Mediacasting by Extraterrestrials to be Monitored
UFO 10/26/2006-New ultra-powerful radio telescopes could be used to look for radio and TV transmissions fromn extraterrestrial civilizations, according to newswire reports from Agence France-Presse and Antara News.

Citing pre-publication information about an upcoming article expected in The New Scientist, the frequency range of radio waves from hydrogen atoms forged in the early Universe, between tens and hundreds of megahertz, overlaps with those of 'conventional' TV and radio broadcasts in the 50 - 400 MHz range.

Reports indicate that two Harvard University astrophysicists say that signs of TV and radio broadcasts could be discernible with Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR) telescopes, such as those now being built in the Netherlands.

The scientists' report is expected in the next issue of the prestigious British science magazine.

As many as 100 million stars with planets can be found within 1,000 light years of Earth, from which such radio leakage is possible, scientists calculate.

Even so, another hurdle to be overcome in the search, reports indicate, is to distinguish alien transmissions from terrestrial signals.
