THE mystery of the Ipswich UFO has been solved. Last week, the QT reported how 83-year-old Booval resident Arthur Sollitt had captured on video a green UFO that lit up the night sky.

The UFO was in fact a radio-controlled electric glider owned by a Silkstone man known as Schultzy, with high intensity light-emitting diodes attached.

It has been mistaken as a UFO in the past, while other people have thought it was a drone.

The aircraft even had experts in the field baffled with UFO Research Queensland president Sheryl Gottschall saying she had "never seen anything like it before."

Up close, the glider looks completely different to what Mr. Sollitt captured on film when it had green LEDs attached. But Schultzy has finally shed light on the mystery.

"It is a two-metre Parkzone Radian electric glider that I bought in Toyworld in Ipswich," he said.

"I wire up some high intensity LEDs that you can buy on eBay.

"It is like nothing else flying. You don't see a normal aircraft with high intensity LEDs like that. I've had greens. I've had blues. I've got reds fitted at the moment.

"People say it is out of this world. There was a four-minute video on You Tube of it where people thought it was a UFO. Other people have thought it was a drone out of Amberley.

GREEN MACHINE: Booval resident Arthur Sollitt captured this UFO over Swanbank on his video camera.Contributed "We were up at Helidon for the annual air and land spectacular when a friend got a text saying the UFO article had been in Saturday's QT. It was a bit of a buzz.

"I didn't do it as a UFO spoof. It is a bit of harmless fun for me."

On the night of February 24, when Schultzy was flying it, he was not far from his Silkstone home. As for UFOs, Schultzy would not discount the possibility that they are out there.

"I can honestly say that I do believe there are things out there that are not of this world," he said.

"I have been around aviation my whole life and I have definitely seen things in the past that don't belong in this world.

"I'm not a UFO freak, but I do believe."

Mr. Sollitt took a video of the glider when Schultzy gave the QT a demonstration and said he was stunned to uncover the mystery of his UFO.

"When I first saw the glider I didn't know what to make of it," Mr. Sollitt said.

"I'm really impressed. I haven't seen anything like this in my 83 years of inquisitive looking at things."
