STEPHENVILLE - Scientists from the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Christian University recently visited the property of Somervell County rancher Corky Underwood after he reported finding a strange object and a large crater.
Underwood and his daughter were checking the property for weather-related damage when they came upon the crater that measures 70 feet by 40 feet.
Inside the crater was what he described as a "teardrop-shaped object" which Underwood said is about the size of a washing machine.
Scientists took samples from the area to determine if a meteorite was involved, but they said they were unsure whether it really is from a meteor event.
One scientist said the rock-like object may have been there for millions of years and was just unearthed by whatever crashed onto the ranch.
