South Texas Sightings Spark Interest in Conference
Contributed Photo this photo was captured by Ismael Cuellar and the Laredo Paranormal Research Society on Oct. 23, 2011, using night vision. According to the group, the footage was analyzed by a number of film experts who subjected it to various tests using filters and the UFO can’t be explained. Cuellar will be one of the featured speakers at the conference in Edinburg Friday.

Contributed Photo Nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman is regarded as a top UFO researcher and has appeared on countless television documentaries. He will be one of the featured speakers at the "Out of This World" UFO convention in Edinburg Friday.

Noe Torres, author of “Mexico’s Roswell,” recounts the UFO traveling from Corpus Christi to Brownsville at the speed of 2,500 mph before eventually crashing in Northern Mexico.

These are the types of UFO sightings that will be discussed at the “Out of This World” UFO conference and festival this weekend in Edinburg. Featured speakers include some of the world’s leading UFO researchers such as nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, who investigated the infamous Roswell, N.M., UFO incident, and Travis Walton, whose UFO encounter inspired the movie “Fire in the Sky.”

Torres, the conference organizer and an Edinburg local, has appeared on the History Channel’s “UFO Hunters” television series, and the “Mexico’s Roswell” case has been in two more History Channel features.

Torres said the conference was inspired by the increasing interest in UFOs after a wave of sightings from Laredo to Corpus Christi and south to the Rio Grande Valley.

He said he has lectured across the U.S. on UFOs but didn’t realize how much interest there was in the topic right here in South Texas.

“Almost everyone I talk to has either seen a UFO themselves or knows someone who has,” Torres said.

One of the sightings that has garnered interest is a recently released photo taken by a security camera at a well site on the Eagle Ford Shale field near Laredo. The Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON, which released the photo, describes the object in the picture as a saucer-shaped object 60 feet in diameter with four lights hovering over a well site.

MUFON has recorded more than a dozen UFO sightings in the last several years in Corpus Christi.
