North Haven (WTNH) - Many people in Connecticut got quite a scare this afternoon (August 27) when a military fighter jet was spotted flying in circles at a low altitude.

News Channel 8 fielded dozens of phone calls and e-mails from concerned viewers around 4:30 pm.

"I got nervous, really nervous," said Tom Mullen of North Haven. "Back and forth, back and forth for a good 25 minutes and it scared the heck out of the neighborhood."

"We were inside the building and you could really hear it and the windows were shaking," said Bonnie Zitomer of North Haven.

The jets were spotted in North Haven, Wallingford, Middletown, and Hartford. But what were they doing here?

News Channel 8 went looking for answers. We called the Connecticut Air Guard, the Governor's office, and Bradley Airport - no one knew anything about it. We called the FAA and they say it was a F-18 fighter out of Virginia on a legal training mission, but the military did not notify the FAA like they normally do.

On August 27, 2009, my house began to shake, windows rattled, and there was a terrible loud noise outside. I ran out to see what was going on and I saw a jet fighter which was so low I could not believe my eyes.

It was maybe 100 to 200 feet above the trees, and then at a great speed curved up disappearing through the clouds. I counted 3 of these planes.

It made a few alarms start going off in the neighborhood. One local paper reported it was 1 jet, another said "jets" which to me means more than one. I felt like they were chasing something.

Now here's where I think it gets interesting.

On Friday, Sept 11, 2009, I was driving on 91 South in Wallingford, Connecticut, and I had someone with me in the car and there was a huge tractor trailer truck in front of us with an open back.

It had a makeshift wooden frame and this huge, circular, metal object tilted almost on its side I think it was chained down which absolutely fit the description of a classic UFO. I couldn't get close enough to the truck to read where it was from or the name of the company.

The object was around 25 feet in diameter and maybe 5 or 6 feet high. It had a small porthole on top and 2 visible from my view on its side. I could not see any seams.

Could this be a UFO? And if so, why would it not be covered?

I've been saying to my friends I need to start traveling with my camera and I blew a great shot that day. If you have time - let me know what you think.
