Reporting on UFOs
UFO The issue of UFOs has always been one of controversy; filled with stories of cover-ups, conspiracy, hidden agenda, and above top-secret groups. This is one of the things that makes the entire study of UFOs complicated to the point of one giving up on ever getting to the truth behind all of the sightings, photographs, and videos. It is very frustrating to say the least, and it does, at times, seem like no progress is being made at all. We continue to happily receive and log reports, and post and analyze photographic and video evidence.

However, one must ask, "Will there come a time, when all of the questions will be answered by some unexpected announcement by a government spokesman?" Well...one can hope, but realistically speaking, "It ain't gonna happen." A recent article I found on the Internet is a treasure trove of background information on why the press won't engage the UFO problem, and why governments cover-up what they know.

Reporting on UFOsby Tim Swartz, is excerpted from the July, 2006 issue of Fate Magazine. This is one of those "must read" articles for all UFO students. Mr. Swartz tells us that the mainstream press still holds to the idea that UFO reports belong in the supermarket tabloids. Also, those journalists who have published well written and researched articles on the subject have been shunned by their peers. Swartz also believes that some of the old beliefs are still with us; most notably the idea that people who report UFOs are either mentally unstable, or at least uneducated.

The press still holds to the idea that UFO sightings can easily be explained away with enough research. We are told that in the late 1940s, UFOs were reported in the mainstream, that is, before they were considered taboo. The reason for this could well be that there was no answer to the UFO mystery at that time, and many reports could not be explained with the limited resources available, so to report something of this nature would just not be good journalism.

Swartz gives you a number of great examples of different cases that were overlooked because of the prejudice of the mainstream media. Also, several examples of government cover-up are cited. Even news people who have had their own experience are afraid to come forward with their information. Maybe this is why our UFO research always hits a brick wall. Someone, somewhere is controlling the information, and keeping it out of the hands of us "common folk," who don't have enough knowledge to deal with it properly. At least, this is what they think. I dare to differ.

Peru: UFO Appears over Arequipa
UFO Inexplicata-The Journal of Hispanic Ufology-July 10, 2006

A startling UFO was reportedly seen in the skies over the city of Arequipa last Sunday around 5 o'clock in the afternoon; it was recorded by an amateur cameraman.

The video displayed by Television Nacional del Peru (TNP) presents the alleged UFO in broad daylight as a brilliant white light that moves in the sky.

Following a few moments of ondulatory motion, the strange object lost itself in the sky, leaving witnesses surprised.

Readers will recall that only a few weeks ago, a local newspaper published a photo of a UFO over the Ubinas Volcano in Moquegua, taken on June 8 by Marco Antonio Zevallos, a member of the Civil Defense Regional Committee, allegedly showing a UFO.

Russian Cameraman Records Flight of UFO
UFO
An unidentified flying object has appeared over the Yeysk Spit (Krasnodar region of Russia). According to the Russian Center TV station, inexplicable phenomena have occurred in Krasnodar Territory before, for instance, circles in fields that were allegedly not made by humans. But now the channel claims it has irrefutable evidence of non-human activity as a professional cameraman has recorded the appearance of a UFO over Yeysk.

Local cameraman Aleksey Khoroshaylo visits the shore of the Taganrogskiy Bay regularly. The Yeysk Spit is a traditional location for weddings. On that day Aleksey arrived to film the visit of a newlywed couple.

“We came here to film the newlyweds as they drove in. Our driver then says to me: Look, there is a hovercraft. I took my camera, looked at it in a close-up and saw that this could not be a hovercraft because it was too high above the horizon,” Aleksey said.

The video recording made by Center TV lasts for 53 seconds. The tape shows a disc-shaped object moving above the sea at a distance of about four kilometers from the shore. Then a flash appears in the centre and a point of light separates and moves into the skies along a bow-shaped trajectory.

Experts have viewed the tape dozens of times trying to compare the object with a ship or a plane. They have even called the military with inquiries and have received the definite reply that no tests had been held in the bay on that day.

Yuriy Stroganov, head of a local TV company, and a member of the international organization MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) carefully examined the video and concluded that “the object itself, its movements, especially those mimicking a falling leaf — the shaking from side to side — are internationally known UFO characteristics”.

Stroganov plans to send this footage the U.S. He expressed his hope that an American specialist would try to determine the origin of the object.

Fresh investigation into 1966 Wilmslow UFO Case
UFO A FRESH investigation has begun into the sighting of an unidentified flying object over Wilmslow 30 years ago. Researchers are going through files from 1966 when the “craft” was spotted by a policeman behind Hoopers on Alderley Road. The close encounter was by PC Colin Perks who saw the image with his own eyes while on duty in the town centre. In his report afterwards he says he was checking the back door of a shop at 4.10am on January 7. At the time he heard a “high pitched whine” and when he turned to look over the car park behind he saw “a solid looking object, stationary, some 35 feet above the grass of the meadow beyond the car park and about 100 yards from where he stood.

“The upper surfaces glowed steadily with a greenish grey colour, a glow that did not hide the definite shape of the object.”

The policeman compared the image size with that of a bus estimating the UFO had a diameter of 30 feet for the base. He said after about five seconds it moved off in an east, south east direction with no change of sound and then disappeared. A full report was published in the Flying Saucer Review which is the leading and longest established international journal dealing with UFOs and similar encounters and a published case study tells of a “strikingly similar” sighting a year later in Streatham. Now files are being updated and researchers want to interview PC Colin Perks for verbal evidence and to contact anyone who might have experienced mysterious goings on during the same night.

Derrick Wood, 74, of Sale, a retired safety consultant, who says he has a keen interest in UFOs said another witness had come forward since the sighting.

“There is to be a website set up so that people can give evidence about this and other sightings which have been recorded in the past.

“Someone has been to see the policeman in the case of the sighting in Wilmslow in 1966 and an investigation is going on to find out if there are other witnesses.”

He is hoping memories will be jogged and wants any flashbacks to be recorded in full detail. There are no records of the sighting at the Wilmslow Express archive.

Recent Sightings in La Joya, Spain
UFO
Inexplicata-The Journal of Hispanic Ufology-July 7, 2006

Date: July 3, 2006

ANTEQUERA - Ufologists study the proliferation of sightings in southern Torcal; theories aimed at explaining sightings in the region range from aircraft and weather balloons to aliens and temporal doorways.

"I was returning from seeing my girlfriend and decided to step aside from the road and take a shortcut through the fields. That's when it showed up. It was like a car with four powerful headlights, but it flew only a few meters over the ground." This is the eyewitness account given by Juan Arrabal, an electrician from the region of La Joya, Antequera, and is at least one of a dozen gathered by this newspaper in a rural district located on the slopes of Torcal. There, ufologists are looking into the recent proliferation of so-called UFO sightings in the area. His friend Antonio Vazquez ratifies the story. "I was with him. It's true, it was like the front part of a car, and I can tell you that a vehicle cannot transit through that area," he says. "It traveled at some 30 or 4o meters over the ground."

Pedro Martin Gomez's experience begins on Cerro de las Cabañas, near Acebuche, and also in La Joya. This resident of La Joya saw two lights that remained motionless for at least two hours. It happened one summer night while he walked. Something similar happened to Jose Maria Martin, another resident -- this construction worker, married with children, was able to see a ceaseless coming and going of lights, criss-crossing their paths for hours, while hunting ferrets.

Luis Mariano Fernandez has researched phenomena in La Joya for many years. "I was traveling through the vicinity of Los Navazos around 3 a.m. when three lights forming a triangle suddenly appeared. We didn't see a structure, nor any iron or metalwork, and they moved slowly," he adds. "It was a UFO, for sure," remark witnesses.

Argentina: Cattle Mutilation in La Pampa
UFO
Inexplicata-The Journal of Hispanic Ufology-July 11, 2006

In late June 2006 on the edge of Provincial Route No. 7 (km 158) in the jurisdiction of Colonia Ines y Carlota, some 50 km NE of Santa Rosa, La Pampa, 5 bovines were found dead, presenting clear signs of mutilation.

The time of death had been estimated at some 15 days and the carcasses showed signs of missing udders, ears and tongues; incisions in the genital region were also reported.

The animals were predominantly black Aberdeen Angus and Shorton cattle with an approximate weight of 300 kg. The discovery of elements with these characteristics, albeit sporadically, is proof of the phenomenon's continuity. At the same time, the lack of elements of discernment have kept a formal complaint from being brought to the authorities.

The need to "distance oneself" from these animals arises from the possible impact on the cattle rancher's livelihood, since potential livestock buyers are reluctant to make purchases from estates on which mutilation episodes have occurred.

Staffordshire Mini UFO Flap August 2004
Staffordshire video frame grab, 8th August 2004

For those who remember August 2004 in the UK, you'll recall it was cool, wet and thundery, but for Staffordshire UFO Group it was an eventful time. From the start of that month we had been made aware of a sighting by a retired RAF Engineer of an orange ball of light late one night in the area of Cannock. Events took a sudden turn on Saturday 7th when a call was received again from Cannock at 9:55pm. The witness described an orange ball of light seen at around 9:40pm which was silent and stationary with an unusual triangular shaped pattern in its centre. The object hung in the sky for several seconds before shooting away at high speed. The following day more reports came in describing a similar object either shooting across the sky or remaining stationary for short periods.

Now statements have been analysed, it is now possible to ascertain that the first sighting occurred in Perton near Wolverhampton at 4:20pm where video footage was taken of 6 silver objects high in the sky in two 'V' shaped formations. Analysis of this footage indicates that the objects are not wind borne with some unusual anomalies that are still being analysed. The second report comes from Shenstone at 5.45pm (again in daylight) of a bluey/white light. Subsequent reports were received from Stafford and Millford of an orange ball of light at around 9:20pm. A photograph was taken at Shugborough Hall showing a curious orb of which the photographer was unaware. Sightings of this orange ball of light often described as having something at its centre were then seen between Stafford and Cannock and later in the areas of Shenstone and Lichfield up until the early hours of the 8th August where again video footage was taken at 2am on the 8th .

The strangest thing about these sightings is the shear number of reports that were received, not just from the night time but daytime also. In addition, two independent video recordings were made of both the daytime objects and the orange ball of light. Also two individual photographs were taken, one from Millford, the other in Shenstone.

In conclusion and notwithstanding the fact that research is incomplete, the sightings have proved beyond any shadow of doubt that people were witnessing something. The photo and video footage will never prove that the objects witnessed were extraterrestrial but the body of witness testimony adds credence to the evidence surrounding the facts: 'something did happen, something was photographed' The whole observation took only about 5 seconds. The witness got a very weird feeling! The UFO either flew backward, or zoomed up to space. Vladimir thought that the object probably slowed its motion and like braked at the moment when it flashed so brightly.

Arizona 2006 Lights Over Phoenix
Don Ecker Interviews Photojournalist Jeff Woolwine - Jeff filmed a rather amazing piece of footage over Phoenix on July 4, 2006. Jeff believes these lights to be "individual entities". Here at Dark Matters we're inclined to believe that this is a singular large aircraft, currently of unknown origin, that is banking to the right and pivoting on its nose. Download the video to make up your own mind. According to Jeff, the U.S. Air Force has already made a statement that these lights were nothing more than flares. This is a must hear show.

This singular event is spectacular for two reasons. A. This is the second sighting over the Phoenix area in recent history that has been captured by video. B. No one is paying attention... again. Without a doubt this is a important event and deserves more attention and research than it is currently getting. So tell everyone you know, your email list, your message board favorites, your neighbor and perfect strangers to visit the Dark Matters web site and get this footage. California Object Hovers and Moves
La Mesa -- On July 8, 2006 at approximately 2 PM, I was sitting waiting for a job interview in a break room staring out a 3rd floor window at a hilly range when I saw something shiny in the sky. It's shape and strangely bright blinking red light made me get up from my chair and rush to the window. It looked coppery and roundish and was alternating between hovering and moving in a west/east direction. The speed was unbelievable. I looked away for about 10 seconds to look around the room, wondering if I dared risk looking crazy if I involved another employee and when I looked back it had disappeared, much quicker than an aircraft could have. Thanks to Brian Vike
Florida Pilot Sees UFO
I admit the possibility that I viewed an airliner, at low altitude, as it disappeared into a cloud bank on July 7, 2006. This said, I am a high time pilot. I am familiar with illusions of flight and I found everything about this viewing experience as odd! I was turning onto a heavily trafficked road heading west. As I turned right, at a four way intersection, a bright reflection caught my attention off to my left. The object was likely 1 mile distant, to the south, at an altitude of around 4,000 feet. I think it was heading west. I thought the object was unusually bright, even compared to an airliner with a completely unpainted surface; the light was sparkling.

I also had difficulty focusing on the craft as I tried to determine what was so peculiar about what I was seeing. I kept an eye on the craft for about 10 seconds. I was so momentarily distracted, because of the traffic, that when I looked back within seconds the craft disappeared. It didn't appear to be traveling at a speed that would have hidden it in a cloud bank at the moment that I was distracted. It was as if it blinked out of view! Another oddity was that its relationship to the local airport was not consistent with normal arriving and departing flights. It was too large to be an over flight. It was the size of the craft that made me think airliner, but all other indications seemed other than an airliner. I continued looking back in the direction of the craft for a considerable amount of time without a recurring sighting. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Illinois Black Triangle
Chicago -- I was flying to Minneapolis from southeast on June 6, 2006, and looking out of the airplane window and spotted a black triangle. The object was flat black in color , very large (best est.300-400 yards long) and featureless. It remained still in the top of a cloud. I had feelings of disbelief , awe, and strangely, very calm. I lost sight of the object when the plane finally flew past the object. Thanks to MUFON CMS
Iowa Small Light Tube
My dog has a habit of wanting to take a quick turn outside in the middle of the night, so when he awoke me at about 2:30 this morning, I took him out. His run opens out from the back of the garage, so all I had to do was open the door, and out he went. He does not run loose. I stood waiting on him when I noticed a quick flash of light up on the hill south of my house near my storage shed up there. The yard lights do not reach up that far, and it was pitch black where the light occurred. It was two large fireflies. I kept watching, and in a few seconds it appeared again, only down the hill a bit toward the house.

It was a solid light about a foot high, and perhaps an inch across. It flashed on about a second or two, then off, as before. It was moving down the hill 10 feet at a time, and about 5 or 6 feet off the ground. This same thing happened 6 or 7 times until it was about 15 feet from the house, when it turned to the right of me, and took off into the woods. It flashed once as it turned, then I didn’t see it again. I have heard of rods, but their descriptions seem somewhat different. I noticed its path was almost in a straight line and did not waver. My dog did not give any indication of anything unusual and there was no sound. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Nebraska Witness Reports Unusual Lights
Lincoln -- My fiance and I were going for a ride on his motorcycle on July 1, 2006, between 11:00 PM -12:00 AM. We were around the eastern part of Nebraska Highway 2. Of course, as it is the month of July, and even if city regulations are against it, people were shooting off fireworks. Every now and then we'd see one, and give a glance. Well, my fiance happened to see this one, but I wasn't looking. By the time I looked in the direction he stated, there was nothing but the shape of smoke from where the flashes of fireworks faded out, when multiple flashes of light caught my eye.

These flashing lights were different from aircraft. The object or objects didn't seem to be getting any closer. It was like someone shooting off one of those fountain spray fireworks, that just kept blinking. It sounded sort of like a really low flying airplane. Thanks to Brian Vike HBCC UFO Research

Pennsylvania Strange Sighting
Lancaster— Monarca Lynn writes, "I wanted to let you know I had a VERY strange "daylight" sighting yesterday, July 7, 2006, at about 1 p.m. on Route 272. It was a "Black Airplane" with no windows and with a round disk upright on the tail of the upper tail wing.

As a researcher, I have never heard or seen anything like this before. Have you? It was hovering with no sound above a field. I didn't have my camera (when will I ever learn) but wanted to make a note on this just in case anyone else saw it. Here's the graphic, The plane wasn't very large ( 4 passenger, maybe smaller ).

I kept my eye on it for about 30 seconds. It hovered 10-15 ft. above the tip of that tree. Since I didn't have my camera, I became disgusted and left. It seems there is part of my brain that doesn't want to deal with such things. My friend thinks it's a spy plane with a satellite dish on the tail. That's what I think it was too. All I know is, I have never seen anything like this before. Thanks to Monarca Lynn

Tennessee - A Bright Light Zigzags Very Fast
I was over at my friend's house when we decided to go swimming late at night July, 2005, about 11 PM. After about 30 minutes of swimming we saw a very bright light rise up over the hills behind his house (about a mile away). At first we just thought it was a helicopter, but we heard no sound. Then, it started moving slowly, maybe 10 mph. It moved about 80 degrees around us keeping at about the same distance. Then it shot into the sky extremely fast and it was gone.

A few nights later, we saw another rise up from the same spot, except this one just moved back and forth in the same area then zigzagged very fast and took off just like the other. We saw a few of these do similar things. Maybe 5 total. Never any sound. One night we heard an extremely loud "roar" coming from the hills behind his house. Thanks to Brian Vike HBCC UFO Research

Canada Sightings Possible Antenna
North Delta, B. C. – On July 1, 2006 a single light, cigar shaped space craft was observed hovering for a couple hours. It was first noticed at 5 PM. At 7:30 PM, there appeared to be two or three objects in the sky, moving in swift movements, but not really going too far. The object is silver in color and one observer thought there may be an antenna dangling below it. Acceleration seemed to be the opposite of any traditional aircraft, the objects seemed to be moving slowly at first and then accelerating faster as it started to move. Incredible! It then moved in an "S" type of pattern straight up. It first appeared in the eastern sky, then moved more to the south. We had planes to compare it to during the sighting! This was NOT a plane!

Belleville -- Ontario – On July 6, 2006, around midnight, I saw a light, firstly thinking it to be a falling star but it didn't fade. Then I thought a meteor but it didn't fade either. Passing over the property it just seemed like a flat disk, colored mottled amber/orange as if the setting sun was illuminating it. There was no sun though. I couldn't tell how high it was, so I have no estimation of it's size. It traveled at a steady speed, no sound on a northerly to southerly course. As it passed over, I lost sight from a tree, so I stood and turned as it had by now passed over, and saw it again for a moment. Lost visual again completely, to see it reappear slightly and then it was gone. Thanks to Brian Vike HBCC UFO Research

Vancouver --I went on a smoke break on the rear alley entrance balcony, and my attention was immediately drawn to this "metal rod" floating in a very ominous manner, like a feather, or balloon blowing in the wind on July 5, 2006, at 4:00 - 5:00 PM. I could only comprehend this thing as a balloon until I noticed that it was very smooth and dark gray in color, and reflected the sunlight. I called for my employer to come witness this bizarre "floating rod". He watched it silently for about 2 minutes, and to my surprise, he was very startled. He then made a silly UFO joke and went back inside.

This object seemed to be over the downtown area and I watched for about three minutes as it traveled northwest, over North Vancouver. I found it quite freaky because it seemed quite fast for a balloon in the shape of a "metal rod" to move in that manner. It seemed to slow down, spiral upwards then it slowly turned and banked, in a very peculiar fashion. There were no creases, letters or numbers, or anything at all on the exterior of this "metal rod". It was simply, a shiny, metal looking cylinder, the shape of a cigarette, and it was very stiff and rigid. The more I thought about it, I began to change my mind about it being a helium or gas filled device because the strong winds at that height probably would have caused the cylinder to warp in shape. It was a completely smooth "metal rod" that floated over the city yesterday afternoon. Thanks to Brian Vike HBCC UFO Research

Italy Seven Lights in a Triangular Formation
Florence -- Looking at the sky from the roof on June 30, 2006, of a six floor palace, we saw 7 lights that seems like position light of a triangular object at 10:30 -11:00 PM. They moved slowly and silent in the night sky. After I concentrated on them, there were seven different objects in formation. They were elliptic and orange light colored, like the city lights reflected by the clouds. The sky was clear. They flew over all of Florence, Italy from east to west, and later they turned to the north. I think they were flying just a little over the hill around (400-500 meters) and they were 20 meters large. Thanks to Brian Vike HBCC UFO Research
Poland-Cigar-shaped UFO
POLAND: Cigar-shaped UFO emitting loud sounds seen over Chrzanow [06/07/06]-Chrzanow [woj.malopolskie], July 6th 2006, ~5:30 pm.

The sighting took place on July 6th 2006 in Chrzanow [woj.malopolskie] at about 17:30. A cigar-shaped, gapless object in size of two airplanes flew slowly over a housing estate in the city. The object was flying at an altitude about 1000 m. Loud sounds resembling sounds of a working engine were coming from the object. The moving UFO craft didn't leave any emission trails etc. The object disappeared from sight slowly floating away. The sighting lasted about 10 minutes. -Source: NPN © - http://www.npn.ehost.pl, by: Piotr Cielebias: NOL - Eastern European UFO Journal © 08/07/06, [http://nol-polishufojournal.blogspot.com], e-mail: jtu@vp.pl

UK Object Comprised Of At Least Two Parts
Alexandra Palace, London -- I was reminded has a large radio mast, and that may have some bearing. OK, to what I observed. High in the sky, an object comprised of at least two parts appeared to languidly move across my plane of vision on June 24, 2006, at 1 PM, It seemed to be one vertical cylindrical object with a silver colored sphere attached to it, but which moved in regular motion and time from the bottom of the cylinder to the top. The cylinder stayed at the side of the object, giving the appearance of sliding up and down the cylinder evenly. Before it eventually disappeared out of view, two aircraft, one near, and one distant came into view that gave me a reference for whatever it was I was watching, so I estimate it was very high and relatively large.

Huddersfield, England -- On July 3, 2006, at approx. 7:15 PM, I looked up from my window and noticed a faint dark object, at the very limit of my vision. It was moving in a north westerly direction at some considerable speed.

Ukraine UFO Sighting
Simferopol -- Dr. Anton A. Anfalov PhD, writes: I want to report another recent authentic UFO observation over Crimea. On Thursday, July 6, 2006, at about 11 PM, Vladimir A. Belozyerov, while being outside of his house in the yard (the old center of Simferopol), glanced at sky to northeast and suddenly noticed the moving shining object - the source of white light below the constellation of Cassiopeia. At first, the witness thought that the object is mere satellite, but in several seconds -WOW! - UUPS!- the object emitted very bright flash of the neon-white light, then made a sharp U-shaped turn -the evident maneuver, and disappeared from sight to the up. The whole observation took only about 5 seconds. The witness got a very weird feeling! The UFO either flew backward, or zoomed up to space. Vladimir thought that the object probably slowed its motion and like braked at the moment when it flashed so brightly.
