founded UFO Daze to let people discuss their encounters and sightings. The event ends with people sitting outside, watching Long Lake for glowing objects.
"They know what's going on," he said. "They know we're out there looking for them."
Meyer said she's been attacked by skeptics and knows others who've been criticized. So she helped found The Lightside, a UFO study group that draws members from throughout the Fox Valley.
The organization meets from 1 to 4 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month at Goodwill in Oshkosh. Anyone is welcome to learn more about UFOs, share their stories or discuss sightings without fear of ridicule.
Meyer said she does understand why people would be critical.
"I was in their shoes at one time," she said. "Once you see it and realize it, you can't go back to non-believing."

Phoenix Mars Rover to Land on May 25
|
Will Phoenix Mars Rover Disappear Like the Last Mars Polar Lander?
What happened to Polar Lander, the last Mars rover that NASA tried to land in the Martian polar region, where it hopes that the Phoenix rover will touch down on May 25? The mysterious fate of the lander that simply disappeared moments before reaching Mars has been the subject of both scientific and UFO-logy debates. Was it shot down by angry Martians dwelling at the pole? Did it encounter some strange magnetic phenomenon that disabled it? Or did it just malfunction? We may soon find out.
Phoenix, an even more badass version of the current Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity, will hit the Martian north pole. (Sadly, it can't look for the dead Polar Lander, because that rover was headed for the South Pole.) If all goes as planned, it will immediately dig into the icy tundra and take samples to see what the deal is with all that ice. Could it be turned into potable water for future colonists?
To make sure nothing goes wrong with the landing — or at least to see what the hell happened if it does — three Earth-controlled satellites orbiting Mars will be watching Phoenix's descent into the ice. According to Discovery News:
Mars Odyssey will relay the descent and landing live, or what passes for live when the action takes place 171.5 million miles away. At that distance, radio signals traveling at the speed of light take 15.3 minutes to reach Earth. By the time flight controllers know if Phoenix began the descent through the planet's atmosphere, it should have already landed.
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Europe's Mars Express are the backups. They will record signals from Phoenix during the descent and landing which can be relayed to Earth for later analysis.
You will be able to watch live satellite feeds from the Mars landing at the NASA website — well, what passes for live given the time lag. So frakkin cool.

Astronauts: There Must be Life in Space
|
TOKYO (AFP) — The human race will find life elsewhere in the universe as it pushes ahead with space exploration, astronauts back from the latest US space mission said Monday.
"If we push back boundaries far enough, I'm sure eventually we'll find something out there," said Mike Foreman, a mission specialist on the Endeavour, which returned to Earth in March.
"Maybe not as evolved as we are, but it's hard to believe that there is not life somewhere else in this great universe," he told a news conference in Tokyo.
The crew members on the 16-day Endeavour mission, which included a Japanese astronaut, said that so far they have not seen anything inexplicable or mysterious in terms of other life forms.
"I personally believe that we are going to find something that we can't explain," said another astronaut, Gregory Johnson.
"There is probably something out there but I've never seen it," he said.
Dominic Gorie, the crew commander and veteran of four space flights, pointed out that explorers in past eras did not know what they would find before setting off across the ocean.
"As we travel in the space, we don't know what we'll find. That's the beauty of what we do. I hope that someday we'll find what we don't understand."
But it could take a while before human beings come into contact with extraterrestrial life, Richard Linnehan, a fellow mission specialist and believer in the possibilities of extraterrestrial life, told the news conference.
"Unfortunately we are taking only baby steps in outer space efforts and we left our planet barely a few hundred miles above the atmosphere," he said.
The latest hitch-free Endeavour mission went to the International Space Station, carrying part of Japan's first space laboratory along with a Canadian repair robot.
Foreman described the Japanese laboratory -- named "Kibo," or "hope" -- as smelling like a "new car."
Takao Doi, the Japanese astronaut on the Endeavour mission, agreed "life like us must exist" elsewhere in the universe.
The comments come after a surprisingly high-level debate in Japan about UFOs.
Nobutaka Machimura, the number two in government, said in December that he personally believed aliens existed, in an unusual rebuttal to a government statement that Japan had no knowledge of UFOs.
Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba went as far as to say that he was studying the legal ramifications of responding to an alien attack in light of Japan's post-World War II pacifist constitution.

UFOs Over Piura, Peru
|
Inexplicata-The Journal of Hispanic Ufology
May 5, 2008-Some residents of Piura believe that we are not the only ones in the universe, but sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) are no longer strange. A Piuran attorney was terrified when he felt the phenomenon’s murmurs.
PIURA – Those who delight in speaking of aliens may calmly be considered insane. It has even been observed that people have forged alleged proof in an effort to achieve notoriety, or were also part of a psychosocial phenomenon. However, this phenomenon is rampaging in our city. On April 19, a researcher from Proyecto UFO managed to pick upn an object at 11 p.m. , flashing orange and silver lights in the desert between Piura and Paita. Since 1999, the Proyecto, formed by four good friends, decided to look into these sightings. They overcame their fear of the unknown and always organize vigils for sightings. They are convinced of an alien presence during the last Aerosport Festival organized by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP). There are hundreds of videos circulating on YouTube, where we find a news report from the defunct “Hechos” publication, reporting a sighting at the Los Cocos urbanization on February 8, 1994. Is there any truth to all this? Now, attorney Luis Vazquez Coronel offers us an astonishing story, “Cerro Pilan, a UFO highway”. Terrifying.. Vazquez Coronel, who also teaches English at a renowned school, was nearly indifferent to the UFO phenomenon. When he heard Anthony Choy, former head of the Oficina de Investigacion de Fenomenons Aeroanormales (OIFA), a dependency of the FAP itself, discuss sightings in Chulucanas, he was overcome by curiosity.
To date, Vazquez Coronel has made 16 trips and is terrified by each experience. He neither makes conjectures nor indulges in guesswork – he only tells the truth as he knows it. His close encounter of the first kind occurred in July 2007. He discusses that hapless trip in his book: in the company of two friends from Piura and two other locals, he came across a weird light in the village of Palo Blanco.
“A star that made an abnormal movement,” as he describes it. Fear gripped their bodies, because this light was chasing them. Beating naysayers to the punch, Vazquez Coronel writes: “They say that these red and turquoise lights are seen around the mines, and it can’t be true, because [they] follow a definite trajectory.”
He had two unusual experiences in subsequent trips. He was able to see a vessel irradiating “luminous triangles” in the blink of an eye over Cerro Pilan. “It was shaped like a hanging parachute,” he explains. All of this is recorded in photo and video formats. The adventurers ascended the summit of Cerro Horquetudo in 10 minutes and also noted the presence of lights. Hearing echoes [in the darkness] froze their blood colder than the North Pole. It is for this reason, they say, the very few dare the ascent, out of a fear that the peak will bewitch them. “People would opine that this is insane,” we argue, and he replies: “People feel very comfortable with reality, with what they know.” Some prophets claim that the increase in sightings heralds something, but Vazquez Coronel’s testimony concludes by saying that the only thing palpable is fear.
Further information: UFO sightings follow a route that begins in Chulucanas, passes over the treeline toward Piura, reaches the Alas Peruanas Universty, the Bolognesi Bridge, flies over Santisimo Sacramento parish and ends at Cerro Azul.

Close Encounters of the Second Kind in Stratham

Eight local children in two separate incidents reported UFO encounters in the 1970s
By Dean Merchant
features@seacoastonline.com
May 12, 2008-The New Hampshire Seacoast has long been famous in UFO lore, both for the “incident at Exeter” and as the area of residence for the two most renowned “alien abductees,” Betty and Barney Hill.
Few people, though, may be aware of the incidents in Stratham, close encounters of a second kind that occurred in the 1970s during the last great UFO wave in America.
Eight Stratham children came face to face with the frightening unknown when they were confronted by mysterious aerial crafts that left behind physical trace evidence and etched indelible marks upon their memories.
The boys and Inspector Oswald
On a wintry eve in 1971, three Stratham lads fired up their racing snow machines and departed from one of the youth’s Stratham Heights Road homes.
Cutting across the Goodrich Farm fields, the boys turned onto a woods trail leading to Bunker Hill Avenue.
They tooled carefree down the trail, one on a Polaris 2-cycle Star Racer, and as they reached the vicinity of the old Sanderson Gravel Pit, looming just above and nearly touching a high power electrical line was the catalyst to heart-pounding, primal fear — a UFO.
Fleeing the apparition, the youthful trio turned and at full throttle retreated to the safety of the Heights Road home.
One of the boys’ moms, who requested anonymity, recalls, “The boys were white as sheets ... scared to death ... frightened out of their wits ... terrorized!” She adds that “these were boys who did not frighten easily.”
Arriving soon at their door was John Oswald, a NICAP (National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena) UFO investigator of local renown. Both parents remember the interview with Oswald as being eerie.
“He seemed to know what we would say before we spoke, as if he already knew what was in our minds,” they said.
The boys were so uncomfortable they fled the house and interviewer as soon as possible. Dad recalls Investigator Oswald telling them about sensors that his people had set up in New Hampshire, all of which, he said, were triggered off at the precise time of the boys’ encounter.
Peter Geremia of Rye, director of the New Hampshire chapter of MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), as well as a lecturer and UFO investigator, recalls Oswald as a dedicated researcher.
He explains that the sensors Oswald referred to were mechanical measurement devices, simple in nature and very accurate. Data collected through such research as the MADAR (Multiple Anomaly Detection and Automated Recording) project, “suggested a connection between magnetic/electromagnetic anomalies and genuine UFO events.”
John Oswald and David Webb conducted experiments in New Hampshire between November 1970 and September 1972. Oswald’s “magnet variometers” were placed at 13 detector sites. The triggering of the sensors provided physical or trace evidence that collaborated with the boys’ visual sighting.

California-Illuminated Disc

05-13-08-My 14-year-old daughter came running into the house this evening quite disturbed by something. As I spoke calmly to her she said she'd heard a faint "whirring" sound at the same time she saw a partially illuminated disk moving in an arc through the late evening sky. She later described that it was in plain view through some thin tree branches, and moved from the southwest toward the northwest.
She described the whirring sound by blowing, almost whistling, and slightly pulsating and she described the size as slightly smaller than a fifty-cent piece held at arm's length. It came into her range of view at the same moment as she heard the whirring sound and stayed in view for about five seconds before disappearing behind the nearby apartment buildings.
She showed me the spot where she stood, where it came into view, where she last saw it, and indicated its approximate speed with her hand.
I had her draw a picture of what she saw: a partially lighted disc-shaped object with lights on the glowing side on the edge in a crescent, which I hope to add to this report when I can scan it into the computer.
She stated that she didn't know what it was when she first saw it, that the darker side was almost exactly as dark as the sky, and the brighter side was clearly visible with several lights.
She was quite startled when she grasped the fact that it wasn't anything she'd ever seen before. She dashed back into the house the moment it went out of sight, and was for a moment too startled to say anything. source: www.mufon.com

Florida-Multiple UFOs
|
05-11-08-I was getting ready for bed to go to work last night when the whole house shook. I came down the stairs and saw my mother and my brother staring up at the sky. There were UFOs everywhere.
It reminded me of photos I have seen taken in Mexico City. It was a fleet of UFOs. My brother counted about 20 of them flying due west towards the Gulf of Mexico. And within moments they were gone.
I went back to bed... and tossed and turned all night. That's it. But... that's not the first time I have seen them down here. I have seen UFOs many times here in Fort Myers, Florida. source: www.mufon.com

Indiana-Triangular Object
|
05-13-08-I was playing in a park with my son. We were sliding head-first down a slide. At the bottom of the slide, we were on our backs looking at airplanes. That is when I noticed a triangular object that appeared to be tumbling through the sky... not falling but spinning or tumbling in a repetitive manner. It appeared as if there was one reflective side with the others being a more matte or non-reflective. It was hard to judge how high it was or how big it was, since the evening was clear and there were no other planes or clouds in the sky near the object. Also, there was no appearance of vapor or exhaust emitting from the object. I tracked it across the horizon until I lost sight. It maintained a straight trajectory the entire time. No apparent changes in flight path.
It appeared odd because the shape and motion that it was making-as it was flying. I noticed it because it didn't have the vapor trail of a jet and it had an intermittent reflection as the "shiny" side came into the sunlight. I was very curious to know what it was or could be, or if any one else noticed the object. source: www.mufon.com

Michigan-Round, Unknown Object
|
05-14-08-I was in my backyard, looking up at the sky. Suddenly, across the sky a round object moved northwest to southeast. It was above the clouds but could be plainly seen. It was not moving at a high rate of speed, but knew where it was going. I don't know how high the clouds were, but it was just a touch above them.
The object moved in an exact line with no wavering. The sighting lasted less then fifteen seconds, and my feelings were that I had just seen a UFO. I went into the house and then came out again. I thought that if I saw one, I might see another one, but that was not to be. I am 63 years of age, this is the first UFO I have ever seen. I would be interested if there are any reports from Kalamazoo or points southeast of Plainwell that might have seen this object. source: www.mufon.com

Michigan-Unknown Shadows Aircraft
|
05-11-08-Just after midnight on May 10-11, 2008, myself and one other witness observed a commercial aircraft flying in a southeast direction in the night sky over Lenawee County, Michigan. We were both passengers in a vehicle driving on Pawson Rd... myself in the front passenger seat, and my friend directly behind me. There was light cloud cover and the stars and moon were visible. The jet aircraft visibly flew beneath the cloud cover, or, rather, the clouds did not obscure the visible anti-collision and wingtip lights.
Another object, with no anti-collision lights nor wingtip lights, shadowed the aircraft as it flew to the southeast. It kept pace, approximately 15-20 lengths behind, and apparently at a slightly higher elevation. Both myself and my friend watched the light clouds obscure the lights of the trailing aircraft as if it were passing through them or above.
My friend had a set of binoculars and thought he could make out a double row of rectangular lights, i.e. a row on top of another, on this second object. source: www.mufon.com
