Visitations from the Men in Black
UFO Depiction
Published: 7:18 AM 1/11/2014

By Paul Darin, Epoch Times

Human? Alien? Or a figment of imagination?

The mysterious Men in Black tend to offer little explanation for their appearance, leaving a trail of doubt and confusion in their path, and people who have encountered them often report having felt intimidated and harassed.

The term Men in Black (MIBs) refers to individuals that often show up to question UFO witnesses and witnesses of other strange phenomenon. Usually in groups of three, they are dressed almost entirely in black, often wearing sunglasses. They are usually male, but in some cases have had an equal number of female counterparts. Sometimes they claim to be working within a certain agency of the federal government such as the CIA.

These mysterious figures have gained renown in American pop culture and folklore, and a popular trilogy of feature films, Men in Black, staring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, was conceived in 1997.

Additionally, Men in Black were often featured in the 1990’s Fox show The X-Files. One comedic episode, “Jose Chung’s from Outer Space” (’95–‘96), guest-starred former wrestler Jesse Ventura and Jeopary’s Alex Trebek as MIBs.

The term “Men in Black,” is believed to have been coined by author and investigator John Keel, who is probably best known for his investigative work in UFOs and paranormal activity, and for his book, The Mothman Prophesies (1975). In 1967, Keel wrote an article for Saga magazine titled “UFO Agents of Terror,” in which he describes his investigation into these figures that would hence come to be known as “Men in Black,” according to The Telegraph.

Documented Visitations

One of the first documented MIB cases involved publisher of the flying saucer publication Space Review Albert K. Bender, who in October 1953, abruptly ended his magazine publication. In 1963, he spoke in his autobiography about how he was intimidated into halting all publications by visitors wearing all black, according to an account on a site dedicated to the scientific study of the extraterrestrial.

A more modern potential MIB sighting involves actor and UFO and paranormal researcher Dan Aykroyd, who recounted his MIB story in the documentary 'Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs.'

While he was in New York City preparing a show for the SciFi Channel on UFOs and the paranormal, titled Out There, he was having a cellphone conversation with Brittany Spears and saw a black sedan with potential MIBs inside. One MIB stood outside the car staring at Aykroyd, and another gave Aykroyd an unpleasant glance from the back seat. Aykroyd looked away for a brief moment, and when he looked back, the sedan had disappeared. “I turned back a half-second later and it was gone. And that car did not go past me, it did not take a U-turn... that car vanished,” said Aykroyd.

Aykroyd was informed later that day that his show was to be canceled, leaving many ufologists to ponder whether or not MIB influence led to that outcome.

Merely A Figment?

Due to the odd nature of these figures, there are many theories regarding their origins. Many ufologists believe these beings to be actual government agents, while others believe them to be extraterrestrials themselves. Some skeptics believe that they are just the unconscious manifestation of American paranoia.

Researcher Peter Rojcevicz, who had a close encounter with a potential MIB himself while researching UFOs, has a different understanding. He believes that the MIB phenomenon has been a part of our culture and folklore since the beginning of history, and that MIBs are a modern form of the fairies and angels that were seen by peoples of the past.

In a nutshell, he believes that we mentally create these beings—or an image of them—in order to help us cement our concept of reality. The antithetical nature they represent helps us to understand reality as we see it, according to Rojcewicz’s lecture, “Beware the Physical in the Material: Imaginalia, Folk Belief and the Eclipse of the Literal.”

Whatever the reality may be, these beings often leave their contacts stunned and in fear. They are virtually synonymous with UFOs and have influenced our pop culture through stories, documentation, and movies. Perhaps someday we will have a clear understanding of the Men in Black.

Ask the Historical Society: UFOs

Cecildaily.com - Cecil, North Dakota

Forty some years ago, sightings of unidentified flying objects zooming through the night air or hovering over rural roads periodically got the attention of local police agencies.

The reports started in the late 1960s and continued into the early 1970s as calls came in about large silent objects with bright lights or flying saucer-like craft darting through the Cecil County darkness.

A motorist on Oldfield Point Road sighted an object without engines gliding silently above the road in 1971. Officer Marshall Purner of the Elkton Police investigated, but could not find anything out of the ordinary.

A little later, a caller from Bay View observed strange lights floating erratically in the darkness. Troopers unable to explain the strange lights phoned Andrews Air Force Base, but they detected nothing.

There were a number of similar reports during this time, but eventually the calls subsided.

Witness Spies 'Miles-Long' Object near Ridgefield, Washington Mountains
UFO Depiction
Published: 7:00 AM 1/7/2014

Ridgefield, Washington - 01-04-14

I was driving eastbound on the overpass of I5 at exit 14 Ridgefield, WA exit.

After driving from the off ramp onto the overpass which goes over I5 I headed eastbound into Ridgefield, WA, I looked to my right out my passenger window where I could see I5 lead to the base of a small mountain range which appears to be Woodland Hills perhaps.

At the height of the hills/mountains that lie directly above I5 or at least from my view there is an indented area that’s kind of like the cleavage of the hills, I saw a very large lighted, flickering blob-like mass atop the hills.

It was not hovering, but looked as if it was attached. This white mass had to have been 10-15 miles across. There were no clouds in the sky and it was broad daylight.

The object was so bright and the contrast so great from its surrounding area that it should have been night but it was in the middle of the afternoon.

There is nothing that I know of in that area either, it was too large to be a satellite on the ground and there is no lake in that area, plus as I moved its light stayed solid and incredibly bright, yet did not give off light rays.

It was the shape of a lake or something, but a bright, white flickering light. I have no idea what it was.

1985 - Family in Connecticut Has Encounter with Triangle UFO
UFO Depiction
Published: 12:09 PM 1/5/2014

Danbury, Connecticut - 03-12-85

I was 15-years-old and out on our back porch feeding our cat, and when I looked up to the sky I saw a huge triangle-shaped UFO hovering above the tree.

It made no sound, so I ran back in the house to get my parents and my siblings. When they heard what was going on they came also.

We went back out to the deck and it was still there, so we were looking at it for a couple of minutes and then it began to move, so my dad told all of us to get back in the house, so we did.

Then I remember being in the kitchen and looking out the door window and seeing it coming towards the house, then it went right over our house so we then ran to the living room window to see if we could see it better.

It went across the street to the other house moving very slowly.

Then it hovered there for a few minutes, and then moved again very slowly until we could not see it anymore.

I wish I could see it again, as we never knew exactly what it was. None of us have ever seen such a thing again.

1981 - Unknown Craft Spotted Entering Water in Lake Ontario
UFO Depiction
Published: 8:44 AM 1/9/2014

In late August of 1981, between 5-6 PM, three men and two women were driving west from a mountain area slightly east of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and south of Lake Ontario. The weather was clear and sunny.

At a point, roughly half way through Hamilton, one of the occupants in the car saw a strange craft through the window of the car, and by their exclamation, alerted the others in the car to the sight.

The craft was a red-orange, domed saucer-shaped object, which appeared solid, with many yellow lights radiating from the base or bottom. In answer to the question of size, she (the witness of this report) answered that the diameter would be roughly 3-4 car lengths, and 3 car heights for the height of craft (also a rough guess).

Her closing remark on this was "not a small craft". Indeed it wasn’t, as I measured two cars belonging to family members that are of "medium size." They average out to 15’ 7" in length and 4’ 6" in height.

This would put the UFO in the area of 46’ 9" to 62’ 4" in diameter and 13’ 6" in height. It was slightly smaller than the B‑25 Mitchell bomber of WW2... "not a small craft!"

Its speed and altitude could only be expressed as that of an aircraft on approach for a landing near an airport. It was on a course roughly parallel to theirs. Due to the curving road it was first sighted to their right (north) and then over them and then to the left. Its course was roughly north-northwest.

While driving the radio had been on and, while in the vicinity of the object, was now getting static (EM effects), which the driver turned off to avoid further distraction. Someone in the car at this point had said, "Follow that UFO." All being in agreement, they did precisely that.

Although the road had many curves, the craft was seen to move in a straight line towards Hamilton Harbour. As it approached the Harbour, it appeared to slow down, and then angle itself downward and gently entered the water.

At the point of entry (rough approximation), it can be seen on the nautical chart that the water depth at this point is 7 or more meters (23 feet) and gets deeper in the direction of Lake Ontario, so the UFO had at least 10 feet to spare.

Therefore a craft of 13 feet in height could be covered by water. There are many cases of UFOs submerging in shallow waters. The witness reporting this case states that the UFO had passed them and was at a distance away when it entered the Harbour, and does not recall any major disturbance of the water as it went in.

After it had entered the water the group lost sight of the area for a period, due to the topography. Overcome with curiosity, the group went to the waterfront to see what they could. From a city map of Hamilton, the distance from the "mountain" area and the waterfront is roughly 12 km or 7.45 statute miles, and could have been reached quickly.

They remained in the area for approximately seven hours, wondering if the UFO would surface, whether any aircraft would attempt a search of the area, and delving into various possibilities of the event. Between 12:20 and 1:00 am, two objects were seen to partially emerge and remained in that position through the point that the group finally left.

The question of these two objects being submarines came up and has been done away with, as information from the Canadian Navy states that it does not use the few subs they have in any of the Great Lakes.

Another possibility regarding the emerging objects might be the tide going out and revealing some fixed underwater object. This portion of the sighting is the most speculative and should not detract from the sighting of the craft and its actions.
