St. James, Long Island, NY - 04-01-10
My name is Laurene, I am 30-years-old, and I am a believer. I would like to share my sighting experience with you. I live in New York on Long Island in a small town called St. James with my husband and my daughter.
On Thursday April 1, 2010, at 6:30 AM, I was in the car taking my daughter to my parents' house for the day. My husband was home sleeping.
I was traveling southeast on Moriches Road heading towards Route 347. As I passed my daughter’s school, I noticed a very large, dark, silver-black orb in the sky. It looked like it was close to being above the Long Island Expressway (495).
As I kept driving, I lost it in the trees. There are 2 bends on the road at this point, and after you come around them the sky is pretty much wide open, because there is a huge mall (Smithaven mall) right in front of you.
It usually takes about 15 – 20 seconds to pass the two bends in the road, in that time it took to pass them, the object had clearly traveled to the south shore of Long Island, and was still continuing its heading in that southeast direction.
I came to the stop light and was amazed to see the object was nearly gone. I looked over the shopping center to the southeast, and there it was - a tiny, dark object still moving southeast and getting smaller.
By the time I could get the camera out, it was so far away and so small I was unable to obtain a picture. (bummer! I need a better camera!)
The object did not rise like a balloon, and it did not look like any normal aircraft. I have grown up around McArthur Airport my whole life and have seen all sorts of interesting things flying from there, but it was definitely not a plane or a helicopter because:
1) It was too big
2) It was too round
3) It was very dark in color.
As we continued the rest of our ride, we saw two planes in the sky and could definitely tell the difference between them and the object that we had previously seen.
The object we both saw was very large, very dark, and moving really fast. It was round, and either black or dark silver in color. No noise could be heard, but I was pretty far away from it.
It was not high in the sky, but about 1,500 – 2,000 feet off the ground. It looked like it was right in the middle of the sky. (it could have been slightly higher, I am not good at figuring that type of height out. To describe the size – if I put my thumb up it was as wide as my thumb.)
My daughter is only 6, and I would like her name kept confidential. Her name is Jessica, and she is a very smart kindergarten student. When we saw the orb in the sky we both said “Oh My God what is that?”
The weather that morning was nice: the sun was beginning its early morning rise, but still had about a half hour to go. The sky was pink and orange, with very high wispy clouds.
