Sheriff Recalls North Dakota UFO Encounter
Depiction of Sighting
Published: 9:41 AM 9/22/2009

Editor's Note: I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by one Lawrence Gessner, former Sheriff in Sheridan County, city of McClusky, North Dakota. He told me a remarkable story.

While actively serving as Sheriff on July 10, 2003, he saw an unknown diamond-shaped UFO. He was at home at the time of the incident. His wife also saw the object.

Mr. Gessner also told me that when the State Crime Bureau heard about his UFO sighting, he was told to not discuss it, as it would lower his credibility. He had busted some methamphetamine labs, and defense attornies would use his report of the UFO to discredit him at trial.

He followed their instructions until about three years ago, when an illness caused him to resign his Sheriff position. He was then free to go public with his story.

He also had served 14 years with the U.S. Air Force, with all of his work involving planes. In other words, he was an expert witness.

What you will see below are photo copies of the original police report he filed, titled, "Unidentified Flying Object Report." They are presented in two jpeg files. His real name is used here with his permission.

Take Me to Your Gizmos: Mod Bid for Alien Technology
Published: September 20, 2009

Jack Grimston

THE Ministry of Defence ordered an investigation of thousands of UFO sightings in the 1990s to examine whether alien spaceship technology could be exploited to build advanced engines for the RAF, according to a new official history.

The book, based on the ministry’s “X-files” of thousands of sightings, shows that an unnamed wing commander initiated the project in 1993 because he believed it was wrong to assume extra-terrestrial craft did not exist.

Nick Pope, who has written on UFOs and was a colleague of the officer at the MoD, confirmed the book’s account: “I remember him saying he believed there was evidence of an exotic propulsion system and the bottom line was that if they had it, we sure as hell wanted it.” Pope would not disclose the man’s name.

Official documents from the wing commander are quoted in the book, written by David Clarke, senior journalism lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

The officer wrote that while most of the phenomena would have rational explanations, “if the sightings are of devices not of this earth then their purpose needs to be established as a matter of priority”.

He added: “There has been no apparently hostile intent and other possibilities are 1) military reconnaissance; 2) scientific; and 3) tourism.”

Alien engines, if they existed, were apparently “stealthy” and “do not use conventional reaction propulsion systems”. The wing commander wanted to explore possibilities for “technology transfer”.

The new book, The UFO Files: The Inside Story of Real-Life Sightings, is published by the National Archives in Kew, west London, and is based largely on MoD files released there. It traces the story of UFO sightings in Britain from the first decade of the 20th century.

Through much of the past 100 years, thousands of sightings by people ranging from RAF pilots to police officers and children have been collated by the MoD who believed they could yield evidence of advanced foreign aircraft of which Britain had no knowledge.

Some remain hard to explain, such as foo fighters, the name given to balls of fire that seemed to pursue RAF bombers in the second world war.

It was only in the 1990s, partly at the wing commander’s prompting, that the MoD finally did a systematic analysis of UFO sightings, called Project Condign.

Most were explained by everyday objects, such as airships, clouds or even chinese lanterns, being mistakenly identified as alien craft, or by unusual atmospheric phenomena. No evidence of aliens was found.

A retired senior official at the defence intelligence staff, where the wing commander was employed, said: “Some people had bees under their bonnet ... whenever UFOs were raised at the weekly directorate meetings it was in a fairly light-hearted and dismissive way.”

Clarke’s book shows sightings are still frequent. In 2007 the MoD opened a file on an incident over the sea near Guernsey in which pilots of two planes saw a “sparkling yellow object shaped like a long, thin cigar”.

Last year the MoD’s directorate of air staff logged 285 UFO sightings. The ministry runs a UFO hotline at RAF High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire which the public can telephone with details of sightings. The number is 01494 496 254.

Strange Light over Long Island Sound
Published: 4:36 AM 9/24/2009

written by Chris Holly

I had a very odd sighting recently after driving a friend home. It happened along the coast of the North Shore of Long Island in New York.

I was driving along the dark side roads of Centerport, which is a small town along the coast of Long Island. The area is full of hills that overlook the Long Island Sound, which faces Connecticut. Twisting small streets full of family homes dot the hills. Most of the houses have some type of view of the beautiful coast over looking the Sound.

The area is very much like any typical New England small town. The streets along the coast holding the houses of those who live there are dark and sparsely lit. Clear nights are glorious as the dark sky over looking the water makes all the stars and air traffic clearly visible.

The lack of streetlights up in the hilly areas seems to exaggerate the brightness of the stars, moon, planets and airplanes making them all easily recognizable. This night was one of those clear bright nights with that dark still backdrop of sky and water.

I was enjoying our drive, as the night was crystal clear and the night sky full and beautiful. I was taking my time slowly climbing the hills on the way to my friend's house taking every opportunity I could to glimpse a view of the water and the shore line of Connecticut.

We arrived at my friend’s house. I pulled into the driveway and drove as far back towards the back of her house as possible. We had been out to the farm stands earlier that day. My friend had bought a bunch of pumpkins and mums, all which were packed in the back of my vehicle. As we sorted through our days shopping we took turns carrying her items across her dark yard to her deck.

It was very dark, as she had not yet gone inside of her house to turn on the outside lights. Not being familiar with her yard enough to negotiate it in the dark, I did what I usually do in similar scenarios and took a gigantic fall. Arms full of pumpkins and one large yellow mum plant, I managed to launch myself off the end of her deck to slide across her cement walkway never letting go of the items in my arms to find myself stopped from this humiliation by a hedge of azaleas lining the walkway.

At first my friend came running yelling the words of concern –“Are you OK?” as she ran towards me. She had been about 50 feet behind me and witnessed my tumble in full. When she reached my side we checked to see if anything was broken.

I knew at once I was whole and only suffering from some cuts and bruises. My friend, now laughing at me with great gusto, sat down next to me on the ground as she uncovered me from pumpkin and mum pieces. She sort of rolled me off of her hedge and we both laid on the lawn laughing.

I told her I was going to have to spend the night on the lawn, as I did not think I could get up. She decided to go get me a chair to sit on so she could check on the cuts and road rash along my knees and legs. As my friend made her way to unlock her house, turn on the outside lights and find a chair for me, I waited stretched out on her back lawn overlooking the Long Island sound while looking up at the clear night sky.

I saw the light immediately. I was drawn to it right away, as it was much bigger than all the other lights in the sky. At first I thought it was a plane, which would explain it being lower and much bigger then the stars. It took only a few seconds for me to realize it was not moving and that it was one color, not the lights of typical aircraft.

I could not believe that I was seeing this now at this time. As with many strange events that have occurred during my lifetime - they never happen when I am ready, and seem to always come about when they are the last thing I am thinking about!

Whatever this light was it did not seem to belong in the sky with the other objects. It was pure white and very bright. It was very long and wide. I would judge it to be about the size of a super market hanging in the sky.

It was about half way between Long Island and Connecticut over the Long Island Sound. It was diamond shaped and looked very much like a huge diamond ring hanging in the sky. It did not sparkle it was just clear white and extremely bright. It was beautiful and it did not belong there.

By the time my friend returned I had gotten myself up off the ground, however, I did not take my eyes off the large diamond light hovering over the water. My friend walked over to me and casually said- “ What are you looking at?”

I placed my hands on her shoulders and turned her towards the light. She stood there and looked at it and slowly asked, “What the hell is that?” We just stood there maybe 15 seconds staring at it when - SNAP - just that fast, it was gone. It was there one second and gone the next. I do not know if it turned off its light, or took off or just disappeared. All I can tell you is that it was there and then it was not.

We looked at each other and both felt uneasy and without a word spoken ran into her house and locked the doors and turned on all the lights. My friend called all her surrounding neighbors and told them what we had seen and asked them to keep a look out to see if it returned. She called the local police and asked if anyone else had seen anything but was told no others had called anything in.

I have no idea what we saw, but I know it was huge, bright, perfectly diamond shaped, and silent. It also hovered without any movement and then vanished right before our eyes.

I have seen other craft in my lifetime, but I have never seen anything like this light before. My friend remarked that it was hovering close to the large electric plant that is located right on the coast a few miles down the coastline built right on the shore.

I have no idea what that light was. I do know I have never seen anything like it before and was rather awe struck by its size and ability to leave in the way that it did. We watched out of the windows for a very long time, however, it did not return.

October has always been a time when the area where I live has had sightings of crafts and events of the unknown. I think this year will not be any different, and this sighting a start of another fall season where we all should pay attention to the sky and be alert to our surroundings.

These things seem to be there so often in so many areas of the world that I think it will be more common place for all of us to see things we can only list as unknown. The only thing needed is for us to all start being alert to what belongs and what does not and to pay attention to that which is different.

It surely will be our road to understanding the truth of what really goes on around us. Be careful where your walking during your own pumpkin runs and always keep looking up!

Man Breaks Silence over UFO Sighting
Published: 6:23 PM 9/18/2009

A CROOK man has recalled his close encounter of a third kind from more than 15 years ago. After reading about mysterious lights spotted over West Auckland in last week’s Mercury, Stephen Hope from Low Mown Meadows remembered his own UFO experience.

He said: “It was in the early to mid 90s and there were some very odd lights above Crook. It was a cloudy night but the lights were beneath the cloud, probably about 150 feet up.

“There were six lights and they were moving in a formation right above the Low Mown Meadows estate. “They were there for about an hour and a half and talking to people afterwards a good two-dozen people saw them.

“The way they were moving was just very peculiar and I have never heard a satisfactory explanation for it. They looked they were hassling something in the sky, you know like when you see a pack of dogs around a wounded animal.

“They were darting around in a sort of Star of David shape, zipping form point to point. “Then when they left they formed in a dart shape, like the paper planes you used to make at school, and disappeared.

“At the time the police said it was the reflection from a laser light at the MetroCentre but I think that’s just waffle.

“I don’t mind looking like a fool but these lights were not of this mortal coil.

“There was one moment of terror when it dawned on me that if they weren’t of this plane, their intelligence was clearly quantum leaps ahead of ours, if they meant us harm they could have destroyed us.”

If anybody else can remember the lights or has experienced other inexplicable phenomenon, contact the Mercury on 01388 768758, email duncanleatherdale@wearvalleymercury.co.uk or visit our office at 43 Hope Street, Crook.

Strange Light Seen over Buckingham
Published: September 20, 2009 02:43 AM

By: CHRISTOPHER RUVO, The Intelligencer

In his own words, Chris Swayze is not - not - "a UFO guy." But on Saturday night, he and his wife, Cynthia, saw something glowing above farm fields in Buckingham that appeared downright otherworldly.

"It was a UFO," said Swayze, 54. "No doubt about it. I've never seen anything like it before."

Swayze's Saturday night sighting was another in what a national organization that investigates UFO sightings says is an ongoing upsurge in reported sightings in the Bucks County area.

"People around here are seeing something time and again," said John Ventre, state director for the Mutual UFO Network, a national organization that looks into UFO activity.

Swayze and his wife were walking their three dogs through farm fields in the area of Upper Mountain Road and Forest Grove Road on Saturday evening.

About 8 p.m., they looked up and saw a bright light in the sky. The light itself was emitting a conical-shaped beam of light toward the ground, Swayze said.

"This thing was stunning. It was scary. My wife wanted to get right in the house," he said.

The light in the sky soon vanished without warning, leaving behind a glow that eventually faded, Swayze said.

"We kept waiting to see a helicopter or an airplane - something - but there was nothing," he said.

Swayze added, "We're not UFO people. We're normal people. But this is something we'll take to the grave." He did not get a picture of the light.

From July 2008 to July 2009, MUFON received about 350 reports of UFO sightings in Pennsylvania, a 260 percent increase over the same period the year before, said Ventre. About 40 percent of the 2008-09 reports have come from the Bucks County area, he said.

The local activity grabbed the attention of the Discovery Channel, which featured accounts of Bucks County sightings from 2008 on an episode of the show "UFOs over Earth."

"People could be seeing the next generation of military aircraft, but it doesn't appear that's what it is," Ventre said.

Mexico City 1992-93 - A Strange Darkness
Published: 1:51 PM 9/17/2009

Mexico City, Mexico - Dec 31 - Jan 1, 1993

The facts that I am about to recount took place on the night of December 31, 1992, to January 1, 1993, in Mexico City, at the coordinates 19°21'26.50"N - 99°11'00W. I now know this due to Google Earth.

This is where my grandfather's house used to stand - a huge two story concrete and brick art deco style house for modern standards that was built on the 1940's and the surrounding areas were corn fields for which reason was heavily fenced, and the windows were barred. At the time of the events we had been living with him for the past 13 years and the zone had been developed to a residential area.

I still remember this event as if it had been yesterday. I remember that day, one of my younger brothers made a remark about a program he watched on TV the 30th of December about the possibility of numerous UFO sightings around Mexico City the night of the 31st.

My mother and myself were quite amused and he did not seem to care about it, he just did not ponder the point too much. The fact is that the New Year's Eve party took place at my grandfather's house, the party ended around 1:30 AM and we went to bed at about 2:00 AM, but by 3:15 AM an incredibly loud and high pitched sound woke us up.

This sound resembled a static turbine hanging over the house, at least for me it was a disconcerting and frightening experience. The second thing that shocked me was the darkness. It was pitch dark, even outside the house.

That particular night one of my uncles, my father's brother, stayed overnight and that is why I stayed at the TV room and ceded my room to him. After waking up, the next thing I know I am scrambling for the light switch which I found with great effort due to the uncanny darkness, and I remember switching it on and immediately locking the two access doors to the room and putting the dead locks on both of them.

The next thing I recall is gathering enough courage to go to the window, which was quite large and faced eastward, and opening it and once again the darkness! Even on the darkest, moonless overcast or rainy nights, one could make out the trees and large rain forest palm trees that were behind the house but that night... nothing!

And the sound! It kept on going so loud! I remember looking upward and seeing nothing! No clouds, no stars, nothing at all! Just darkness! and the sound! I remember feeling truly frightened and concerned, sitting down on the couch and wondering if anybody else had woken up, why had not we gathered together, why weren't the dogs barking mad?

What was going on? And suddenly blackout, next thing I am waking up lying down perfectly flat on my back with the head perfectly placed on the pillow, and covered with an extended sheet and blanket exactly to the neck.

I just opened my eyes and wondered what had happened. The position on which I woke up was uncanny. Then when we were having breakfast. I asked my brother if he had heard anything, he told me that yes, he had heard the noise but we did not abound into the subject.

Afterwards I have not being able to forget anything and my father, uncle, and grandfather died in a two year period following this incident. My father from thyroid cancer one week later, my grandfather from a stroke, and about a year later my uncle from diabetes.

I still wonder if this happened or not, and if so why? And why us? What did really happen that night? Lately it has troubled me more and more so many years later, 16 to be exact.

Can you help me make something out of this, this has become increasingly important to me.

Thank you in advance,

(last update, 09-18-09)

California - Multi-Colored Object
09-18-09- My cat woke me up about 5 am, and I glanced out the window and saw a far-off multicolored star-like object darting around in the sky. I woke my wife up from a sound sleep, and told her I think I see a UFO and she witnessed it too.

This object was darting around at incredible speeds and making complete start and stops instantly. Also, it was pulsating in a beautiful multi-colored fashion. I was pretty blown away by the object since I’ve NEVER seen anything move like it did.

It was by far the most beautiful and mysterious event I’ve ever seen in the sky. After about 6-8 minutes the object faded from sight by either moving too far away or simply faded out. As far as I can tell it was 40 miles or so away to the northeast somewhere above eastern Santa Rosa, CA or northern Sonoma area. Source: www.mufon.com

Florida - Red, Glowing Object
09-21-09 - I was in my bedroom and my mother called me from outside on the balcony. She pointed out to sea and there was a red glowing orb. She said she had watched it for 5 minutes. Then as we were standing there watching it, another one blinked in to the right of it.

I couldn’t believe what I had just seen. It just appeared, so I ran and got my binoculars and looked at them to see if I could see any blinking lights of any kind, but they were solid red orbs. Then the one to the left blinked out and then a few minutes later, the other one did the same. Source: www.mufon.com

New York - Object, Somewhat Triangular
09-21-09 - the first person to notice the object was my uncle as he was leaving my aunt's house, which is located on the south shore of Long Island. The backyard faces west, the object was observed by me and 7 other people moving slowly from west to west by northwest. On occasion the object moved towards the east. The object was in the sky for more than two hours.

Unfortunately no media evidence was captured due to the fact the object was more than 10 miles away, at first it seemed to be parachute or a plastic bag, but once we found a pair of binoculars I and others saw that it was a flying object, hovering in place and moving on its own will.

Also noted was the fact that the object did not follow any type of pattern or destination. Once seen through the lenses, I saw that the object was somewhat triangular in frame but with very soft edges giving it a round structure, the center of the object was open, with the exception of three columns going through it. Source: www.mufon.com

Texas - Two Witness Strange Lights
09-21-09 - On Monday, September 21, 2009, at approximately 9:00 PM, I witnessed an unexplainable event in Kingwood, TX. I was driving south on Loop 494 between Royal Crossing Drive and Kingwood Drive, near the entrance to the Homewood Suites Hotel. The entire sky suddenly became brightly lit in a bluish color.

This lasted approximately 1 second. Another second passed and then the entire sky was lit again, but in the pattern of 2-3 large beams as if the light were coming from the horizon line. This was too large and too bright to have been any type of spotlight.

Approximately 5 minutes later I was driving north on Forest Cove drive and a bright blue object (the same shade the lit sky was) flew through the sky in a large arch. The light was traveling very fast. The light seemed to blink and then disappeared. I had a passenger in the front seat who also saw both events. Source: www.mufon.com
