I noticed a steady white glow coming from about thirty five yards into the forest. I mentioned it to one of the guys from California. He said, "Go check it out, come back, and tell everybody you saw a UFO." I walked down the dirt road, to the other dirt road, and looked into the thick forest at the light. I thought to myself, if this is a hunter's lantern... you might step on a branch, and get your head blown off. I decided not to go any further. I walked back up the dirt road... and remembered I was supposed to tell everyone I had seen a UFO. I said I saw a UFO... and did the Twilight Zone theme. They laughed, and said, he told us he told you to say that.

It was about 3 AM or so, and they all decided to go up to the farm house and "crash" (sleep). I asked my buddy Dave, "Would you mind sticking around here for a little while with me? I never did figure out what that light was." He said, "Sure, no problem."

We both hopped up on this thing called a fruit shade, which is a sheet of corrugated tin on four wooden posts, used to shade the fruit after it is harvested. We were looking at the glow in the forest when everything became extremely quiet: no crickets, no breeze, no sound at all.

I looked up in the sky, which was clear, and off to my right at about 45 degrees, I noticed this red light moving across the sky from right to left. The light was not blinking, and did not move slowly, but not fast, kind of hypnotic. It wasn't a bright red light, but a kind of "deep red".

I said, "Hey look! What's that?"

It seemed unusual because it seemed so close but wasn't making any sound.

He looked and said, "Uh, that's just an airplane." I said, "I don't think so."

After watching it for several seconds, Dave said, "You're right, it isn't an airplane!" It then continued to move from right to left, and when it was almost in front of us, it changed into two small white lights about the same size as the red light. Then the two white lights continued to move in the same general direction, and as they were doing this they went up and away from each other in these two elongated arcs, getting larger and larger as they moved through the sky.

When they both stopped and hung in the sky for what SEEMED to be five or six seconds, they were white balls of light which illuminated the tree tops, and seemed to be about 120 yards from us. Dave got scared, and said, "I'm getting outta here!" I grabbed him by his shirt sleeve, and said, "NO! WAIT! LOOK!"

As we watched, the two spheres retraced their original trajectories, getting smaller and smaller as they did. They merged together at precisely the same location where they had first separated, and turned back into the red light again. The red light then continued back across the sky, left to right, and just went away pretty much the same subtle way as it had arrived. I had the impression that the two white spheres were PERFECTLY SPHERICAL, which I understood was a scientific impossibility.

Also at their largest, the two white spheres seemed to be about 3 and a half to about 4 feet in diameter. Dave and I were in a state of shock, and he said, "Nobody's ever gonna believe this!"

Then we described to each other what we had seen, mostly to confirm that neither of us was individually hallucinating, or just plain crazy. Then we jumped down from the fruit shade, and started to walk toward the farm house. We had completely forgotten about the original light in the forest. I remember looking down at my feet, and taking about a step and a half. It was still dark out and SEEMED to be about 10 or 15 minutes after the whole thing began.

THEN... it was 10:00 or 11:00 AM, and I was sitting by myself in a bedroom of the farmhouse on the floor. My mind was in a kind of state of shock. I could still think, walk, and talk, but it was like a subtle hypnotic trance of some kind.

I went home back to Missouri to this basement apartment I was living in, and went to bed that evening at about 11:00 PM. I was sleeping in this couch, that folds out into a bed there in the living room. What seemed several hours later, somehow I became aware of my immediate surroundings, WHILE I was still asleep (strange). From this area off to the right of the bed about 5 or 6 feet there seemed to be a transparent column of... all knowing awareness. Sorry, but that's the only way I can describe it. It asked me if I wanted to know what was in the balls of white light. I realized that "IT" knew all that had ever happened and all that would ever happen. It was no use trying to lie to it. It knew the TRUTH ANYWAY.

I said "Yes, I have been wondering about that." THEN I was about 5 feet off the floor looking down at my body sleeping in the bed. Two things I remember being aware of at that time: ONE-I was puzzled as to how I could SEE my body sleeping in the bed if my EYES were still in my body-I wondered how I could see without my eyes and TWO-I should have been terrified, but I was not. It seemed quite natural.

THEN, in an instant my awareness was turned 180 degrees to the wall across the room from the foot of the bed where I saw a ball of white light which seemed to be larger than 3 and a half feet in diameter but smaller than 4 feet in diameter. My awareness(or I) went across the room and entered the ball of white light. At that time, I experienced what was inside the ball of light. It was... well, I'll TRY to explain. There was a central area of more intense light with these very small like specks of light, many of them constantly entering and emerging from it, quite rapidly. Also, there was this kind of love and severity that I cannot describe in words.

This love that was there had a timeless quality about the whole thing, like there was no longer any such thing as the passage of time. It s seemed that the specks of light were human souls that had no individuality or gender, that were there until they were to come into new born babies at the time of their birth.

THEN this intelligence or all knowing awareness asked me if I wanted to stay or return. I knew I had to make a quick decision I wondered if my physical body might expire if I decided to stay in the ball of light and I thought my mom would be very very sad plus my physical body seemed so much more familiar to me. So, I said, "I want to return."

I then emerged from the ball of light, went back across the room and re-entered my body. I woke up at about 12:00 or 1:00 PM. I was completely certain beyond any shadow of a doubt that it had NOT been a dream, it had actually occurred. Several years later I was talking with this girl and related this experience to her and she told me that her aunt had been terminally ill in the hospital but somehow recovered. Her aunt had told her that she had almost died and that when she was closest to death a white ball of light about 3 and a half to 4 feet in diameter had appeared over by the wall of the room.

I might add that I had a flash back to the previous evening when I had seen the stuff in the sky and saw my friend Dave sitting on a stainless steel bench-like thing in his underwear just staring straight forward and seeming to be in a trance of some kind. I've seen visual re-enactments of unusual experiences on TV. I've always thought I'd REALLY, REALLY like to see THIS depicted with all the technology available today.
