December 23, 1978-9 miles north of Valdosta, Georgia, beside Moody AFB. Weather conditions were clear skies, and it was night time 21:30 EST to be exact.
The details of the sighting as best as I can remember, was of a large V-shaped aerial object, that was some 70 feet in length and solid, no fuselage, no turbine engines on the wings, the object was almost noiseless, but it did generate sound. I can't describe the sound, as there is no sound that I can relate with or use as a reference for the low pitched sound that I heard. There was no flame, no vapor trail coming from the object, there was a clearly visible row of lights, and each wing had a clearly visible row of white lights. I don't remember the exact number of lights in each row, but it was more than 4 on each wing and less than 10 on each. The object came from the west, and was moving slowly (5-10 miles per hour) in an easterly direction toward Moody AFB, which was across the road from where I saw the object. I was less than a ¼ mile from the gate of the base. The object was directly overhead; it appeared to be 30-40 feet above me. The aerial object moved with intelligence and appeared to violate known aerial best practice and protocol as it was flying directly on a collision course with the F-4 Phantom jet fighter aircraft that were approaching the north end of the base. To my surprise this object didn't veer off or break off from its course, it flew with confidence with certainty, with power not abandon, but I was equally surprised that the F-4 Phantoms pilots passive reaction or non-reaction to the rouge aerial object, the F-4’s continued to drop their noses and if they did see the object.
I didn't report this to anyone, only my friend who saw this and his father who came on the scene a minute too late. Nobody reported these things back then, besides I was stationed at Moody AFB, didn't want to get into trouble and even worse didn't want to be a target of ridicule and discipline for observing such a thing. A big thanks to the gentleman who sent the report. Name withheld,
