For more than 60 years, innumerable well-documented reports have been made of sightings, landings and crashes of unidentified flying craft, commonly referred to as unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
They undoubtedly are under intelligent control and travel at speeds and with aeronautical capabilities far exceeding those of today’s known military and commercial aircraft. Testimony of reliable witnesses, including astronauts, generals, admirals, law enforcement officials, airline pilots, scientists and many other highly credentialed officials attests to the physical reality and uniqueness of these craft.
Additionally, there is evidence some craft have been retrieved by military personnel of the United States and other countries. Furthermore, research has verified that several witnesses have viewed and handled the bodies of “visitors” that can only be described as extraterrestrial in nature.
In 1999, an outstanding document titled “UFOs and Defence: What Must We Be Prepared For?” was published by an independent group of former “auditors” of the French Institute for National Defence and experts from several other scientific fields.
Known as the COMETA report, the study included the examination of some 500 international UFO sightings, including radar/visual cases and previously undisclosed reports of commercial and military pilots.
It also drew on data from official sources, government authorities and air forces of other countries. The report further explored the political and religious implications of UFOs, as well as the problem of disinformation, ridicule and manipulation efforts by government agencies and other vested interests.
In its conclusion, the report addressed the issue of extraterrestrial visitation: “A single hypothesis sufficiently takes into account the facts and, for the most part, only calls for present day science. It is the hypothesis of extraterrestrial visitors. Advanced in 1947 by certain U.S. military personnel, today it is popular worldwide.
It is discredited by a certain elite, but is plausible. Scientists (astronomers, physicists, engineers, futurologists etc.) have elaborated on it enough for it to be received as a hypothesis — by their peers.”
When journalist Leslie Kean wrote the first account of the COMETA report in the Boston Globe on May 21, 2000, she thought the article “would have to generate some kind of news buzz, and that other journalists would eagerly jump in to pick up where I had left off. ... Amazingly nothing happened.
It was the beginning of a rude awakening, a rite of passage into the perplexing reality that UFOs cannot be acknowledged at all, even as simply the unidentified flying objects that they are. It was as if everyone was pretending that they didn’t exist.”
Given the life-changing potential and consequences of the UFO/ET problem, and because it has primarily been subject to sensational tabloid journalism, it is essential that local, national and international journalists seriously perform the duties and responsibilities required by the mission and ethics of their indispensable profession.
For the past 60-plus years, the mainstream media have either ignored or ridiculed what might be the biggest story of human history.
During this period, every top-level news organization in the United States has been approached countless times by citizens and researchers with events, information and evidence relating to the UFO phenomenon. With few exceptions, the major news organizations have defaulted on this issue, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN news television.
On many occasions, UFO events have been reported by local media and then transmitted to narrow-minded national editors who have failed to do follow-up stories.
Examples of the negligence are plentiful. One glaring case was the April 1997 UFO sighting witnessed by thousands of people in the Phoenix area.
This massive UFO was one of the most spectacular sightings in U.S. history, but mainstream journalists wanted nothing to do with it and might have ignored it completely if not for the very candid, detailed interview of Phoenix Councilwoman Frances Barwood by USA Today’s Richard Price, who wrote an excellent piece about the event.
Historically, most major media organizations have been of the opinion UFOs are not real and often treated anyone who believes they are to be intellectually stunted and deserving of dismissal and ridicule. Most journalists, like many academics, have seriously failed in their professional obligation to treat the issue fairly and objectively. Such behavior is known by some UFO investigators as “The Journalism UFO Syndrome.”
Philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer said of the search for truth: “All truth passes through three stages. First it is ridiculed; second, it is violently opposed; and third, it is accepted as self-evident.” If sound journalism practices are applied to the UFO/ET issue, we might be able to partially curtail stages one and two.

1958 - Close Encounter in the "Devil's Canyon" of Hunter, New York
Published: 1:14 PM 8/15/2011
October, 1958 - Hunter, New York
It was just prior to deer season, my hunting buddies went to town to hang out in Hunter, New York, and let me out at my request at a point between Blackhead and Roundtop mountains so I could hunt bobcat.
Where they let me out I marked the side of the road with a pile of stones and proceeded into the woods heading into an area called Devil's Canyon.
I only went approximately 100 yards toward the canyon when I came to a clearing.
When I was at the edge of the clearing I saw a large object in the center. I asked myself why would anybody put a building in an isolated place like this?
I crouched down at the edge of the clearing and checked out this (building). Upon further examination I evaulated what I saw.
What I saw was a landed flying saucer, the bottom of which was mostly flat, only curving up toward the outer edges. It was about 8 feet over the ground, I could only observe 2 landing legs, the third one had to be on the other side.
I then saw 2 very tall what appeared to be almost stick figures who were communicating with each other. I could not hear what they were saying nor did I see any facial details. They were at the far end of the craft.
This craft had a band of dull lights about 12" high and each color segment was about 24" wide. The colors blended into each other; violet, orange, blue, green and all colors that may come out of a prism.
There was a low but audible hum coming from the ship.
The top half of the craft had a small dome about 2' high X 3' wide. What struck me as odd was that it was not centered on top, but toward one end.
The entire craft was about 12' top to bottom. I spent about 15 to 20 minutes taking all this in.
I then heard a click, and saw what was a walkway coming out of the center of the ship. It stopped and a third figure came down to the ground and walked over to the other 2 figures.
The 3 communicated and the one that come down pointed right at me where I was hiding at the edge of the clearing.
One stood there, one went left, and one went right. They were in the process of surrounding me.
I decided it was time to go.
I had an 8mm Mauser with me, put it on 1/2 safe and backed up the way I came in. I hid in the culvert in the side of the road.
Two Drone-like Objects Chase Star-like Object over Gresham, Oregon
Published: 2:41 PM 8/11/2011
Gresham, Oregon - 08-04-11
Duration: 2 - 5 min
Two drone like objects chasing or observing a star-like craft or object that was faster and more silent than any other craft or object.
Please read carefully; I was in dis belief, but I would never lie about something like this.
It was just after sundown, and my brother and I were smoking by the pool house in our backyard where we have a very clear and brief view of the sky from.
Just for plot and setting of this sighting, I live right next to the only airport in Portland and I know planes and military and helicopters, jets etc.
I noticed my stepfather staring in the sky and I had a very weird feeling in my gut that just hit me when I saw him.
I asked him what he was doing and he stated that he heard on the radio that a man has spotted several strange lights and activity going on, and that he saw something strange a night before and that he has a weird feeling which was similar to mine.
First we saw a strange and solid, small but fast object with no light and it circled the region of the sky and disappeared.
Two more objects just like the first object came from the same direction and in my own perspective they (floated) but flew the same direction and vanished as well.
As my stepfather and brother were trying to make out what they were, they decided they were drone-like objects.
I spotted a flash in the corner of my left eye and a star-like object with a bright, non-blinking light came from the direction the (drones) were last seen, and the star object was moving rapidly in a curving direction going south and cleared the sky from where it was spotted to the southside in a matter of seconds, and then and I pointed it out to my stepfather saying; "Hey, what is that? Look, it is moving so fast, what is it?"
The light made the object look like a star, but no star can move so fast and out of place. It was so far but so close that we should have heard a sound like planes make or jets, but it was dead silent.
A flash of light came from the star-like object and it vanished in the opposite direction from the (drones).
As we were baffled at what we just saw and somewhat speechless, the (drone) objects came back from the direction they left and were moving not as fast but rapidly towards the direction of the star-like object, but the star was nowhere to be seen again.
I waited for 30 minutess to try and see something again, but no more activity came besides the normal of living next to the airport.
I believe in UFOs and aliens or beings or what have you, but I would never think of seeing something as strange as I saw and having the feeling that my stepfather and I felt when it happened.
I watch a lot of history and TV and am a huge fan of Ancient Aliens and shows of that sort, but really just the theory of existence in our galaxy, but I think the hoaxes and fake reports are stupid because I thought I would never live to see something unusual but I have, and I know for a fact that it was real and was getting away from whatever was chasing it and succeeded.
It was the fastest thing I have ever seen in the sky, and I know planes and military jets, planes etc.
The star object was not from this world, and I have a strange feeling something is happening or is going to happen soon. I don’t know what or when, but I hope someone listens to me because there is too much activity going on in my city.
I have lived in the same city for twenty two years and have never seen anything like what I saw and I am trying to piece together what was going on or happened and what I saw, but I know 100% that it was a UFO sighting.
I may not have photo or video evidence, but I know what I saw was real and I would never lie about these things because it is very important to me.
The following report was submitted to the UFO Casebook.
I live in South Carolina in an area somewhat away from the city lights. My backyard has an excellent view of the night sky from my patio.
I'm normally out on the patio late at night watching the skies and admiring the scene. Last year, on several occasions, I saw lights in the sky that I could not easily explain.
I never bothered to report anything, because I felt if I were to ever see something I would prefer it be a structured object and not simply a light in the sky.
The first time I saw one of the lights, it was pretty far away and I only saw it for several seconds before it was gone. It was simply a small, very white light which contrasted against the sky more than a typical star.
It appeared for a few seconds and slowly faded from view. The altitude was pretty high because it looked similar to a star except for the color and how it faded.
I brushed it off as nothing or possibly a shooting star or debris. A few months later I saw the same type of object.
This one stood out due to the fact that it appeared to be much larger than the first and gave the impression that it was not on the fringes of our atmosphere but much closer. The sighting was slightly different in that the object had the same bright white color to it, but it appeared that it was pointed my direction, then slowly turned away from me.
It was almost like someone was pointing a flashlight at you from a distance and slowly turned away. Once it turned it dimmed quickly and I couldn't see it anymore.
I have to admit, I was kind of excited by this because I've never seen anything in the sky display the characteristics of this object. I was definitely curious but I still didn't feel it deserved a report.
Recently I saw another object which really made me wonder what it could have possibly been. It was late at night on a Saturday (not sure of the date), sometime between 1 and 2 in the morning.
I came outside to enjoy the coolness of the night air, since recently we've been experiencing triple digit temperatures. I walked to the edge of my patio and looked up.
Right when I looked up, I saw the same type of white ball of light but only for a second. It was almost similar to a camera flash but slower and larger, probably the size of a pea at arm’s length.
For the moment I saw it, it was the brightest thing in the sky. I kept watching the area that the light was in to see if I could see it again and ensure it wasn't a conventional aircraft.
As I was watching, approximately 5 seconds later, I saw the same flash of light, except this time it was much higher up and almost directly over the spot where the original light was.
I got the impression that the object moved upward at what must have been an extremely high rate of speed. If I had to estimate its original position I would say it was around 5000 feet, when I saw it again it had to be at least 20000 feet up.
I was intrigued but still not sure what I saw. Perhaps it was an aircraft that just happened to be in the vicinity above the first object. I kept watching to see if anything would happen. It wasn't any more than another 5 or 6 seconds when I saw the light again, but this time at an extreme altitude, it was almost the size of a distant star, but still just as white.
I never saw any movement in between the flashes; almost as if it went completely dark as it moved.
It was just one slow flash at a low altitude, the next much higher and the last one extremely high.
I can't say for sure what I saw, the flashes could have been coincidental and unrelated, but the intervals between the flashes were consistent and the fact that they were directly above one another led me to believe that this thing was moving upwards and out of the atmosphere.
I didn't see anything else that night, or since, but you best believe I will keep watching!
A UFO that was hovering outside the town of Kingman, Arizona for about 10 minutes total.
I first witnessed this UFO at about 8:45 PM. In the beginning there were 4 visible lights. My cousin and I were driving towards my house when we saw them.
Of course we had to detour and get closer to the UFO. As we drove closer, the lights multiplied until there were 10 visible lights.
They were hovering in an oval formation in a very methodical way.
Then after about 6 or 7 minutes, they started splitting, taking off one by one. As they split, one to the left then one to the right, they went from having one white light to having the one white light and 2 red lights on each side fairly far apart.
They eventually flew out of sight. Their white lights were about twice the size of a star, but about four times brighter.
Portugal UFO Sighting - Airline Captain Júlio Miguel Guerra
Published: 9:12 AM 9/14/2010
In the chapter he wrote for “UFOs,” Airline Captain Júlio Miguel Guerra relives his lengthy encounter with a highly active UFO while serving as a flight instructor for the Portuguese Air Force in 1982.
He writes: “At various times the object had been very close to me and I was able to verify that it was round with two halves shaped like two tight-fitting skullcaps. I carefully looked at the lower one, which seemed to be somewhere between red and brown with a hole or dark spot in the center.
"The center band looked like it had some kind of a grid, and possibly a few lights, but it was hard to tell since the sun was so bright and was reflected.”
The object circled his small airplane for 15 minutes while he was alone in the sky, in his DHC-1 Chipmunk. He made this drawing the day after the encounter and submitted it with his report to the Portuguese Air Force.
(Júlio Guerra, CNIFO Case Report)
Guerra states that the object “flew at a fantastic speed in a large elliptical orbit to the left, between 5,000 feet to the South and approximately 10,000 feet to the North, always from left to right, repeating this route over and over.
"I tried to keep it in sight.”
Two fellow Air Force officers, Carlos Garcês and António Gomes, flew to the location, and they too watched the object repeat its elliptical course, passing between the two planes on each return, for about 10 minutes. They were able to estimate the size, given its proximity to the two aircraft: about eight to 10 feet.
After landing, all three pilots filed detailed, independent written reports with the Air Force. General José Lemos Ferreira, the Portuguese Air Force Chief of Staff at the time, authorized the release of all the records to a team of scientists and experts, which conducted a lengthy scientific investigation.
The group estimated that the unidentified object was flying at over 300 MPH vertically and its velocity when it circled Guerra’s aircraft was about 1550 MPH.
Since leaving the Air Force in 1990 after 18 years of service, Júlio Guerra has been a Captain with Portugália Airlines (TAP), Portugal’s largest commercial airline. He has 17,000 hours of flight experience, and in 2009 he received an aeronautic science degree from the Lusofona University of Oporto. (Courtesy Júlio Guerra)
