DATE: 1/10/2014 EVENT DESCRIPTION:
While out walking, I looked around at the pre-dawn sky and notice 2 bright objects to the west at about 35 degrees above the horizon.
They were both equally bright in magnitude (the two brightest objects in the sky at the time) and almost parallel to each other in reference to the horizon line (Rocky Mountains, Wet Mountain Range).
I thought it peculiar that they were both so bright, thinking one to be Venus and one to be a planet. I soon dismissed this notion as no other planet or star is comparable to Venus in magnitude.
After about 5 minutes, I checked the sky again and found that the objet to the south had moved to the 10 o’clock position above the object to the north.
At this point, I stopped and watched the object move in an easterly direction and turn to a new heading of north by northeast at about 45 degrees above the horizon line near Pike’s Peak.
Wind was out of the north at 15 to 20 mph. I watched until it was out of sight.
The objects speed is hard to calculate. The best way to describe it is that it moved at a “leisurely” pace with no apparent variation in speed.
Elevation of object approximately 15 to 20,000 ft. My position was about 6,500 ft.
The other object remained motionless during this time and visual contact of it was lost while looking at the moving object as the sky brightened.
I am going to find out where Venus was in the pre-dawn sky in an attempt to account for the second “stationary” object.
I will attest to this event by oath or affidavit.
Thank you for this opportunity and I would like to let you know that your work is greatly appreciated.
