UFO Files: Midlands Couple Tracked by UFO on 40 Mile Journey
A Photoshop diagram of UFOs sighted in Derbyshire/Staffordshire Photo: The National Archives
Published: 1:12 PM 6/21/2013

By Jasper Copping

A couple driving from Matlock to Stoke-on-Trent reported being tracked along much of their journey by a “shape-changing” UFO craft - or a series of them.

A man and his partner were travelling along the A50 when they spotted the object about 15 minutes into their journey. The man noticed a “very bright light in the sky” which he said moved too slowly to be an aeroplane and at very low altitudes.

He said it had a small blinking light beneath it and flew over Carsington water at a height of around 100ft, before vanishing.

The incident happened on November 1, 2009 and was later reported to the Ministry of Defence’s UFO Desk. In his account - which has just been released by the National Archives, the man told officials that at this stage of his experience he "felt slightly unnerved.”

The couple drove on, but when they reached a roundabout in Uttoxeter with a McDonald’s restaurant on it, they spotted a “very large red light,” around two miles away, low in the sky near the town’s racecourse.

The man’s partner, who he said was more skeptical on the subject of UFO’s than him, declined his request to follow the object and they headed towards their destination.

But as they approached Stoke on the A50, near the city’s Britannia football stadium, they again saw the suspicious lights - which were now “very bright white.”

By now, the man said his partner was “spooked” too.

When they saw the object again, near another roundabout, they reported “a white light with two smaller white lights on either side of it. As though on stalks or like spotlights.”

They continued to watch it as they drove along the A34, when it changed colour, from white to emerald green. The two “sidelights” disappeared.

Once the couple had got home, the man went out in the car again to look for the object, but without success. He reported the incident to police, who he says told him the force helicopter had not been in the area at the time.

Contacting Aliens Spells Doom for Humans?
UFO Depiction
Published: 1:06 PM 6/21/2013

Some scientists warn of potentially dangerous consequences if humans try to contact alien cultures, but others are undaunted.

For decades, scientific communities across the planet have been deeply engaged in SETI – the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence — by scanning “space noise” for viable signals that would indicate we are not alone as advanced beings in the cosmos.

With this week's launch of The Lone Signal project, the tables are turned, and earthlings are now sending messages out into the universe. Known as METI, or messaging to extra-terrestrial intelligence, Lone Signal is crowd-sourcing messages to beam out to the relatively nearby Gliese 526 solar system.

Although scientists are part of Lone Signal, others have concerns about the project.

Noted science fiction writer and astrophysicist David Brin has expressed grave misgivings in a blog post that says the planet has not come to an agreement or created a protocol on what should be ported out to the great beyond.

Brin says most species invest a lot in protecting themselves from exposure to others to avoid being colonized, enslaved or even driven to extinction due to the unforeseen consequences of contact.

Sending messages with no cohesive agreement on content comes down to "hubris," he says, and is foolhardy.

Physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking has said that aliens almost definitely exist, but we shouldn't try to get in touch. He says that we have yet to evolve enough to handle an interaction with another sentient, but likely more advanced species.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," Hawking told the BBC in 2010.

He said aliens may just mine Earth for resources and move on, leaving humanity in a tough spot.

The Daily Galaxy blog theorized this month that trying to contact extraterrestrial life could be so dangerous it could even "extinguish" our species. It suggested that intelligent species may intentionally mask their signals so other forms of life in the universe won’t be able to find them.

A cautionary tale for humans indeed.

Man/Woman Spot UFOs over New Hampshire: Make Drawing
UFO Drawing
Published: 12:50 PM 6/22/2013

Concord, New Hampshire - 06-20-13

On Thursday June 20, 2013 approx 9:45 -10 pm in Canterbury N.H. we were outside watching fireflies on the path we have leading to our chicken coop.

My boyfriend Damon and I noticed in the sky what we thought to be planes. I grew concerned when I realised how closely they were flying from one another.

About 100 feet from where we stood the objects were coming from the direction of Shaker Village. There were 3 red bright lights round in shape.

There were 2 red lights that were clearly separate objects following closely to a much larger object. It flew closer to us; approximately 50 feet above us rather quickly.

We were able to get a good look of the flying objects threw an opening in the trees. I saw a triangular shaped flying object with a haze around it.

The front object was very large in size with red lights, the 2 separate objects that were following it looked like red balls of light moving in their own paths.

The 2 red lights were flying behind it never beside it. The 3 objects hovered slowly over the tree tops towards the north and over our pond in the back yard.

We could not see them after they flew over the pond because of the many trees. Unfortunately my camera did not pick up what we saw, it actually turned off.

I fumbled around trying to turn it back on in the mean time keeping my eyes on the objects. I am disappointed I was unable to capture vital proof.

I would like to find out if anyone else in the surrounding areas saw what we saw.

My boyfriend did call the Canterbury police department and The National UFO Reporting Center.

The center said they had a similar sighting called in from Connecticut that same night.

'It was a Big Flying Saucer'
UFO Depiction
Published: 3:54 PM 6/21/2013

By Matt Scrafton

Altrincham child's UFO spotting among reports released by Ministry of Defence.

A ‘big, stationary flying saucer’ spotted on the M56 in Altrincham features in more than 4,400 files of UFO sightings released today.

The 25 files released by the National Archives also include a plea from a young child, also from Altrincham, for answers on whether ‘living things’ exist outside Earth.

The 10th and final batch of the files contain a wide range of documents, drawings, letters and photos covering the final two years of the Ministry of Defence’s UFO desk before its closure in 2009.

On December 9, 2007, the MoD received a report of a sighting of an extra-terrestrial object from a woman who was driving on the M56 towards Warrington.

The report read: "At first sight, the object looked like a big, stationary, flying saucer. Then as the car drove past it from another angle, it looked like two perfectly formed triangles.

“They were very symmetrical. They both had what looked like halogen lights on them, which were white lights with a tinge of red and green in them and were very bright.

“The lights were shimmering."

The woman also remarked that the objects were ‘definitely not planes’, while also adding that she informed the police of her sighting but they had little to say.

The MoD replied saying there had been no other sightings reported that day, and they were satisfied UK airspace had not been breached by unauthorised aircraft.

A letter was also sent to the MoD in January 2009 from a child from Altrincham along with a picture of a flying saucer with an alien waving.

The child wrote that his or her father had seen ‘little air crafts’ in the sky.

The letter read: "To Mr/Mrs. Please tell me if living things live outside our planet.

"I would like to now because me and my father have seen little air crafted in the sky. And my father have seen two little light dancing around each other.

"Please send me a letter telling me the answer."

The MoD sent back a letter to the child along with ‘RAF goodies’, saying it was an interesting question and they remain open-minded on the subject.

They also added that they weren’t aware of any evidence that proves life exists in outer space.

1977 - Large Triangle Spotted over Eureka Springs, Arkansas
UFO Depiction
Published: 2:19 AM 6/17/2013

Eureka Springs, Arkansas - 12-15-77

While driving home, between Berryville and Eureka Springs, Arkansas, at around 9:30 in the evening on DEC. 15, 1977, I saw a very large wedge or triangular shaped UFO.

It was flying fairly low in the sky, not far above the treetops, and was nearby, so I could see it well.

It was moving quite slowly. The UFO had four white-to-amber spotlights, arranged in a square. There were also several red blinking lights.

There were two rows of windows, with a pale greenish light emanating from them. I heard absolutely no sound coming from it.

I watched it for several minutes, spellbound.

Then this huge thing sort of folded up on itself (sort of like origami) very quickly. The compacted version of itself then zoomed north, toward the state line.

I wrote down as many details as I could remember when I got home. The next morning I went to work at the Eureka Springs Times-Echo and told the owner, Bob Wheeler, what I had seen.

At first he was incredulous, but soon the paper's phones were ringing with reports from police, the sheriff's office, and the radio station.

I heard that Ira and Frances Whitney had seeen it. I walked from the newspaper office down to their Gem Store, where I interviewed them. I also interviewed a local man named Tex Belt who had seen the UFO.

I called a Berryville police officer who had watched the UFO for quite a while; unfortunately, our weekly paper was pasted up and ready to go to print, so Bob made the decision to insert a small article rather than run a front page story.

I gave UFOs little thought prior to actually seeing this one. I saw this before popular movies such as Star Wars; Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T. were released.

Though some of the people I interviewed seemed to be afraid, my experience was one of awe and wonder. In fact, I stayed up for hours that night watching the sky, hoping the UFO would come back.
