The NSA Thread: What Really Happened
UFO Forum
Published: 6:58 AM 8/26/2013

Yesterday, on my way to the Forum...

Here is the series of events that led to overkill coverage on the NSA thread being removed from the UFO Casebook Forum on Sunday. The category can found at Today's Off-topic News.

Scroll down until you see the NSA thread.

On Sunday, 08-25-13, I slept in and didn't get on line until around noon. Normally, I begin my day on the Internet around 6-7 AM. My wife urges me to take a little time off-line once in a while.

I have a routine I pretty much follow each day. First, check our article comments, check MUFON sighting reports, and then go to my email.

Normally, I have anywhere from 300-500 emails to go through. Sunday was even worse with a number of emails from various forum members. One was from one of the Global Moderators, which asked me: "Did you remove the NSA thread from the forum?" I had not, and told him so. I also told him I would come over and see what the problem was.

I also had a post telling me that I had an instant message waiting for me at the Forum. I logged out of email, and went straight to the forum.

I first clicked on the instant message. It said:

I am preparing an article for 'Orlando Paranormal Examiner' on the recent removal of the popular NSA thread here at Casebook.

Would you care to comment and/or offer explanations to be included in the upcoming article? Your response would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration,

Orlando Paranormal Examiner

I told him that I was going to check on it, and see if I could get the thread back, and that no one at the Forum had deleted it. This I had deduced from reading the moderator board. I also told him I did not know what had happened yet.

I went to the category, and sure enough, the thread was gone. This has happened maybe twice before in ten years. So, I went into the admin functions which has a "Fix Board" option.

After I did this; one click of the mouse, the thread was back. Problem solved, and I thought that was the end of it. It was only the beginning.

A few hours later, back in my email, I saw an email heading: "NSA-related thread goes missing from UFO discussion forum".

Here is an excerpt:

A thread in which posters explored the National Security Agency, Edward Snowden and related subject matter disappeared without explanation Saturday at UFO Casebook online discussion forum.

The thread, which consisted of over 500 posts and some 3,700 views, was apparently restored Sunday afternoon, but moderators and administrators could offer no explanations for its temporary deletion.

"No one associated with the forum removed the thread," Casebook administrator B.J. Booth informed 'Orlando Paranormal Examiner' Sunday. "We are trying to find out what happened."

Folks, this was not a conspiracy; no government involvement here. It was simply a malfunction of the board, easily fixed in five seconds.

The lesson here; Don't see conspiracy in everything.

Have a good day!

B J Booth
