UFOS obviously hadn’t got the UK-wide ‘no fly zone’ message from air traffic controllers, as an unexplained object was spotted in the skies above Ware.

Despite the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland grounding conventional aircraft, the close encounter took place on Thursday at around 9.15 pm. Eyewitness Lesley Weir claims to have spied a “light in the sky”.

She wrote on a UFO-watchers’ website: “On a night with no aircraft flying, I witnessed a light in the sky through my conservatory roof coming from the north, I then went to the front of house and saw the same light travelling south.

"There was no noise and it was travelling around the same speed as a plane.”

She said the mystery object was “round and orange with a white centre”.

Ms Weir added: “I am sure this is not a Chinese lantern I have seen them before.”
