Southern Utah - August, 2010

Last night (08/09/10) at around 9:30 PM, my two kids and I were in our backyard, star gazing. All of a sudden, my 6-year-old son pointed west and said "Mom, why is that star moving?"

Sure enough, we looked where he was pointing, and what looked like a star was moving across the sky to the north, very fast. I say it looked like a star because we were all looking in that direction moments before and noticed that "star" twinkling so brightly for such a little star (this was moments before it began to move.)

That's why my son was looking at it. We watched it for about 30 or 40 seconds, then it faded. It was small, which to us indicated height - it had to be FAR AWAY.

The other night at around midnight (08/07/10) I was on my back porch, watching a thunderstorm rolling in from the west. I turned to my left (southern sky) to see the Milky Way (it's actually visible to the naked eye where I live), and noticed a bright, star-like object with a pulsating blue to white light.

I thought must be a plane that looked stationary, because it was heading straight or something. Then all of a sudden, it made a zig-zag formation from left to right, and sped off so fast that it looked like a falling star, only it didn't fall.

It just kept going left (east). I watched if for a little over a minute until it was out of my sight.
