New Delhi: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has unveiled a new plan to track the existence of extra terrestrial beings. Scientists are planning to come up with a telescope, large enough to locate species on other planets as well.
It is interesting to note that the telescope is going to be so large that it cannot be sent to space from Earth via a rocket, hence will be prepared, and set up in space itself. NASA is on the verge of sending a group of astronauts to space for the setting up the telescope, and the project hopefully should be ready by the year 2030.
Advanced Technology Large Aperture Space Telescope will be the world’s most powerful telescope, which will be able to analyze the environment of other planets and also track species which are about 30 light years away.
World’s largest telescope
This telescope will make it possible for us to figure out if there exists life beyond Earth. This telescope is going to about four times larger than the existing 44 feet- Hubble Space Telescope.
The mirror inside the telescope will have a diameter of around 52 feet, which will be the largest mirror ever created by any man on Earth.
NASA will send across its team of astronauts via its Orion rocket. The group of astronauts will then start assembling the telescope together in space. It will be located at a distance of 10 lakh miles.
Telescope to be ready by 2030
NASA will unveil more details of this mammoth project at the National Astronomy Meeting this week in Portsmouth.
The information will be shared by the President of the Royal Astronomical Society, Martin Bastro.
According to Bastro, this telescope will help astronomers in exploring more than 60 odd, new planets. It will also give insights into the proportion of oxygen and other gases in space, which either are the reason for sustaining life on other planets, or vice-versa.
Speaking to an English daily, Bastro said, “The telescope will life’s possibility on Earth lie planets. Its power can be estimated by the fact that it can man planets which are about 30 light years away. Being the largest space agency in the world, it is important that NASA leads this project, which hopefully should be achieved by 2030.”
