Party Will Stand by its ‘Alien’ Councillor
Simon Parkes
Published: 3:10 PM 7/5/2013

Representatives of the Labour Party have said the group will stand by Whitby’s extraterrestrially-adopted councillor.

Stakesby Ward councillor Simon Parkes’ story of alien abduction, adoption and insemination has gone global following his revelations in a recent Channel 4 show.

Mr Parkes sits on the town council as a Labour party representative. When asked whether the party would stand beside their councillor, who claims links to the Illuminati and MI6, Bernie Keavy, regional communications officer said: “He’s a local councillor so it’s matter for the local group, but ultimately it’s a matter for the people who elected him.”

Local Labour party member Gerald Dennett defended Coun Parkes and said: “He seems to be doing an effective job as a town councillor. From my point of view, as a Labour party member, his views have no impact on his role as a member of the Labour party. Other people believe many things that I don’t.”

As yet, there is no indication as to whether Coun Parkes will retain the Labour party’s backing come the next election, but Mr Dennett said: “Some people believe this may be an electoral millstone around our heads, but I don’t. I can’t predict what the group is going to say as we have a lot of new members with a lot of new ideas.”

Following Mr Parkes’ revelations, which he initially made in 2010, he has become a figurehead for those who believe they have had extraterrestrial encounters. Fellow abductees from around the globe, including a Canadian couple who visited just last weekend, have all sought his advice.

Coun Parkes said: “I was in the market place the other day, buying highlighter pens, and the guy on one of the stalls said, ‘I tell you what’s refreshing, if I had a problem I would come to you because you are not scared of bureaucracy”. People are sick to death of slick politicians who are hugely well-paid and not in it for the right reasons.”
