So... what might extraterrestrial life look like? In science fiction, intelligent extraterrestrials are usually humanoid: they stand upright, and have arms, legs, and a head.

Strangely enough, many astrosociobiologists (scientists who study possible alien civilizations) agree that aliens might actually share a lot with humans.

Most scientists agree that if like were to exist on other planets, those planets would have to have similar environmental conditions to Earth. An idea called convergent evolution hypothesize that the evolutionary process always leads to successful creatures to develop certain key characteristics.

For example, a majority of successful Earth creatures have evolved eyes and limbs. There are many different types of eyes that evolved in many different ways.

However, all sorts of different Earth creatures developed eyes because the ability to see one's environment is a trait that is always an advantage to survival.

Talking the to the next logical step, many astrosociobiologists believe that intelligent extraterrestrials beings will evolve along the same lines as we did - from simple, single celled organisms to in intelligent creatures that can use tools and form societies.

In addition, since the environment of a planet that supports life would be similar to the environment of Earth, they would share many of the features (like eyes and limbs) that helped humans adapt and survive.

In short, there is a real chance that aliens might actually look like little green men!
