20 Years since Cosford UFO Mystery
Published: 3:31 PM 4/2/2013

At about 1.15 am on March 31, 1993, in what has been dubbed the Cosford Incident, there were dozens of sightings across western Britain of triangular shaped UFOs moving across the sky at great speeds.

There were sightings in Devon, Cornwall and the West Midlands, but it was accounts given by military and Met Office personnel at both RAF Cosford and RAF Shawbury which gave the reports greater prominence.

A report to the MoD by Nick Pope, who ran the government UFO project, said: “It seems that an unidentified object of unknown origin was operating in the UK Air Defence Region without being detected on radar; this would appear to be of considerable defence significance, and I recommend that we investigate further.”

A MoD police patrol reported seeing bright lights in the sky over RAF Cosford.

The officers called the meteorological officer at Shawbury to tell him to look out for a UFO. He then claimed to have seen ‘a vast triangular shaped craft flying at about 200 ft’ which made a low humming noise and fired a narrow beam of light which swept the ground.

Most described two bright white lights speeding to the southeast, leaving trails of luminous vapor. Some described a third light, giving the impression of a triangular object. UFO websites cite the incident as a major indicator of the existence of alien life.

Sceptics, however, have put forward rather more prosaic explanations. On the evening of March 30, 1993, Russia launched a radio satellite into orbit. The rocket booster which took it into space later re-entered the earth’s atmosphere, breaking into two or more pieces as it did so.

All of the sightings of ‘bright lights’ coincide with a computer simulation of where the fragments would have been visible.

And meteorological officer Wayne Elliott, whose evidence at Shawbury was central, has pointed out that his sighting was an hour after the one at Cosford – and he now believes what he saw was a police helicopter.

It is Here for Me and Says So
UFO Depiction

Tumwater, Washington - 03-15-11

While returning from an evening walk at about 7:30 pm in mid March 2011, not long after the nuclear disaster in Japan, I rounded a corner off of Elm St. I looked back down that street to suddenly see appear a star bright object, mercury vapor bright in color.

It was burning bright and wavering, throwing out almost tangible color. I found myself back in the street I had just left, not knowing how long or how I had come back into the road I had just left.

The object is brilliant now and is changing colors like a slide show backlit by lasers. It is beautiful. I can’t make out a definite shape as it seems to be changing shapes with the colors it throws into the environment.

The light has substance. I can feel it as it strobes and changes intensities. Then, in my head I feel, not so much a voice as an overwhelming impression.

It is here for me and it says so; it is performing these light and shape changes for my enjoyment while it gets ready to get me. I suddenly have the feeling something is behind me.

There in the road behind me is a car, with a man at the wheel; gripping the steering wheel with both hands. He is just staring. I can see the flashes of light reflecting off his face and the windshield.

I look back at the object above the road and it is now about half again as close as it was; just like that, it has come that much closer, and the odd thing is that its aspect has not changed. I didn’t realize it was so large.

It continues to flash outlandish colors and is now putting on a full blown show of shape changes that defy a machine description. "What is this?"

Now I turn and the car is in the driveway of the house I've been standing in front of. The man is out leaning over the top of the car, he’s tall and still just staring. I approach him and he is stiff as a board.

When I look back to the object it is again half again closer to us. I feel the object as it goes on with the colors and shape changes. It is unbelievably beautiful.

It beckons, calls to my head with something I understand. It wanted to take me on a journey, but now? I look at the man and he is paralyzed stiff. I wonder at his condition and am half turned to him and the object.

Pointing I yell out, "do you see that?"

He says nothing; nothing. He is glazed over, staring. I reach out and take his head in my hands and point his head right at the object and he just about falls over going relaxed on me!

Then he just looks right at me and says in a dead pan voice, "yeah, I see it. I've always seen it."

At that moment I realize he has been literally scared stiff or completely terrified and now as I look back from the reflections of brilliance in his eyes, the object/entity is in the trees next door and I now realize it is really big there.

It is beyond description now; changing into a ring there in the trees above us. I get an overwhelming "communication" that says we are going now and they can’t stop for me with the other guy there.

I yelled out to him, "they’re going," and grabbed his arm, running up under this object that has now become a burning silver ring above us. The ring is hissing now.

The only sound it’s made is this hissing right now. I feel it more than hear it. It is now a brilliant, deep orange ring above the trees. The center has become the deepest violet/black with red shocks streaming from top to bottom as the ring is standing on end in the trees not laying down flat. It is alive I feel.

I’m not certain what it is, but it seems to be a life of some kind and now it is going. It is gone and appears to be gone, over the horizon while still there in the trees for some odd reason.

The man says, "how far do you think it is?" and I say a long way. And then there is a clap, a boom and it is good and really gone.

The man looked at me and just says, "do you think we should report this?"

I tried to report it, but that didn’t go so well, so I just said to hell with it. I tried to report it to Davenport at the UFO Reporting Center, but that didn’t go well.

It was too complex to get over to him, I guess; at least in the format they used then. I haven’t reported since trying then.

UFOs: Why Not?
UFO Depiction
Published: 4:39 PM 4/5/2013

By John Pierre

I'll be first to admit that I look upon stories of little green men and abductions by alien creatures with a jaundiced eye, but not the very real possibility of spacecrafts doing a fly by and having a look at our planet.

After all, it was only a couple hundred years ago we were limited to horses and buggies for travel and were totally unaware that humans would one day fly. And look at us now.

Here we are, visiting Mars which, in miles, is about 30 million miles away at the minimum and 300 million miles at maximum (the distance varies because of varying orbits) with an unmanned vehicle as we poke around space for information.

Are we so conceited as to think that we are the only occupied sphere in this unending bajillions of heavenly bodies we refer to as space?

Do we really think that our horse and buggy attempts at space travel are anything other than baby steps? Do we really think that we have the only intelligent creatures in our infinitesimal galaxy?

It kinda makes me think of a flea floating down the mighty Columbia river on a fallen Autumn leaf with an erect twig as a sail hollering "Raise the drawbridge!"

It seems inescapably obvious to me that our feeble efforts in space travel must be multi-millions of years more developed by other intelligent beings.

But, you ask... "How can a human survive the great distances between possible inhabitable planets? And who decides what it takes to be ‘inhabitable?’”

Do all beings have a requirement for oxygen and water? Who is to say that our understanding of time is anything other than another Mayan-like guess at when the Earth will end?

Isn't it obvious that there is no end to space? Isn't that why they call it "space?"

Do we suppose there is a brick wall out there somewhere that denotes the edge of space? In all of that foreverness, doesn't it make sense to all but the thickets of human thinking that an unending supply of intelligent beings, far superior to us, have more advanced but possibly similar curiosities to ours?

UFOs? We've created them... why not creations by other "civilizations?" Forget Mars (other than what we can learn from it)... it's just our next door neighbor.

In our small earth neighborhood, we might wish to be more than the guy peeking over the backyard fence with only his eyes and nose showing in the one-time popular TV show Tool Time.

It appears to me that we humans have a great deal to learn about a great deal.

UFO Sighting in Daleville, Alabama, 'Incredible'
UFO Depiction
Published: 4:50 PM 4/5/2013

Daleville, Alabama - 03-30-13

On the night in question a friend and I decided to go see a movie at the local drive-in in the Wicksburg area, we arrived at 7:30 pm.

We parked facing south-southeast to view the movie. At approximately 9:05 - 9:10 pm my friend that was seated in the passenger seat of my truck had leaned forward intently watching the movie when she said; "What the heck is that?"

I leaned forward to see. I saw what could've been mistaken as reflection of lights on the windshield moving left to right; in other words east to west in a straight line at 45 degrees off the horizon moving fast.

I saw a semi-circle of faintly lit square windows facing me, going around the object the windows were vertically arranged and horizontal to the ground like movie film wrapped around a cylinder, so I couldn't see the windows on the other side.

The reason I'm describing the windows so intently is because that was all I could see of the actual craft, the only reason I knew it was solid is that it blocked out the stars within the circle of windows as it passed, it matched the dark sky perfectly with no reflection, none.

I then looked for heat signature as the stars reappeared there were none. When I saw this I knew it was way different than anything I'd ever seen, so I got out of my truck as fast as I could to watch and listen for noise. Not a sound.

Nothing moves that fast without making some noise. I watched this craft fly out of sight following the faint line of windows heading west toward Enterprise. I noticed during this encounter that nobody else had seen this, they were all still in their cars watching the movie, at least 200 people, incredible.

It was impossible to judge altitude of the craft, my best guess was maybe 500 - 5,000ft. The size matched a baseball in your outstretched hand at its closest to us. The shape, again best guess, was of the disk type with the ribbon of windows at its edge.

Now a little about myself. I've been an aviation enthusiast since I was a little boy, studied them, most all of them, built over 200 models when I was a boy, studied to be an A&P mechanic and worked as a civilian contractor for the military for 25 years.

I've seen almost everything that flies civilian and military up close and personal. I can pick out by silhouette alone 99% of everything man-made that flies.

My friend that was with me has been an A&P mechanic for 20 years and has lived in this area her entire life and with Ft. Rucker close by can tell you by sound alone, which helicopter is flying by.

I'm 47 years old and my friend is 50 years old, aviation has been our lives.

What we saw that night was beyond anything both of us could comprehend or understand. The aircraft, or whatever it was, seemed to be pulled through the air, not pushed like it would be with engines of any known type.

The only word either one of us could come up with was "Incredible." There is nothing man-made, that I know of, that can do what I saw done that night. We do not have that kind of technology. "Incredible."

1989 Brecon Beacons UFO Sighting Report
Overhead map of sighting location
1989 Brecon Beacons UFO Sighting Report

By Dave Hodrien

Sighting Details

Back in November 1989, my girlfriend Katie Francis, and her great aunt Janice had a stunning close encounter with a UFO while crossing the Brecon Beacons.

It is something that even after all these years they remember quite vividly.

After interviewing them both about the incident, I can now reveal to you what occurred.

At the time of the sighting, Katie was eleven years old and her brother Tim was five. They had been on holiday visiting Janice at Leamington Spa. She was driving them home to Neath in South West Wales. Their journey took them across the Brecon Beacons moor.

Photograph from reservoir showing area where sighting took place It was early evening and quite dark in the sky, but the moorland was still partially visible. The weather was clear and there was very little cloud.

The road was deserted and there were no other cars on it. Katie was sitting on the back seat next to her brother and staring out of the back window of the car.

She noticed in the sky an object with a row of coloured lights along it. The object was quite far away and high up. There were too many lights along it to be a normal aircraft.

They were flashing and changing colours, mostly white and red, but some other colours too.

The object was moving slowly across the sky. Katie alerted her great aunt to the object, and she also glanced back at it. The object seemed to keep changing position in the sky. It was there one minute, gone the next, and it kept reappearing in different places in relation to the moving car.

How the object appeared at a distance Janice was trying to scare Katie and Tim about the object, saying it was going to come and get them.

Suddenly, the object appeared much closer to the car and much lower in the sky, Katie estimates under 100 foot up.

Both Katie and Janice could now clearly see that the lights were in a curved line as if along the edge of a large disc shaped object, however, the main body of the object could not be seen.

Katie estimates that it was at least twice as big as a house. It was behind and to the right of the car hovering in the sky. At this point Janice decided to stop to get a photograph of the object as she was very interested in what it could be.

She pulled up at the side of the road and got out. She went round to the back of the car and opened the boot to get her camera.

The object appeared to now be stationary and it was completely silent.

How the object appeared to Katie when up close Katie started to panic at this point and was screaming at Janice to get back in the car. Janice was also a little unnerved by the object, but mostly fascinated by it.

She got the camera out but couldn’t work out how to use the night setting on it.

Because of this, and the fact that Katie was very frightened, she decided to get back in the car and continue driving. After this, neither witness looked back to see if the object was still following them so it was not seen again.

Janice also informed me of something else unusual which occurred. Shortly after they continued on their journey, there was suddenly a huge glow of bluish-white light that lit up the hills in front of the car.

The glow lasted for up to ten seconds before dying away.

Janice felt it was linked to the object which they had seen but because Katie was frightened she did not tell her about it.

A Related Sighting?

In June 2008, Dr Simon Griffey saw mysterious lights over the Brecon Beacons. His reported sighting has numerous similarities with what Katie and Janice witnessed. Below is the article that appeared in the newspaper on 27th June 08 including a photograph:

The Green Green Men Of Home

A baffled university don who spotted a UFO over the Brecon Beacons last night said: “There is no logical explanation.” Dr Simon Griffey saw lights loom over a mountain village – before they disappeared. His close encounter is the third reported in the space of just five days, following sightings by the Army and police.

Simon, a doctor of psychology at Cardiff University, said: “I’ve had loads of theories proposed by friends and neighbours but none of them add up.” Dr Griffey, 50, and his son Jack, 23, were driving near Llangynidr Mountain in the Brecon Beacons, Powys, when they spotted lights over Talybont-on-Usk.

He said: “There was no noise whatsoever, it was a bit eerie. I’ve driven over this mountain for 17 years and have never seen anything like it. There were seven lights and having read the description from the soldiers in Shropshire, there are some similarities.

They were the same sort of colour and the same spherical shape that they reported. I know I wasn’t seeing things because Jack saw exactly the same as I did – and two other cars pulled over to look.”

Sceptics have suggested the sightings could be huge man-made lanterns floating into the sky. But the boffin, of Llangynidr, said: “It was too big. It was way above the horizon and stayed there for 15 minutes.

It was a bit smaller than a full moon – quite big and high up.” Jack recorded the phenomenon on his mobile phone – but when they examined the pictures later, they found only three of the seven lights showed up.

UFO Lights To this day, both witnesses are convinced that the object they saw was definitely not a conventional aircraft or helicopter of any kind.

The arrangement and number of lights on the object, and the way that they were changing colours seem to suggest something very unusual.

Janice and Katie both mentioned independently that the object was very large and disc-shaped even though the main body of it could not be made out.

Also the object was completely silent even when it approached, and it seemed to be able to move or hover still in the air at will.

The area of the Brecon Beacons is used for military training and often jets are flown over it. Could the object have been a secret advanced aircraft of some kind?

This is a possibility, but if this were the case then why did it appear to be following the witness’s car as if interested in it? Surely the pilots would have wanted to keep such a craft away from the eyes of the public?

The glowing light that lit up the hillside shortly after the sighting of the UFO is also very interesting. The only natural thing which could possibly account for such a sight would be sheet lightning.

However, Janice said that it stayed visible far too long for it to have been this.

Also the weather was clear and it only occured once so it seems very unlikely that this would have been the cause.

In all the years since the years since the incident, Janice has never seen anything else like it, even though she has driven over the Brecon Beacons many times.

Thanks to Craig at www.bufog.com for sending along the article.
