British UFO Sightings at 'Bizarre' Levels
    UFO-Depiction
UFO sightings in UK this year reach 150. Reported UFO sightings are at their highest level for years - with authorities now hearing about four mysterious objects in Britain's skies every week.

    By Laura Clout

    Last Updated: 1:03AM BST 09 Aug 2008

So far this year 150 apparent 'flying saucers' have been reported to police, military bases and the Ministry of Defence, compared to just 135 for the whole of 2007, and 97 the year before.

The figures, released after a request under the Freedom of Information Act, suggest that 2008 will be a bumper year for alien activity.

Malcolm Robinson, founder of the research group Strange Phenomena Investigations said: "Something really bizarre is happening in the skies over the UK.

"I've been dealing in sightings for 30 years and we currently have something very real which mankind cannot explain."

A spokesman for the MoD said as long as sightings presented no threat to British airspace, they were not investigated further. The MoD remained 'open-minded' about aliens, he added.

Earlier this summer, recent sightings were plotted on a map of Britain. They stretched from Liverpool to Dover and from Llanelli to Derby.

Among mysterious flying objects spotted in recent months was a 'glowing' disc spotted above the M5 motorway.

Royal Navy aircraft engineer Michael Madden said he watched the UFO for three minutes before it 'zoomed off' near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

Earlier, in Basingstoke, witnesses claimed to have seen a fleet of 12 orange objects in the night sky for half an hour.

And in St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan a police helicopter crew gave chase to another UFO after it appeared to veer at speed towards their aircraft.

One UFO spotter however was left red-faced after his report of a mysterious flying saucer in South Wales turned out to be nothing more other-worldly than the moon.

    X-File Odysseys and UFO Adventures
    Nazca Lines
    By Stephen Regenold July 23, 2008 12:00am

THE UFO stories started out simply enough. A craft hovering at high altitude. Strange lights. Lasers. A disc glowing far above in the Nevada sky.

Then DeWayne Davis, a retired Air Force engineer, dished dirt on a particularly revealing saucer sighting. According to him, "It emitted an orange sodium-vapour colour, not the xenon glow you'd usually see."

I was sitting at a bar in Rachel, Nevada, a trailer park town two hours north of Las Vegas. Outside, past the big sign featuring an alien face, Nevada State Route 375 - aka the Extraterrestrial Highway - traced north to cross an expanse as desolate as the dark side of the moon.

In the inky night sky above Rachel, where stars pack dense on a black dome, more UFOs are sighted than at any other place on the planet. Or so says the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

Extraterrestrial tourism is a minor force in the travel industry, with gift shops, tours and alien-themed establishments bringing visitors to dusty towns like Rachel or Roswell, in the US state of New Mexico.

It's a trade built on government deceptions and glowing discs, with layperson testimonials, small-budget museums and self-published pamphlets directed at suckers and truth-seekers - depending on your view.

But travelling to see a saucer crash site or an alien-themed attraction is also an excuse to visit some of the strangest places on the planet. And, in some cases, speak with some of the strangest people.

Take Wyoming's Devils Tower National Monument, for example. This 305metre-high monolith has been associated with aliens since its cameo in Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It is indeed an otherworldly formation: a sheer-sided geologic wonder sacred to Native Americans for centuries.

"There's a power to the Tower," says Frank Sanders, owner of Devils Tower Lodge, a resort adjacent to the park. Standing eerily alone in the ranchland of Crook County, Devils Tower indeed could play the part as a waypoint in an alien rendezvous.

Not surprisingly, Close Encounters references run rampant with quests at Sanders' lodge. He once rented rooms to three friends from California who watched the Spielberg film several times, a window shade open to view the formation looming above. "They got a big kick out it."

Travel to the high desert of West Texas and you might stop to see the town of Marfa and its namesake "Marfa Lights". The unexplained phenomenon features dancing orbs and glowing balls that are purported to appear in pairs or groups against the night sky.

With sightings recorded as early as the mid-1800s, Marfa brings tourists to gape after dark at the scrubby flats around town. The city has clearly taken an interest: There's a viewing platform off Interstate 90 near Marfa and a plaque that outlines some theories on the lights' origins.

T-shirts, alien trinkets and the International UFO Museum and Research Center are attractions in Roswell, a town long famous for its association with aliens.

In July, 1947, military workers from a base in Roswell recovered material from a site purported to be the scene of a flying saucer crash. The military has long maintained the downed object to be a weather balloon. But conspiracy theories on alien autopsies and covert military operations in Roswell are among the strongest of all American alien tales.

Roswell today benefits from thousands of annual visitors who patron gift shops and events like the annual "Roswalien Experience" festival.

My trip last spring to Nevada's Extraterrestrial Highway, a two-day visit to hike in the desert and snoop for saucers at night, did not net a substantiated sighting. I did climb a hill near Area 51, the top-secret military base adjacent to the town of Rachel, and saw fighter jets breaking the sound barrier.

After dark, I drove alone on the highway, pulling over and shutting off the car on a mountain pass south of town. Military planes continued to trace in the sky, red lights and blinking dots dipping behind desert hills. I stood and looked up at the stars, hoping for the "orange sodium-vapour colour" the Air Force engineer had foretold.

The truth was out there, somewhere, maybe, unseen and high above. But that night on the Extraterrestrial Highway I wasn't yet seeing it.

Police in Scotland Swamped by Wave of UFO Sightings
    UFO-Depiction
Aug 4 2008 By Raymond Hainey

A BUNCH of balloons sparked fears at the weekend that Scotland was being invaded by aliens.

Police were swamped with phone calls from locals worried about strange lights floating over their homes.

But inquiries soon revealed that planet Earth was safe. It turned out that guests at a party in the area had been tying candles to balloons and releasing them into the sky.

Police said: "It's a game where people make a wish and release the balloons, hoping their wish will come true. We had call after call saying it was UFOs."

Cops in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, received more than a dozen calls about the "aliens" on Saturday night.

Councillor Adrian Mahoney, who represents nearby Bo'ness, said: "It's obviously good news that in this case it wasn't an alien invasion.

"It's quite funny. I'm sure most sightings of UFOs have a rational explanation like this one."

Grangemouth is part of the notorious "Falkirk Triangle", where locals have been claiming for years to have spotted flying saucers. The town is about five miles from Scotland's UFO-sighting capital, Bonnybridge.

The chief UFO spotter in Bonnybridge, Falkirk councillor Billy Buchanan, said: "I got more than a dozen phone calls myself about these balloons but the police solved the mystery very quickly.

"It is quite funny and people can be quite easily confused. But at the end of the day there is definitely an ongoing phenomenon in this area."

Billy got hooked on UFOs after spotting a strange object in the sky over Bonnybridge in the early 90s.

He has since appeared on TV more than 270 times, with crews coming from as far as Japan and Russia to interview him.

UFO expert Nick Pope, who used to investigate sightings for the Ministry of Defence, said: "We have received reports about sightings in the Bonnybridge area. I was sceptical at first and, of course, the vast majority could quickly be discounted.

"But there were a small number of credible cases, where witnesses were police officers or pilots, for example, or where movement was captured on radar."

US Show to See if Truth is out There in Wales
    UFO-Depiction
Jul 27 2008 by Katie Bodinger, Wales On Sunday

US TV makers have set a date for when they will visit the site in Wales where a mysterious UFO was spotted by police.

The unknown object, spotted by officers in a South Wales Police helicopter above RAF St Athan, in the Vale of Glamorgan, prompted a wave of extra-terrestrial excitement.

Now hit American investigative show UFO Hunters, which is shown on the History Channel, will visit Wales on August 25 to find out if the truth really is out there.

Speaking from Los Angeles, show producer Dave Peroni said they had been inundated with calls and e-mails from people who claimed to have witnessed the flying object on June 8, from as far afield as Abergavenny and Newport.

“We have been monitoring what has been going on in Wales over the summer and it has been absolutely crazy,” he said.

“We will be talking to witnesses and taking a scientific view as to what the explanation for these events would have been.

“A lot of people have come forward to tell us what they saw that night on June 8. We will be speaking to all of them when we come to visit.”

UFO Hunters, which is in its second series, will also visit parts of England where there have been sightings in recent months.

Dave said he had no doubt there was something out there.

“The experts I have interviewed in the show are very bright people,” he said. “I have talked to police officers, ex-military people that have compelling stories to tell. There’s nothing for them to gain by lying.”

Dave wants to speak to anyone who has seen UFOs to e-mail him on dave@motionpictureprod.com

The UFO seen by police flew over the Vale of Glamorgan, over Cardiff and then over the Bristol Channel. An unnamed source claimed the object was “flying saucer shaped” and could not be seen with night-vision goggles, but was clearly visible to the naked eye.

City Plans to Make UFO Site into Tourist Attraction
    Socorro, NM Depiction
Evelyn Cronce El Defensor Chieftain Reporter

Wednesday, July 30, 2008-EDITORIAL The city of Socorro has decided to turn the site of the "Socorro UFO landing" into a tourist attraction.

On April 24, 1964, Socorro police officer Lonnie Zamora and an unidentified tourist saw something land in a gully at the south end of town. Zamora had gone to the mesa when he heard a blast or a roar because he thought a building used to store explosives had blown up.

Zamora described in detail what he saw that evening: the craft, the "child-like" figures standing by it and its take-off. Since neither Zamora nor anyone else could positively identify the craft, it was classified as an unidentified flying object.

The incident was documented in El Defensor Chieftain and later on many Internet sites. At the time, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, special consultant to the U.S. Air Force for Project Bluebook, examined the site and took samples. He found the site trampled by the curious but said the impressions made by the object's feet or pods were tangible proof of the landing.

Hynek visited Socorro several times in connection with the landing, but was unable to determine what the object was. Since then, theorists have suggested a weather balloon, a helicopter, a secret government craft, an experimental lunar landing craft or, of course, an interplanetary vehicle.

The site is currently on land owned by the Richardson Trust Fund. Katherine Richardson, owner of the Water and Ice Store, said the family is anxious to work with the city to develop the site as a tourist attraction.

The site can be accessed by a rough dirt road, formerly known as "H" Street, just north of the Socorro Baptist Temple. In the gully are four rock circles said to mark the four impressions made by the object's feet where it landed.

Socorro Police Chief Lawrence Romero put a pink flag at one of the rock circles to mark the spot. Romero, City Tourism Director Deborah Dean, City Councilor Gordy Hicks and Richardson met at the site last week, to discuss plans to develop the area as a tourist attraction.

Dean said her office gets two or three inquiries every month from people looking for the site.

Tim Sawyer, pastor of the Socorro Baptist Temple, said he has five or six people stopping there every month looking for the site.

Sawyer frequently sees people milling around at the top of the ridge as if they are looking for the site — so he goes up the ridge and tells them what he knows about the landing.

The city plans to put a plaque at the landing site as well as benches either at the site or on the mesa overlooking the gully.

"Look what Roswell did with theirs (UFO landing), and ours is better documented," Romero said.

    Flying High on Saucer Sources
    Martin Plowman
    Brigid O'Connell

August 05, 2008-AFTER seven years researching the mysterious world of UFOs, Melbourne's newest Dr Who is not asking us to believe it or not, but just to remain curious.

With the state's UFO watchdog receiving more than 100 reports of unexplained phenomena each year, many Victorians are already convinced there is something out there.

Martin Plowman may not have seen a UFO, but that hasn't stopped the Brunswick man being awarded a PhD from the University of Melbourne's School of Culture and Communication for his thesis exploring why people report unexplained extraterrestrial sightings.

Mr Plowman wants to explore how people make sense of UFO encounters.

"I'm very open to the possibility of something out there, but I wanted to explore the paradox of reporting something that's identified as unidentified," he said.

An investigator at the Victorian UFO Research Society, James Molesworth, said the state's UFO "hot spots" had long been Gippsland and the Dandenong Ranges, with the Grampians popping up in recent years.

"We've had a few reports from farmers around the Grampians who have seen lights doing strange things in the sky and on the mountains," he said.

"It's common knowledge up there . . . and we haven't found an explanation."

A 2004 UFO Encounter in Alamo Heights, Texas
    UFO-Depiction
Around 7:00-7:20 PM, Sunday, October 17, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas the following happened:

My wife and I were walking our two dogs around sunset, trying to get finished before it got too dark to safely walk the dogs. We were returning to our house in Alamo Heights (San Antonio suburb), walking past the Alamo Heights high school. I commented on the beautiful sunset to our left, and we stopped our walk and both admired it. It was quite pretty, one of those really good, bright Texas sunsets.

My wife then pointed out a distinct ball that had appeared in the sunset clouds... I looked to where my wife was indicating and saw this object very clearly. It was absolutely distinct, with a greyish edge outline. The object appeared like a distant, but clearly round planet might appear in space, distinctly round, very likely a globe, but with no surface features. It appeared to have a smooth surface. It was not moving against the clouds.

Things began to get pretty weird, pretty fast. We quickly saw more and more distinct balls appearing throughout the cloud banks. Then there were several large globes / balls in view, some of them suddenly having 3-4 smaller balls appear right next to them... I believe that all of these new spheres appeared to the objects' left, our right. These new smaller globes / spheres then would move off. I simply could not comprehend what I / we were seeing.

We estimated that in total, there were at least a dozen large objects and many more smaller objects. Most were primarily in two sizes and round, but there were some triangular ones as well. The triangular shapes had rounded corners. The objects were as distinct and solid-appearing as marbles.

These were very distinct balls or globes, with definite firm outlines and consistent appearances. Some, when they appeared, were more triangular, but they remained that way, and the round ones stayed round. They all remained quite distinct and clear through this episode.

Early on, I saw one that was so distinct and bright that I mentioned to my wife that it looked like a plane with its landing lights on... my wife told me she had not mentioned it because she was sure it was a plane. I thought that might somehow help explain what we were seeing, perhaps some sort of reflections of the landing lights. We both viewed this specific object for a while, and it wasn't an airplane. It moved to the right for a bit, then stopped and hung there. It hung in the sky throughout the episode. We spent the next 5 minutes or so excitingly pointing to yet another globe / ball or triangular object that simply appeared, or others that were moving left or right relative to all the other balls. This type of activity was going on throughout our field of vision and beyond, so that we had to scan a bit of the sky to take in all the objects. I estimate around a 20-30 degree field of view was necessary to encompass all of this. We, of course, were primarily going from one specific focus to another, but I would occasionally widen my view to take in more of the big picture.

As time passed, to the left side of the scenario, we watched some smaller balls that had come out of a larger ball morph into what looked like small, fiery red, still, distinct objects against a very dark background. All of this developed quite quickly. The objects continued to morph into more and more complex shapes and more detail against the dark background. It appeared to me that they morphed into some sort of cuneiform, or hieroglyphics.

The images were quite distinct and clear, if very small, but what they were specifically I could not tell. My wife later described this same activity as looking like "moving braille-like characters".

This particular display then morphed into what looked exactly like a medium sized city at night (black background, white glowing city lights) as seen from onboard an approaching aircraft. This scene first appeared to be a view from directly above a city, but then the view angled down to look exactly like the view one would have as they were landing into a city at night. Then, very suddenly the whole show (writing characters, globes, other objects, etc.) began to quickly fade and merge back into (the effect appeared to us) the clouds behind them.

    General Comments:

The entire incident was completely non-threatening with a calmness about it. It lasted for about 5-10 minutes or so.

The whole effect was as though the visual "show" was generally unfolding toward us. It appeared that each new activity took place in front of, or at least came out of and to the side or below the previous objects.

There was no noise of any kind associated with the visuals.

We really did not have time to ask ourselves what they were because we were simply too busy pointing out one or another new item or activity to each other.

It seems certain that my wife and I saw the same exact images because we repeatedly pointed out one or another object to each other, and we would then get immediate confirmation. It was unbelievable, except that my wife and I clearly saw this.

After we returned home, I called my mother to see if she had seen anything in the sunset, but she had not watched it.

I also called my friend to see if he or his wife had viewed the sunset, but they had not. I spoke to my friend at length about this.

I called WOAI (?) TV news hotline to see if any one else had seen and reported anything, they had not received any news like this.

I reported this at the time to MUFON and to the National UFO Reporting Center. I now work as a Texas Peace Officer. My wife works in the information technology field.

    Alabama-Circular Configuration Seen
2007-I was investigating this web page opening page after page reading the material thereon and opening pages containing UFO caught on camera. By living in the south (Alabama) I noticed the document dated 8/05/08. After opening that site I was startled to see the circular configuration described as a UFO. The reason for my amazement is the fact that I have seen the same configuration! My sighting has been within a year of this email.

I go out every night around 10:00 PM to secure our property and due to past sightings I always look in the night sky as I walk my way to the entrance of our property. On this particular night I caught view of two moving objects going directly north to due south. Apparently these moving objects seemed close together and from my view point I estimate they were very elevated. They were moving I consider at a slow speed and all of a sudden one of these objects begin to slowly glow with the radial or circular progression.

The illumination I consider was a bright transparent blue. No sooner had the glow reached a full circular shape that it begins to digress until only the moving objects were visible. The glow of the light did not reach the surface of the earth nor did it illumine the area around me; the objects were seemingly very far away. In any case I wanted to submit my experience with someone that would not doubt the credibility of my experience. source: www.ufocasebook.com

    Oregon-Perfectly Round Object
On August 2, 2008 around 10 PM Pacific time, I witnessed a large perfectly round object in the night sky. It was traveling South to North in a straight line. No sound could be heard. If you were to hold a pea an arm's length away, it was that big. At the time I compared it with the size of my pinky fingernail to get a good idea on it's size.

My buddy and I hiked up to the Strawberry Wilderness area in Oregon, USA and slept in a tent that had a mesh top that allowed us to gaze at stars and watch for satellites. We saw a few satellites sailing East to West that were about the same size as stars, or just a tiny dot of light. This object seemed to emit it's own light as opposed to reflecting the sun. After coming into view for 5-7 seconds, it seemed to flash and get brighter just for a second.

We had a limited view of the sky, as we were camped under good sized pine and fir trees. But we watched this thing head North on it's path and could see it through branches until it was out of sight. We had a compass and used it the next morning and I guess it was moving true North, maybe 5 degrees of West according to my recollection. I have to say that it was moving much faster than the other satellites we saw before it. The fact that it was moving South to North also seemed unusual. Was it Sky Lab or a Shuttle?

I can't get over the fact that it looked so perfectly round. So much larger than a star. If a star was a grape, then this thing was a soccer ball. And why the burst of light?

When it lit up it wasn't like a car's headlight or a flashlight beam coming across your vision- it just simply had a burst of energy, but the brightness stayed within the object itself.

We saw a few jetliners pass overhead and those were easy to identify.

This was witnessed about 15 miles south of Prairie City, Oregon, USA. According to Google Earth we were positioned within a few feet at 44 degrees 17' 38.56" N 118 degrees 41' 10.16" W. We were camped along the west side of Little Strawberry Lake. Elevation is about 6900 feet. I'll be wondering about this for a long time! JRR-source: www.ufocasebook.com

    Tennessee-UFO Disappears
I reported a disappearing UFO around Jan 31, 2008, and had another similar experience this morning at about 6 am in Johnson City, TN. I was looking around the sky and when I looked straight up, I saw what at first I thought was Venus, but I quickly realized it was already below the horizon because I look at Venus all the time.

This bright light went from a standstill to moving away and gone in maybe 1-2 seconds. It seemed to just disappear. As with the earlier sighting, I saw other aircraft flying with blinking lights and there were basically no clouds in the sky.

Another strange twist is that I had seen a vision of lights in the sky at this location last Thursday or Friday morning. I was sort of expecting to see something this morning. This kind of thing has happened to me before. DN-source: www.ufocasebook.com

    Tennessee-Object with Changing Lights
08-09-08-Johnson City-This morning I saw something again around 6 am. I reported a UFO just 4 days ago. I felt compelled to go outside and I immediately noticed an object in the distance that had bright lights that were alternating between green, white, and red. The light was changing very quickly.

It hovered in the distance just above the tree line on the horizon and after a minute or two it dipped down to the top of the trees and then came back up. After maybe 10 to 20 seconds, the lights dimmed and it started moving across the sky. Unfortunately, my view was obstructed by a building and I didn't see it on the other side. The sky was clear but dark enough that I couldn't make out the object's outline. I'm really not sure about how far away it was either. This is the third UFO I've seen in 6 months. source: www.ufocasebook.com

    England-Round, Brown Object
08-07-08-North Staffordshire-This evening I saw what appeared to be a round object, brownish colour, moving north south direction, at an altitude between 20 to 30 thousand feet traveling in a straight line at a speed similar to a commercial jet and probably larger diameter than a plane is long. The object was visible for about ten to fifteen seconds, moving in a slight arc for the last say three seconds when it suddenly disappeared. There was no apparent noise.

The object was seen from my garden in Dilhorne, North Staffordshire at about 5 minutes past five in the evening (GMT) an I was looking roughly due south at an inclination of about 60 degrees. R.S. source: www.ufocasebook.com
