A group of former members of Congress is planning to hold an exhaustive 30 hours of hearings seeking the truth about UFOs. The panel will investigate what the US government knows about UFOs.
The five former congressmen - three Democrats and two Republicans - said they were frustrated with Congress's failure to explore the issue of extraterrestrial life and were taking manners into their own hands.
"The Citizen Hearing on Disclosure of an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race will attempt to accomplish what the Congress has failed to do for forty-five years - seek out the facts surrounding the most important issue of this or any other time," the group said in a statement.
The five days of hearings will take evidence from 40 witnesses in Washington and be designed to mimic the format of a Congressional hearing.
The group said that because of the "global implications of the issue" it would live stream proceedings in English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese and Mandarin.
"This represents approximately one half of the world's population."
Among the group is former senator Mike Gravel of Alaska, an 82-year-old who ran against Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary but left the Democratic Party in disgust soon after to become a Libertarian.
The hearings were announced in a dramatic video splicing together news clips with shaky footage of bright lights flying above the US Capitol.
The hearings will eventually be turned into a documentary entitled "Truth Embargo."
