Two Nights ago I was up in Schaumburg, IL at an office building right by Woodfield Mall. One Woodfield Place. I was waiting for a friend between 7:30 and 8:30 pm so I killed time by watching the wicked storms that came through from about 7:40 to 8:00. After the rain had passed over there was really cool lightning going off in the sky around me so I decided to try and take a picture of the lighting. Well, you know what it's like trying to take a photo of lightning? As soon as you press the camera button the lightning is already gone. The picture enclosed was my 20th attempt to get a shot of the spectacular lightning. Only when I looked at the picture the lightning wasn't there, this big shaft of light was there instead. The picture was taken looking South East towards IL Route 53 or 355, whichever you call it. Do you have any ideas as to what this might be or has anyone else gotten this when photographing lighting?
