Witnessing an unidentified object can be a disorienting experience, but the data collected in those first few moments is critical for serious research. To help researchers at organizations like the National UFO Reporting Center analyze these events, witnesses should follow a standardized documentation protocol.

1. Immediate Observation and Safety

Before reaching for a device, ensure you are in a safe location. Observe the object’s silent characteristics—such as the "blue pulse" or erratic hovering—that are often reported in sightings across Michigan and the UFO Casebook archives.

2. Capturing High-Quality Visual Evidence

If a camera is available, use these tips to maximize the value of your footage:

Establish Scale: Try to include stationary landmarks like the wood line, trees, or buildings in the frame to help investigators determine the object's size and altitude.

Steady the Shot: If possible, brace your arms against a vehicle or structure to reduce motion blur.

Narrate the Event: Speak clearly while recording, describing the colors, sounds (or lack thereof), and the exact direction the object is moving.

3. Recording Metadata and Environmental Conditions

Physical evidence is only as strong as its context. Immediately after the sighting, note the following:

Exact Time and Location: Use GPS coordinates if possible.

Weather Conditions: Note the cloud cover, wind speed, and visibility at the time of the event.

Reference Objects: Identify any conventional aircraft or stars nearby that could serve as a point of comparison.

4. Reporting and Sharing Your Account

Once you have secured your evidence, the next step is to submit a formal report. Sharing your story on platforms like YouTube or Rumble can help find other witnesses, but filing an official report with a research database ensures the data is preserved for scientific study.
