Brian Vike says trio of sightings a mystery.
Spate of UFO sightings on Vancouver Island since strange lights spotted over Qualicum Beach
The recent publication of UFO sightings in the Oceanside area has sparked a rash of other reports, says Brian Vike, of the website Sightings.com.
Vike, a resident of Houston, B.C., said he received numerous reports from Vancouver Island residents since the article, Strange lights seen over Oceanside, was printed in The News.
On Aug. 28, a witness and a friend, both of whom have had their names deleted to protect their privacy, said they were sitting on Parksville Beach, facing north, when they saw something highly unusual.
“I leaned back on a log tilted my head towards the stars and right away I noticed an object moving from east/northeast to west/southwest,” the witness said. “After observing the object for three seconds, it stopped on a dime and started to travel northeast. It only traveled in that direction for about two seconds before making a large, 80-degree turn back in the west/southwest direction.”
Another report came in from Nanaimo on Aug. 3, wherein a stationary, cube-shaped UFO was described.
“I walk my border collie most nights around 7:30 p.m. and on Aug. 31 we took a familiar route on a nearby street. Something caught my eye to my let and about 200 feet above some houses was a stationary object, probably dark grey or brown and about five to 0 feet wide in size. There were no lights on it and it appeared square, possibly cube-like. As it rotated it disappeared for a second or two, as though it may have been two-dimensional.”
The witness discounted the possibility of the object being a kite because there was no wind at all.
Vike noted another sighting was reported to him from Port Alberni.
This sighting, on July 3, saw what appeared to be one object towing a second across the sky.
“My ball team was sitting by the fire, enjoying the night, when my sister looked up to the sky and said, ‘look at that,”’ the witness said. “We all looked up and saw a lit up, triangular object in the sky. Then we all said, ‘it looks like it is towing something. We could see a dark line attached to a dark object of the same shape behind it. We were all speechless. Then, as if it knew we were watching it, poof, it was gone.”
Vike said he doesn’t have any idea what the cube-shaped object was.
“First of all, if this was some type of craft, we all would know that it would be highly illegal to be parked hovering over someone’s home,” he said. “The cube shape is rather strange, although I have received reports over the years of this same type of craft. I am just about positive I won’t get this figured out unless someone else comes forward who saw the same thing.”
As for the Port Alberni sighting of something towing another object, Vike suggested it could have been a motorized paraglider lit up pulling another one, although he noted the lack of motor sounds.
The Port Alberni and Nanaimo sightings, he added were certainly unusual and fall into the unexplained category.
“The Parksville Beach sighting was another strange duck,” he said. “This sighting would have been a normal one, except for the fact that it stopped on a dime, with no slowing down,” he said. “These three sightings are really strange and I don’t know what they were.”
